They're pricey as hell, and their dozen or so designs seems to have dwindled to just a couple, but I adored one of these dice trays so much as a birthday gift I later bought myself a second. Just over a year, still in fantastic shape; I love the design with the little raised perimeter for...
Big ol' GURPS PDF Kickstarter went live about 45 minutes ago, already unlocked the first three Stretch Goals. Great way to hop into GURPS!

I was surprised no one had mentioned rpgnews.com yet, but carpocratian snuck it in there. Honestly I'd never heard of it until a few weeks ago when a friend asked me the same question. Googling around I found it, seems like it pulls enough info to fill in the cracks I might miss in my daily...
This thread has been a fascinating read for me, thanks for all the great posts! 3D printing still seems like it's juuust a toe over my line for tech adoption, but I'm looking forward to seeing where things are in just a few more years.
Could definitely help with terrain and whatnot, but my...
This is the World of Darkness doc.
I wasn't aware of "The Dreams...", but it looks good and I'll probably get the finished product (assuming there is one).
I was a backer of "D&D: The Doc" but not "The Great Kingdom" (probably because I'd also not heard of the latter until just now). I...
I played the Classic Beta during last BlizzCon... for about 20 minutes before thinking, "Oh, right, *that's* why they changed that, because it's annoying as hell." Has zero appeal to me.
Otoh, every other WoW player I know is super stoked, so different strokes and all.
To the question of whether GURPS is or is not a "story game," I feel like it's both (and synthesizes quite well with elements of Fate). The "Generic" in GURPS doesn't refer to setting/genre but play style. The default system, out of the box and analogous to most other multi-genre RPGs? Sure...
If it helps, the quick description of suppression fire in GURPS is: the shooter chooses two adjacent hexes (two yards) as the target and spends his entire turn emptying fire into that zone. Until the start of his next turn (when he can choose to continue suppression fire or something entirely...
Huh. I think Steve Allen would be amused at being called "pretentious" :) I've always found the phrase "theater of the mind" to be the clearest, most concise expression of what it's describing ("without minis, grid, or other physical props," really), but clearly ymmv.
Maybe it doesn't bother...
I've wanted to explore improv for some time, as a means of shoring up my ability to wing things as I'm GMing - partly out of concern over long prep times which I don't have as much time for, and partly to allow the players more input into the game story (that is, to be more comfortable being...
A few recent goodies I've really been enjoying (or plan to really enjoy):
Bullet-shaped d6s (for GURPS, in my case, I believe they were made for Deadlands originally)
Strands of Fate, 2nd Edition
Improv for Gamers
I assume that given a choice, most gamers would prefer a PC or a console. Mobile games aren't a replacement to me, they're a way to play on the bus, on my lunch break, in a Lyft, etc., places where I don't have PC/console access.
Seems somewhat related, but BlizzCon this weekend announced that...
I've GMed quite a few convention one-shots in the past few years, each run three different times over the long weekend -- always GURPS, but always something new for each con, and running the spectrum from light-hearted romps through a child's dream world to hard-core military infiltration and...
Ooh, lots of great stuff to track down in this thread! A few of mine:
Buffy the Vampire Slayer
Firefly
Star Trek: TNG
Nowhere Man
Six Feet Under
The Shield
Freaks and Geeks
Preacher
Game of Thrones
Rick and Morty
30 Rock
The Boondocks
Battlestar Galactica
I have finally, after carrying it with me for nearly 20 years from home to home, state to state, started reading "The Essential Conan" and, so far, "The Hour of the Dragon" has been a great read. Looking forward to sitting down this weekend and finishing off the smaller stories. Team Howard!
Agreed, I think you'd be hard-pressed to find better than Lulu (though you may find cheaper). It's been a looong time since I've had them print anything so I don't really have a handle on specs or anything, but there are some pics here of a few books they did.
Lots of awesome stuff here. :shade:
My most chillaxy game was probably in high school. The first 8 games, representing two weeks or so in the fiction, was spent trying to figure out who in the village was leaving love notes for the brewer's daughter, a friend of the PCs. They had all grown up...
We are running a donation drive this month to help offset the costs of running the Pub and to avoid running intrusive ads in the future. If you would like to help out please visit this thread for more details. Thank you!
