"OK, OK, calm down! Now, only one of you can play a character who's essentially Maximus from Gladiator. In order to settle this you shall have to fight in this arena I have constructed //gestures towards previously unseen stuff in back garden// Well, you did say you wanted greater immersion!"
As much as I love the original film, Deckard isn't the hero and the Bladerunners are the bad guys. They hunt and kill without mercy escaped slaves. Having them as the focus of an rpg is just way off for me.
If you love the first ed then I don't think you have anything to worry about with 2nd ed. Its got all the stuff that make the setting unique, but it feels even more alive (right term?) Been reading it over the weekend (yes, I know, it's a bank holiday in England and I'm sitting inside reading...
I found to my cost the first time I did something like this that the combination of jam (jelly is clearly for our cousins across the water!) and peanut butter, heated just a little too much, is basically napalm for the mouth.
Reading through the alpha pdf of a/state2 there are some relatively subtle setting changes (like what were 'macrocorps' are now 'trusts', and the names of some of them have changed. I quite like the changes actually). And there's some good stuff on the weird aspects of the game that was never in...
Finally (finally!) coming off of about 6 months of relentless 12 hour shifts, which has meant very little time for anything other than commuting, working, sleeping, and occasional eating. Thank heavens that's over for now. Hopefully getting back into some games. As I mentioned elsewhere, my mate...
a/state 2nd edition PDF just got released to backers. Its very nice. Not had much of a chance to do more than flick through it but there are lots of differences to Blades in the Dark and the book looks amazing.
Nearly 1000 backers and 54 grand in backing seems pretty good to me, especially when Delta Green and Avatar have been sucking in all the Kickstarter attention and money. I've not backed many Kickstarters, but this one seemed to be very grounded and sensible - concentrating on expanding the core...
Pretty adaptable for games that rely on trust/tension no matter what the period/setting. I've played in con games for CC set in Medici era Italy, HW on a space station slowly crashing into a gas giant, etc. Strip away the period trapping from both and you have a really solid set of mechanics and...
Sounding like broken record but Cold City or Hot War would work well from pretty much any spy/espionage game. In different ways they both capture a lot of the uncertain grey-areaness of espionage, and the ways in which trusts and relationships work within that genre. I also think that ebfore he...
Ah, right. Got you.
That's good to hear. Looking forward to see what's contained in that chapter.
Fair enough. It would be really great to see a/state better supported than it was before. More books on The City areas, different groups in the City and stuff would be nice to see. And supplements...
So will all the locations that appeared in the first edition appear in this new version?
How much support is there for this stuff? It was vague in 1st edition, so it would be good to get an understanding of how it's developed in this new version.
That's good to know - the support for the...
Hi Jacob - you work for Handiwork, right? If so, I might have a few questions for you and the a/state team (particularly Malcolm - any way you might persuade him to join here and answer himself?), if that's ok?
Are the locations inthe new edition of the game going to be from the 1st edition or...
We are running a donation drive this month to help offset the costs of running the Pub and to avoid running intrusive ads in the future. If you would like to help out please visit this thread for more details. Thank you!
