It’s about 36 hours to go to back Dagger in the Heart. They’ve funded and hit most stretch goals, but two remain. If you haven’t already, check it out.
Dagger in the Heart
Ignatius arrives early, but not wanting to seem to eager, waits until his fellows arrive and then, after greeting them, enters the grounds with them. He hails Krup and introduces himself to the strangely dressed fellow, assuming he is the sage that Mssr. Krup mentioned.
"I am Ignatius Stone...
The last thing I want to see, or that we need, is anything 5e related.
I like that they’re making an entirely new game. I like that they’ve been inspired by all manner of games, including newer ones. I like that CR cited their inspirations early and obviously in the playtest.
I quite like...
I think the difference is like watching Die Hard versus watching something like Beasts of No Nation.
Both are movies. Both are meant to be entertaining. One also examines some real world problems. It involves potentially troubling themes and ideas in a fictional way, at a safe remove.
Neither...
[OOC] Ig would just have questions about the scholar. Name, general details, qualifications and/or special skills. Just to have a sense of how helpless they may be if things go poorly. Other than that, I think he’s just psyched to go on a quest, and isn’t thinking to ask anything else.[OOC]
I’ll lead with saying that I enjoy both.
But if I had to choose, I’d say explorer in this context. I like when my games have a little more meat on the bone when it comes to theme and resonance.
It’s amazing because you know that it’s all mostly true. And you know that most of the men you’re watching are actually boys of 17 to 22.
Then you see them as old men looking back at it all, and the impact it still has on them.
For me, it’s so impactful because I think of myself at that age...
I haven’t seen the second Dune yet, but I found the first to be somewhat that way. I think that’s intentional though. There’s like an alien quality to things. We’re witnessing this world, but we’re not a part of it, maybe.
But some of his other works are devastatingly immersive. Sicario is...
Given the lack of evidence supporting the existence of gods in our world combined with the preponderance of religion, I can only imagine that the human reaction to proof of the divine would be significant denial.
I think this is likely due, at least in part, to the role of faith to both men.
Tolkien’s story draws many parallels from his faith, and has a very altruistic idea that evil can in fact be defeated and good can triumph.
Herbert takes a more nuanced approach. There are certainly examples of...
Tolkien used allegory and symbolism plenty. Much of it the same type of allegory and symbolism used in Dune.
The criticism seems pretty simple on its surface. I didn’t watch the video (despite the topic, I get the impression ai won’t like the presentation) so perhaps this is elaborated upon...
Yeah, I’m not sure who you mean by “we”… I’m only speaking for myself. Some of my favorite games have come out in the last 10 years.
I want to see continued creativity and growth rather than just recycling the same stuff again and again with a slightly different facade.
There are times when I wish that they had been able to get away with it, if only to see what many designers would then come up with.
Like if folks needed to stop leaning on the D&D system, what else might we have at this point? I don’t need anymore versions of D&D at this point.
I’m not...
I’ve played it with my kids and it is very good at what it’s supposed to do. Maybe a little too fight heavy, but it’s not too difficult to be d the system a but to allow for solutions other than fighting.
I think the reason D&D continues to be the main gateway for people into the hobby is due...
