In no particular order...
Dragonbane
Mörk Borg
Into the Odd
Barbarians of Lemuria
Cthulhu Dark Ages
Honorable mentions
Talislanta The Savage Lands, Dungeon Crawl Classics.
Taking advantage of this to smuggle a pretty good video essay on Tolkien (there are English subtitles available, real ones, not automated)
A very good article on Tolkien and Escapism.
one shot adventures, as the name implies, plenty of adventures (and I mean plenty), can't vouch for all of them but there's lots of choice regarding genre or system.
Monophobia, a fear of solitude, three adventures for one player/one keeper.
Cthulhu Reborn, Convicts & Cthulhu and a good...
Yes! And the T'skrang and their riverboats, the Obsidimen, the Orks as former slaves of the Dwarves... They all felt cool at the time.
As for the system, for me it was one of those "the effort I need to put into it isn't worth the results I get".
At least it proves @MongooseMatt can reach to NASA regarding Mongoose's Pioneer game. There's someone there who knows what TTRPGs are.
Or get a foreword by Neil deGrasse Tyson
I can only talk about what I liked in the game: the way they managed to give many D&D tropes a reason to exist in the setting (Classes, levels, the existence of a common tongue, dungeons...) and added some neat stuff (the Horrors, kinda Clive Barker meets Cthulhu creatures, the absence of Gods...
Most of the The Laundry early adventures (and the rulebook as well), the Darkening of Mirkwood for The One Ring, the aforementioned Pirates of Drinax (Traveller), Heart of Fury (Bulldogs) and a lot more...
Basically he's very good at making adventures closely tied to their setting. For example...
Murder on Arcturus station is a classic for a good reason. It's sci-fi but no supernatural elements there. The recent re-release (Mysteries on Arcturus Station) is pretty good as well.
And another vote for the Gangbusters adventures already mentioned.
I forgot about a grim & gritty/street-level game that's pretty interesting: Fates Worse than Death (there's a free lite-version). I'd like to give it a go one day.
For a last minute one-shot I'd probably use CY_BORG (classes but no levels).
If you have no personal attachment to CP2020, Cyberpunk Red can be a good choice, it's a solid game.
As mentioned, the free version of Cities Without Numbers is a great resource for Cyberpunk GMs (and so is Augmented...
The part about the contested rolls is what interested me, thanks! Congrats on Righteous Blood Ruthless Blades it's a great game, got me into mining the Romance of Three Kingdoms for inspiration.
In his review, Seth Skorkowsky talked about how to resolve a tie, it seems that wasn't adressed in the rules (and if that's the case that could be added to the upcoming french edition) so any clarification on the subject would be welcomed. FWIW his review made me buy the game
EDIT...
Thanks :) But yeah, I suck at self-promotion
The game that really got me into solo rpging was Dragonbane, the solo rules are very solid. Highly recommended.
Ah! That's easy!
