I just had a shower thought that’s really nagging me: How does religion make sense in a D&D-like setting? I mean, in some settings there is no need for faith as the existence of gods are unquestionable. They’ve walked the earth, possibly before breakfast today. Also, magic exists, you can learn...
This one really impressed me. It doesn’t have the full crunch of Advanced, and is just a very nicely produced book. There are some rules differences, but one of its goals was to be compatible with the official products without doing any conversion work. No character creation though. But you can...
Anyone care to give more details for Mutants in the Now/Next for curious minds out there? The only modern take on mutant animals I’m familiar with is Atomic Highway which is pretty cool, and SURVIVE THIS!! Vigilante City, which had a mutant animal section and the core setting had a mutant filled...
I just discovered this too. I don't know why it hasn't gotten more air time, at least in the places I read about RPGs. It is a pretty slick little game, within the D&D genre, but definitely its own thing. Simple enough that I would play it with my kids, but enough to it to keep me interested as...
What happened to Complete? It isn’t on Drivethru that I can see, I only see a box set on Frog God’s website, and I don’t see anything on Tenkar’s Tavern, nor do I know what he has to do with it anyway. Google also doesn’t seem very helpful. Could you fill me in?
My friends oldest brother ran us both through an adventure in second edition in about 89 I guess. I rolled up a human fighter, but didn’t have enough gold for a sword so I had a spear or polearm of some sort. I can still remember being attacked by stirges and not being able to hit it with my...
I’m not sure where you get the impression I’m looking for any of the things you mentioned (well I guess I do expect dazzling prose, but I have that bar set very modestly for RPGs). I also don’t care how pretty my hammers are either, though truth is when I picture RPG books in my mind, 3rd...
I hate to be that guy, but the world books never did it for me, and this is coming from someone that had an immense collection of them. They were just longer Wikipedia articles or a history book you’d find in an elementary/junior high library. I also found them extremely dry, and the drier the...
This looks great, thanks for bringing it up. I have much love for Star Wars d6. This seems like a nicely simplified version of it, easy to build on and turn it into what your table likes about Star Wars.
I guess I should say that I like every official editin of D&D, and many of the modern OSR interpretations too. I think D&D just taps into something special, it's style of gameplay just never gets old for me, even as that style of play has morphed over the years. It is just a fun experience.
The Original, Advanced, and Revised Basic Marvel Superheroes FASERIP. In fact, we used everything from every edition pretty much interchangeably. We didn't have Ultimate Powers back in the day, but looking at it now, I'm glad we didn't. Yuck. Not that I'm opposed to anyone else enjoying it.
Just an FYI, Astral has a decently robust character sheet maker where you can upload a PDF of a character sheet and go from there. I am currently using it for a friends home brew that he is working on. In his case, he has a pretty complex dice manipulation system going on, so it isn't quite...
Just watched this last night thanks to this thread. Really enjoyed it. They featured some of my favourite art, or at least the stuff that most stuck with me over the years..
I also like how Crypts & Things does it. One magic class that casts black (offensive), white (defensive), and grey (illusion) spells. Black spells can corrupt and mutate the caster, white spells attracted attention from Lovecraft type things from beyond space and time, and grey magic was...
That seems like it would work out amazingly well. Simple, and I think it would have great flavour. I would never have come up with such an elegant solution.
Those disc bound journals page turn so nice and smoothly. I wish I could get a plain hardcover though. The leather ones with all the pockets and stuff at Staples are a little much for me.
I have also had great luck using LaTeX for laying out RPG stuff. I did my own table copy of Marvel FASERIP with LyX and it turned out great. Better than the originals in some ways. It took some experimenting to get the pictures to place where I wanted them to be, but I was really satisfied with...
Access to that page is restricted to members I guess, which seems kinda strange for a store.
I just thumbed through a junior sized disc-bound planner and it felt really nice. I would definitely consider buying into that system in the future, even at Staples prices. What I did in the mean time...
We are running a donation drive this month to help offset the costs of running the Pub and to avoid running intrusive ads in the future. If you would like to help out please visit this thread for more details. Thank you!
