I have Ryuutama and Fabula Ultima, but not sure when I'll get to run them.
When I do, I'm likely not to scratch the same itch as my other games, so I don't think I will go for Fabula Ultima's High Action High Fantasy Anime style.
I'm more likely to run Fabula Ultima in Pastoral Fantasy mode or...
Actually I think I read that GM had become more common parlance by the mid 70s, despite the term Referee being in the original 1974 D&D booklets.
I guess Gygax and crew put their own spin on it by using 'DM' a year or two later, and the rest is history.
I don't think any term does the role justice, because it's such an unique role
So every term is valid, and I'm cool with whatever the game designers want to name it for their game.
(It's just that the term 'GM' is common lexicon for the hobby, so there should be no dramas using it throughout...
Game Master is a pretty most common term, and it's the lexicon that's widely know in the rpg hobby.
I always thought it was a spin on 'Master of Ceremonies', which doesn't usually invoke any dark connoctations
That's not to say that other terms are wrong either (Referee, Narrator, Arbitrator...
Yeah I haven't really seen enough reviews about Temples & Tombs to make my mind up, but it doesn't scream 'rollicking pulp' like Dicey Tales for instance.
The core YZE is a good enough chassis for Pulp however, and your bullet-pointss alone make YZE sound like it'll sing as a pulpy system
While we're shilling Pulp trpgs, perhaps these can explain Broken Compass much better than I can...
Broken Compass - DungeonDoor Review (this one is worth a chuckle)
Broken Compass - Dave Thaumavore Review (good detailed review)
Broken Compass - 1shot Adventures (quite enetertaing review)
Just downloaded the Talislanta Epic Edition kickstarter pdfs tonight.
(Whilst I dont mind D&D 5E, I'll be ignoring any of the D&D 5E conversion for this setting and just reading the Talislanta house system stuff)
First impressions is that the Talislanta 6E Epic Edition looks great with it's...
Yes alot of these features are common place now with expanding the role of Luck/Fortune/Fate Pts in many rpgs as 'scene editing' opportunities. This felt quite novel to me when I first read White Wolf's Adventure! rpg about 20 yrs ago.
Adventure! really was a great pulpy game that was...
This looks absolutely wonderful, I think it may possibly be a purchase for me.
I could use that with Shadowdark, or if I ignore the NPC/Opponent Stat Blocks I could pretty much use the rest of it with Mythras
I love folklore, so this looks really great
Thanks for the heads up!
Yeah I totally forgot Jolly Roger and the names of the other books. They're all really good.
I haven't seen Dicey Tales, but I do have Honor + Intrigue, which is more or less the same system in a Dumarest Musketeer/Pirate era setting. It's a straight forward system which lends itself well to...
Yeah there are heaps of options. This is what I'ld grab from my book shelves:
Broken Compass - one of my most recent pulp systems, it's pulp adventure down to a tee. Perfect vibe and mechanics for it. The core rules set it in contemporary times (or '1999" if you don't want mobile phones/instant...
It was March last year I wrote that I didn't have the funds to back the Talislanta kickstarter.
Less than four weeks later I was backing the Talislanta kickstarter, heh heh
We are running a donation drive this month to help offset the costs of running the Pub and to avoid running intrusive ads in the future. If you would like to help out please visit this thread for more details. Thank you!
