I’m looking for new urban fantasy settings but haven’t been able to find much interesting or well supported. Anyone have ideas for inventing your own? I have ideas for a bazillion campaign settings but can’t decide what to pick first, aside from the tone being fun and campy.
E.g. the adventure...
Because I have enough on my plate as it is, I’ve decided to open this thread for discussing the urban fantasy genre.
The urban fantasy genre is in a horrible rut at the moment. There used to be movies, shows, comics, and non-romance novels in the genre, but now it’s entirely the purview of...
I’m a fan of an obscure roleplaying game titled Nephilim. It’s originally a French game, but Chaosium briefly tried adapting it to the US market in the 90s before canceling it. Meanwhile, the French continued through multiple publishers with different ideas for how to handle it… ideas that don’t...
There’s a lot of old dead tabletop IPs that I miss, so I’m using this thread to brainstorm new settings that recycle those inspirations. I will release those into public domain so that everyone can use them in perpetuity and they’ll never die because some evil corpo locks them in copyright jail...
The overwhelming majority of crpgs are D&D-influenced. There is a smattering other genres like post-apocalypse, cyberpunk, or space opera. But even these are dominated by a handful of titles or franchises, such as Fallout, Deus Ex, and Mass Effect.
What genres/subgenres do you think are under-...

http://www.sjgames.com/pyramid/sample.html?id=1543
Star*Drive was released in 1998 as the implicit campaign setting for TSR's scifi rpg Alternity. SD was created to be an ultra-generic space opera setting, not avant-garde or groundbreaking. WotC...
Do those other post-apocalyptic games have cryptic alliances and secret societies like the Friends of Entropy or the Knights of Genetic Purity?
I’ve tried finding an equivalent of Star*Drive with stellar nations, the Verge, and the Externals, but there’s nothing comparable. And you can’t make...

I’m currently working on an urban fantasy setting. Systemless at the moment, since I’m wondering whether I should make a ttrpg at all.
It’s not a dark setting...
After reading Opening the Dark's syntactic magic rules, I was curious about adapting the idea. (A syntactic magic system is one in which casters can create spells on the fly using a system of "nouns" and "verbs" or "realms", as GURPS parlance puts it. Ars Magica is the classic example. )
OtD's...
I am currently working on a (currently systemless) setting for romanticized vampires. https://docs.google.com/document/d/e/2PACX-1vRXShVnJvKRhqFBMhqtBGA2j_AYDVKGXPqAsenH26MGPGdrY8phdsGEfsTtJklKT4ZUabvqZ3w5x7xU/pub
I'm working on-off brainstorming for urban fantasy systemless settings: https://docs.google.com/document/d/e/2PACX-1vSUikwYQ7h3G7QzlyLRgg4b9R1vSYlRzdUAqJ3BYvaYGh5dU-5eFGtDha5cNH9-I42KLRMT2a96HR88/pub
This is intended to emulate stuff like Vampire Chronicles, Dresden Files, Lost Girl, Charmed...
I'm interested in urban fantasy that isn't Shadowrun or World of Darkness. Are there any games with a sizeable catalogue and living community, or am I gonna have to make it up myself? I've checked out some old games like Nightlife, WitchCraft, Nephilim, and Everlasting, but they're not longer...
We are running a donation drive this month to help offset the costs of running the Pub and to avoid running intrusive ads in the future. If you would like to help out please visit this thread for more details. Thank you!
