I don't really understand why my post on character death got shifted into a thread on fudging, but ok....
To be on-topic: I can't stand GM fudging.
If a die roll is being depended on to produce a result in a situation where the outcome is uncertain, then let it happen and let the roll be...
The 'Site was up at one point, earlier this week. Might have been Monday.
I was able to reach their forums that day, and there was a notification about questionable files found on their server, and a recommendation to update your password. Then the site went back down by the following day (the...
What I'm dying to know is if this Rpg will rival the esteemed Terra Primate. Which is objectively the best product that Eden Studios ever released, is a clear gift from the Rpg gods, and urinates champagne from within the pages.
Can Magnetic Press equal or exceed that?
If "hinder the fun" translates as: making the Rpg experience as boring as humanly possible for me. Then, yes.
IMO, it helps to make the gameplay experience far more exciting, challenging, and fun.
Character death doesn't have to be omnipresent, and the threat level could be controlled by the...
In my case, it's more noteworthy to list the games that I haven't dodged in recent years. It's not too difficult to reach that point if you:
Don't search out Kickstarters, and generally stay uninformed about new ones.
Have never purchased a Bundle of Holding, and don't follow their offerings...
With infantry, I would say units of 10-20 are very functional, depending on the role that they play in combat. A unit of 5 would be fine for a group of Archers, Cavalry or Rangers, but I wouldn't want to march a unit of 5 Soldiers/Warriors around the battlefield without some kind of unit-screen...
Arise from the dead, 4-year-old thread!
I've been reconnecting with Oathmark since about a month ago. I haven't played much of it, but I liked the simple combat rules, and the kingdom construction, which guides army list builds. I've also had the itch to get back into rank 'n' flank fantasy...
So, we got 2 games of Blood Rage in yesterday, and a good time was had by all. I won the first game pretty handily. In the second game, the last place player of the first game came roaring into the lead - he found his groove and dominated that game.
A photo taken from the first game. Start of...
My point - which may not have been clear - is that this kind of sliding scale made the definition of "explorer" a little muddy - at least to me. When applied as a focus then the "approach" became very clear in what it entailed. But the further examples drifted into the middle ground or in the...
It's interesting to read necro'd threads from 6 years ago and see what answers you originally gave and whether your opinions have changed over that time.
Ok, all of the examples provided definitely help to clarify the Explorer approach/"mentality". Thanks.
To me, the Diehard and Beasts of no Nation comparison seem like opposite poles with an escapist vs explorer approach - all one direction, or the other. Whereas the Tokugawan Samurai examples...
It has its imperfections and is open to abuse if the GM lets players run rampant in character generation. But it's intuitive, easy to GM, and a lot of fun.
Perhaps, then, I'm not quite understanding the distinction between escapist and explorer. Beyond the last example, I see the others as grouped in as escapist experiences.
To me, it feels quite separate to experience a modern, near-modern, or historical perspective, as a character in that time...
In this context, I am the antithesis of "Explorer". 100% Escapist, and 0% Explorer.
The entire point of Rpging to me is as an escapist, imaginative experience. It doesn't need to be as ... trivial as shooting things or exploring dungeons and taking stuff. There's plenty of room for depth in an...
The "perfect" game system is one that annoys me the least. It needs to be intuitive, provide a framework, and then gets the hell out of my way when it needs to.
There isn't a single, perfect Rpg system that I would use, because I like some variation between the genres of campaigns I run. I...
I have experience with Heavy Gear (2nd edition) and Jovian Chronicles. I ran a campaign of HG about 15 years ago, and ... well, I've admired JC for a couple decades but haven't gotten around to running.
The Silhouette system is intuitive and enjoyable to play. Character-level-play, and...
Yep, similar experience for me. The group I was gaming with during that time shifted to using Roll20. And it ended up being the worst Rpging I've ever experienced. Un-engaging, un-immersive, and totally un-fun.
I'm very hesitant to consider online gaming again, even given the fact that I'm not...
I played in one session of 4e. I was basically filling in for an absent player, at some point in the middle of the campaign.
One combat took the entire 5-hour session. That didn't really sell me on the edition.
When it comes to wargaming, I get wistful thinking about AT-43. Interesting setting and factions; a pretty decent rules system.
I got into AT-43 during its last gasps of life. Online stores, like Miniature Market, were clearance-ing the hell out of the game, and I spent some cash to build up...
We are running a donation drive this month to help offset the costs of running the Pub and to avoid running intrusive ads in the future. If you would like to help out please visit this thread for more details. Thank you!
