  1. Skywalker

    Gone and almost forgotten

If you are talking about AiM, it comes in a box and is pretty cheap at retail (around $20).
  2. Skywalker

    Gone and almost forgotten

The first supplement had decent numbers last year. About 3/4ths of the core product in terms of backers 3 years later. But it is a very specific experience, so it generates bursts of discussion but not ongoing ones like a more traditional RPG.

Games you're dodged (the anti-addiction thread)

Dodged Evil Hat's latest Stewpot KS. The RPG actually looks pretty cool, but there is almost no reason for me not to wait to retail and Evil Hat is established enough not to need my support in a KS.

Games you're dodged (the anti-addiction thread)

Yes please. I am super happy with the approach Monolith took to the Batman RPG (1 rulebook, 1 setting book and 1 adventure book). I am hopefully Conan may finally get an RPG treatment that works for me. Even just confirmation as to whether it uses Chroniques Oubliées would be appreciated.
  5. Skywalker

    Japanese TRPGs

At first these reminded me of old THACO tables. But I think the idea is to allow greater gradation and variance than just adding modifiers would do on a 2d6 roll.

The Board Game Thread - What have you Played recently?

I have booked a play of my set of Talisman 2e in a week's time (haven't played for years). Its so random that playing for money would be a crapshoot XD
  7. Skywalker

Games you're dodged (the anti-addiction thread)

In a like manner, I also skipped getting the Talisman RPG books reduced to clear by instead picking up the only Talisman 2e expansion I didn't own (Talisman The Adventure).

Quick question regarding Trophy Dark. Can it be run it be with little to no prep? Or does it require a prewritten scenario or prep to work?
  9. Skywalker

Games you're dodged (the anti-addiction thread)

Just dodged Cloud Empress by buying the Nausicaa manga instead.
  10. Skywalker

    New Talislanta

All cool. I agree that there are these subsystems in Atlantis, I just don’t think they add the level of complexity that your post suggests. However, I appreciate that may be a matter of personal taste and tolerance.
  11. Skywalker

    New Talislanta

I expect it is lighter but not by much. The core system for PCs and creatures is essentially the same and they feel much the same in play IME. There are some additional subsystems in Atlantis but they aren't that extensive IMO (all of those you mention take up less than 12 pages in the rulebook).
  12. Skywalker

    New Talislanta

They have a similar origin and rule system but Atlantis is classic Sword and Sorcery in an antediluvian version of Earth, whereas Talislanta is gonzo weird fantasy (in a good way).
  13. Skywalker

Tell us about something good that you got recently

Apocalypse Keys takes a number of great mechanics from other PbtA RPGs and adds them to a Hellboy style setting. Looks pretty good. I think the RPGs it borrowed from are fantastic so it has tempted me as well.

That is helpful, especially the distinction between Dark and Gold. In regard to mechanics, what are some of the main gameplay loops and why do they work well?
  15. Skywalker

Tell us about something good that you got recently

I still find understanding what Trophy is to be unusually impenetrable. It intrigues me, but no one seems to be able to explain it in a way that makes sense to me. I may just need to grab it at some stage, given Gauntlet’s other games (Hearts of Wulin and Brindlewood Bay) are amongst my top 10.
  16. Skywalker

    Let's Read the ALIEN RPG

They are all very good though they are quite different. My favourite is Destroyer of Worlds as it’s an Aliens riff but has so much new ideas in the set up with its Black Hawk Down vibe. Chariot of the Gods is also good but a very classic set up like Alien with not much deviation. Heart of...

    Japanese TRPGs

The PDF usually determines the size. SW corebooks are in A5 and the supplements A4. You can resize the pages as usual, of course. As to tips, make sure you check the interior. Use two page display to check you have it right. There may also be pages that need splitting or re-orienting. I think...
  18. Skywalker

    Japanese TRPGs

It takes a quite a bit of experimentation to learn the skills, and there is an upfront cost of doing so. I tend to find each cover template for public use is slightly off and you can only really work out by how much by making your best guess and then adjusting later prints. Also hardcover is...
  19. Skywalker

    Japanese TRPGs

I did my own spines. The corebooks took two iterations as did the first of the larger supplements. After that, I had the adjustments all down for later books.
  20. Skywalker

    Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay - 2e vs 4e

I have an 80% complete set of 1e and 99% complete set of 2e. I also have 3e and 4e books for The Enemy Within that aren’t covered by the 1e TEW books. I have owned Zweihander, 3e and 4e and would happily play them, though I have sold them on due to shelf space. Looking forward to The Old...
