I've had that happen. Not for these books but something else entirely. I believe RM are telling porkies and just don't have the staff willing to work Saturday's sometimes.
I got the original release some time back and I've picked a couple of the adventures as well. No realistic chance of running it but it's a great setting.
You add positive dice from positive situations and negative ones from hindrances. Roll them, pull out mtaching pairs to cancel and highest renaini9ng die give a value 1-6 which is checked against a table for degree of success/failure.

Started in 1974 with a photocopied set of OD&D via a friend at Cambridge University who had US friends. First GM'd that Christmas and mostly haven't stopped running game since. Played a number of games moving on from D&D through Traveller and Chivalry and Sorcery to BRP and a variety of Indie games.
I thought that Factions bore more than passing resemblance to material previously published as Empires II under the Mongoose Publishing banner. I've used Empires in the past as a behind-the-scenes tool for certain campaigns in the past.
I have a copy of original Legend and several of the other books in hard copy and Lulu'd several of the pdf's into a single volume for the least used ones. Bear in ind that the editing is well down to Mongooose's usual low standard and the later books have chunks missing.
