Dune Freaks: Defiler Walk With Me

3+1 action points is crazy good. I look forward to watching this pair of Thri-Keen in action!

Grim & Perilous now ... Cannon Otter Studio?

Very true. And then he takes out the box and puts on the morals he thinks will do the lost for him. Much like Buffalo Bill putting on a skin-suit.

Grim & Perilous now ... Cannon Otter Studio?

I watched the intro and skimmed through bits and pieces. My opinon of Fox remains unchanged. A talentless, sell aggrandizing asshole still peddling his snake oil.

    Daggerheart

    Ha! Exactly my reaction.

Return to the Old School: How to kick ACKS (or die trying).

I went back and reread the first post, and it seems like 2years of prep created a 2 year campaign. I’m curious why this campaign came to a halt? There were multiple mega dungeons that had significant amounts left to explore. And the campaign had come to a point where the players could...

Wrapping up Adventures that bleed through multiple sessions in order to do 1:1 time

So much this. I’ve done 1:1 timekeeping, and it isn’t sme transcendental mode of gaming It’s really more of a PITA. IMHO, 1:1 time only has value in a sandbox, open table campaign where multiple groups are campaigning in the same area more or less simultaneously.

    Who is Shotgun Bob?

It’s double barrel chili - one blast is when you eat, the second the next morning! :D

Are many fantasy gamers irrational about guns in settings?

if it fits the setting, I have no problem with it, and in fact enjoy firearms as a game addition. I’m currently playing in a WHFRP4E campaign and my Witch Hunter carries a brace of pistols while his Coachman henchmen carries a blunderbuss called “Sigmar’s Fury”.

    Does anyone still play 4e?

    My Nemesis, autocorrect, strikes again!

    Does anyone still play 4e?

There are always players who take forever making a decision. Which is why in earlier editions you push those players towards Fighter, with few decisions to make. 4e Nikes every character play like a MU, so every class has lots of options for players to dither over. My experienced playing...

    Does anyone still play 4e?

I agree. It always felt very MMORPG to me. 4E also pushed me to do a 180, in terms of “game balance”. I no longer have any desire to play a TTRPG that places any focus on class balance, balanced encounters, wealth by level, magic item balance , etc. The only TTROGs I have any interest in...

I'm not a fan of VTTs, and I feel behind the times.

I do even less - rolling dice and acting as a virtual Battle Mat. I don’t prefer VTT over physically being at a table, but VTT is the only option that lets me actively game.

Length of sessions, pace of play, and complexity of adventures: trials of the aging gamer

these days, I can devote a 4 hour block to my gaming sessions. Since that is total time, VTT has been a Godsend. I had mostly given up on gaming for several years prior to the pandemic, as my gaming group required a 45 minute commute. Back when I (and the group) could give a full Saturday...

    Thoughts on Campaign Length

Three years has been about my limit for a campaign where we played weekly or biweekly. It seems that in that period of time it becomes very difficult to maintain enough interest and newness that you can keep the group together. And I mean the actual group of people not the party.

Grim & Perilous now ... Cannon Otter Studio?

It’s a poorly executed retro clone that was created by an individual who has no real talent in attempt to jumpstart their career as a great game designer. That the need for a new revision to the poor retro clone to sell more copies and try to distance itself from its origins, since it is...

Grim & Perilous now ... Cannon Otter Studio?

Meh. I had such high hopes for Zweihander as the successor to WHFRP 1e. What I got was some thing that seemingly change things for no good reason just enough to make it “different.”. Plus, I prefer my gaming to be very much in the same spirit as the Pub, which is politics agnostic. Without...

(D&D) Would you bail if the DM says, "This setting replaces wizards and clerics with psions."

It depends. Which psionics rules? AD&D 1e would be a hard pass (been there, done that, hit the crappy t-shirt). D&D 3E would be a system I’d try. It also depends on the setting. Classical Middke Earthish high fantasy? Not interesting. Weird sorcery & super science? Count me in!

Evil Genius Games vs. Netflix: Fight!

I would think he was the one betting on himself.

Evil Genius Games vs. Netflix: Fight!

    Looks like Netflix won.

Evil Genius Games vs. Netflix: Fight!

I read the article. Dave Scott sounds like a psychopath.
