    OSR: what is it even

Could somebody answer a question for me? What was it about Google Plus that attracted gamers, particularly those in the OSR category? I ask because I saw G+ like most folks saw it, a social network attached to Google products and not really doing all that much more than the others. Was it...

    RPGSite down?

Yeah, and while the statement was made above that the Internet is "better archived", I suspect forums are a harder type of site to archive than a news or blog site. The US government does a lot of this...some of it being illegal and they've had to delete items. But the capabilities are there...

Troll Lords gets the rights to do Gary Gygaz old stuff.

Well, looks like GFW did get over 250k of interest as it ends. But the post I previously made, the parody homage made over 635k! We will have to see how the Castle Zagyg kickstarter will do...but I'd hate to think more people are interested in a parody adventure than actually stuff written or...

    RPGSite down?

Probably some maintenance that is taking longer than they thought. Of course, I do wonder if someday the Pundit might just end the forum out of boredom. He rarely participates in the actual discussion and when he does it's simply a link to his latest video. He doesn't really act much as...

Troll Lords gets the rights to do Gary Gygaz old stuff.

Well, they've started the Kickstarter for GFW. Looks like over 300 people are paying an Average of $275 for this. What kind of bugs me is that the "unreleased" work is going to be in PDF only. Another Kickstarter is not related to the Estate, but Luke's co-authorship of a Gygax Parody...

RPG.Net has been purchased by the owners of RPGMatch

I've seen it, as I had tons of Gurps 3E books. This usually game up in books having alien races or the Biotech book or the Companions, as in classic SF some beings were bred to be docile and servants. It might have been slightly different but I believe the word slave was in there.

RPG.Net has been purchased by the owners of RPGMatch

The worst sign of abuse of this to me, was from a few years ago. GURPS has an attribute called "Slave Mentality". This came up a bit in a GURPS thread about Banestorm. One of the SJG staff members working on GURPS, Phil Masters, explained why the term was used, and pushed back on the concept...

RPG.Net has been purchased by the owners of RPGMatch

As Endless posted in another thread, things will change. Any company that acquires another company will change things, it's just a matter of time. To give a big example, Television Without Pity was one of the biggest message boards around, had a cult following, ended up changing critics voices...

    What’s a recent trend/fad that you despise?

Yeah. A variant of that I see are the people who start the same thread in multiple sites -- they aren't plugging stuff like a product, but they just post the same opening post in multiple forums. I understand forum traffic is down across the board, and most people are multi-forum subscribers...

    What’s a recent trend/fad that you despise?

The other thing is it is keeping your content out of the general search engines. A lot of stuff I've found over the years I found from Google searches. While google can search video it's a lot harder to search for interesting content there. And videos can't be skimmed or glanced at as easily...

    What’s a recent trend/fad that you despise?

One thing that's bugging me a lot is the growing laziness of people on the Internet to create, mostly people pursuing video over their blogs. Two big examples from the RPG side would be Tenkar's Tavern and the RPG Pundit. Pundit's blog and participation on his own forum is just a sentence and...

Troll Lords gets the rights to do Gary Gygaz old stuff.

Feeling Nostalgic since this is the 16th Anniversary of Gary Gygax's death... KoE/KoF is interesting enough -- I have seen the manuscript, but I guess it will all depend on the execution. Honestly, one item that would be more interesting to me would be his Chess Variants book -- if you liked...

Gary Gygax's Estate is Putting Stuff Up for Auction

His Gun collection is one of the few things he left to his Children outside of the IP, and a fun but there. Here's the quote -- the bold is my emphasis. Depends on what happens. This was posted in a discussion thread on ENWorld but there's little traffic there. Probate is Public so I...

Gary Gygax's Castle Zagyg Yggsburgh Campaign Setting Pre-Order

I don't have a bad opinion about Yggsburg...then again I am probably a bit biased, as that end credit so states. But if people didn't like Yggsburg, that was how Gary was writing in his latter days, and I have a feeling nothing he would have done would have pleased the more critical portions of...

Gary Gygax's Estate is Putting Stuff Up for Auction

More likely this is to pay attorney's fees first. The estate litigation has been going on since March 2020. I'm not sure what Attorney's fees would be for probate, but this was an unusual contested case. Based on a similar case some friends of mine had in 2009-2010 (an IP related issue), a...

Gary Gygax's Castle Zagyg Yggsburgh Campaign Setting Pre-Order

The first 3 were. Dan Cross contributed a lot of fleshing out of the second book, but that was a book of lists that needed a lot of expansion on. Of the 3, Living Fantasy is best, as it's a big expansion of the type of social class definitions and what a quasi-European medieval fantasy world...

Gary Gygax's Castle Zagyg Yggsburgh Campaign Setting Pre-Order

The way I remember it, it was going to be Lejendary Adventures only, no dual-stat stuff.

Gary Gygax's Castle Zagyg Yggsburgh Campaign Setting Pre-Order

I haven't been here in a while...I retired from message boards, but this is the only forum I considered for the past few years "my home". I don't think it was about cost so much -- I think IIRC Gail was thinking of having Jim Ward do it instead of Jeff. But that was at a time when Gail was...

    The Lost Dungeons of Tonisborg

If you saw above, I also mentioned Monte Cook's Kickstarter for Invisible Sun. There was a similar argument for that Kickstarter to release PDFs at the beginning. He didn't. The premium product was released. But after a year or two, he made the product available in PDF form. And even if the...
