Complex combat doesn't necessarily turn me off. You?

I thought, during my last Flashing Blades session, while I have nothing against simple “roll to hit, roll for damage” systems, there’s something appealing about this game’s deeper method. Hits feel earned, and damage meaningful. One isn’t better than the other, but complexity doesn’t turn me off.

    Favourite City Supplement?

So I discuss The City of Greyhawk and Skullport city supplements a bit here. More recently I really dig Fever-Dreaming Marlinko from Hydra Cooperative. I'm a sucker for a good city supplement, may wallet may regret me asking but what are your favourite city supplements?

Games Omnivorius - Minimalist and Bizarre RPGs

This small rpg company is based out of Lisbon and puts out some cool stuff, some OSR some system neutral, mostly minimalist and psychedelic. I discovered them when I backed their The Insectiary zine during the last Zinequest on KS. This game DEATH ROBOT JUNGLE looks nifty, with a map by the...

    D&D5 and the OSR

Logged into DTRPG to pick up the Autarch stuff I missed (Secrets of the Nether City and Capital of the Borderlands) and wondered about picking up the D&D5 version of one of their adventures, more out of curiosity than anything. And it got me thinking. I’m a fan of both games and I could even...

    Freebooters on the Frontier

So this is Jason Lutes' (a well respected writer and artist of comics like Jar of Fools and Berlin) OSR-ish hack of DW. Imagine if there was a B/X version of DW and that is pretty much FotF. "The characters in Freebooters on the Frontier are not the powerful heroes of Dungeon World. They are...

Galactic Dragons: Immortal Heroes of the Celestial Aether (Semi-OSR d20)

Based on the interest expressed in What IP/games would you like to see?, I thought I'd start a thread for each of my ongoing gaming/fiction projects to discuss what I'm trying to accomplish. Galactic Dragons grew out of one of my perennial White Whales-- the need to implement the Player's...

    OSR Blogs

I prefer content and reviews of new OSR material to internet drama, repetitive OSR 'think pieces' and similar pontificating. My tastes definitely run towards the stranger end of OSR material as well. Please add more! Save vs. Total Party Kill - Not a lot of updates these days but good quality...

    Grognardia: Still the G.O.A.T.*?

    * G.O.A.T. is an acronym for Greatest Of All-Time, for those who might be unfamiliar with it. This coming December marks the five year anniversary of James Maliszewski closing up shop on his popular blog Grognardia: Musings and Memories from a Lifetime of Roleplaying. His first post in...
