I always wondered why Kirk used glasses in the movies when he was in his room reading. Eye medicine didn’t progress enough in two centuries that glasses were still necessary?
To get such treatments, he'd have to admit that his eyes went bad by watching far more than the prescribed amount of porn.

Imperfect vision can be cured with a simple shot. Which Kirk is allergic to. Not a joke, actual canon.
Wow, had no idea they explained that. I guess I don’t know much of Trek besides some of the movies.

But seriously, I think there might be a bit of that in Lower Decks. I haven't seen but the one episode of that, though, so I can't be sure.

I believe Discovery has canonized the notion that at least some Federations starships have maintenance bots.

According to Memory Alpha, the barber on the D was a civilian.
I'm kind of curious how often they had to re-carpet the bridge set. I've got to believe after a while it would start wearing in high traffic areas. The silly things I ponder.:hmmm:

Just found out that in Star Trek II there's a scene with a crewman using a backpack vacuum cleaner:

Wonder if they've progressed past this by the time of Next Generation, or we just don't see it because it happens during Night Crew's shift?

maybe there are single purpose replicators on the floor constantly restoring it?

Star Trek canon is not as bad as Star Wars EU (let alone Marvel) canon, but it's not a paragon of consistency by any means.

Carpet might be the defining trait in sci fi. Star Trek has carpet. Star Wars does not.

Yeah, it's actually a minor point in the Wrath of Kahn movie. McCoy gives Kirk a pair of glasses for his birthday and says something like "Normally, for a patient your age I would prescribe retinides, but you are allergic to them." It's part of the whole 'Kirk is getting older' theme of the film.

To join in your overthinking, they probably could have gotten away with a fair amount of carpet wear on the set. Pre-HD TV's didn't have a lot of detail. Any time I have seen an a set for a TV show in person it looked a lot cheaper than on TV.
