Cowboy Bebop's Netflix live adaptation

Netflix cancels almost everything they produce within one or two seasons.

That's one of the two reasons we (GF and me) cancelled our Netflix subscription.
It makes absolutely zero sense to start watching any new series on Netflix.

It doesn't matter if it is good or not, it doesn't even matter if it garnered some interest or hype online.
Netflix just cancels everything that does not become an immediate blockbuster hit, while simultaneously continuing low-effort crap ala Vampire Diaries indefinitely.
And doesn't even have the decency to give a series a few more episodes as a conclusion so it would make sense to actually watch it after the fact.

What they don't realize is that they'll end up losing everyone that way, cause everyone will sooner or later have "their" series get cancelled and at some point that just gets too annoying.

And of course, because people are more hesitant to watch a series as they don't know if they'll even get a conclusion, it gets even less likely to be continued.
I truly wonder if Netflix will ever wake up to the situation they are putting themselves in...

Yeah, of all the services I have currently, Netflix is the one that would be the first on the chopping block if it came down to it. There are only two of its shows still in production that I really care about (mostly Cobra Kai and to a lesser extent, Stranger Things).

I don't like anime, but I watched 4 eps of the Netflix show so far. I don't LOVE it, but I like it a lot better than I thought I would. It's at least as good as Firefly, IMO.

I saw Serenity first, and tbh, even though I didn't get all of the character interactions, I always felt that the series, which I saw later, suffered by comparison. It was... aight.

I thought other than the production values, the series was better when viewed in the correct order, of course. It layered nuance and knowledge in a way that was pretty incredible to me at the time, and really made the relationships feel lived in.

I had watched the Cowboy Bebop anime a couple of times through over the last few years and loved it. I don't usually go back through a series completely unless it really grabs me. I was kind of excited when the Netflix adaptation was announced but I wasn't holding any high expectations about it, especially after reading a lot of the commentary about how bad Netflix handles these sorts of shows. I actually liked the live action show for what it was. A bit campy throughout, but overall a lot better than I expected. I really wish Netflix would have given them at least one or two more seasons to see where they would have taken it. Once they'd gotten passed most of the material from the anime, it would have been neat to see what other sorts of crazy stories they'd have cooked up for the characters. Oh well, such is life.

I finished watching it this past weekend. It grew on me somewhat over time, but I still feel like it could have been significantly better.

As far as the characters go, I thought Spike and Jet were great, especially Jet. Faye had potential, and the actor is really good, but it seemed like the creators of the Netflix show felt they had to make her more like Spike and Jet (only more foul-mouthed) and tried to distance her from the anime version too much. And I don't know what they were thinking with Vicious and Julia; the less said about them, the better. Finally, I know a lot of people didn't care for Edward, but even though they were barely in the show, I thought the portrayal was right on.

Vampire Diaries ended in 2017, so how are Netflix continuing it? Maybe your just refering to it being available for streaming though. I know it ended because I have watched the entire series, because my late girlfriend really liked it.

Add to that the fact that Netflix didn't even make it - the CW did.

Quite possible that I got lost in the ocean of angsty-teenage-werewolf/vampire/etc. series that all follow the same formula and thus blend together and become one to me.

Add to that the fact that Netflix didn't even make it - the CW did.

That would explain it actually having an ending, then.

Another kind of series that is generally "safe" on Netflix is a series that is from its inception planned to only be a trilogy (such as the German-produced Dark).
If those don't get canned after first season, there's a realistic chance it might reach its intended conclusion.

Actually, they're not canceling Ragnarok either- giving it a final season to wrap up. I think it just varies. I wonder if their execs come from the TV world rather than the film world. TV has always cut things with no notice- which was why I started getting more into TNT and such, where they see it's going bad and order 6 episodes to close it out.
