Inspired by the thread here.

I think the working title is Western Wuxia. Not carved in stone.

A crowd-sourced project like this has two parts: System & Setting. Some people think these should be developed separately. I tend to think they should be developed in tandem. System should support & reinforce the setting and the setting should create an environment that inspires play.

A few ideas for systems were suggested in the other thread: d6 and Year Zero Engine (I would suggest the d6 version - d6s are cheap & ubiquitous). Additional suggestions and discussions desired, please.

As for setting, something akin to the original concept, but more anchored in cinema, like wuxia and other Western & Eastern action movies - The Warriors Way; Sukiyaki Western Django; The Good, the Bad, the Weird; RPGs like Steampunk Musha & High-Plains Samurai. Basic setting married to a scalable system that runs the gamut of gritty Heroics of The Man with No Name trilogy to "high tension, counting bullets, with wuxia stunts." We'll hammer out details, but I'd like to see a system for tables to tailor a broad-strokes setting to their own preferences with an adventure generator.

...And I would love to see this prettied up and offered free to those who want it.

I'm merely a facilitator & instigator.

DISCUSS!

I generally suggest making a system to power the setting's genre, so since this is a blend it needs to do what you want in the mixture well.

Surprising everyone, I'd suggest a mix of Year Zero Engine and d6!

...or, you know, Mythras:shade:!

Not everyone else. I'd recommend a hack to Tianxia Accelerated
But not everyone likes FATE, and the idea is for it to be useful for the majority of the backers.

Besides, Jadepunk is already doing the "FATE-powered guns and martial arts", albeit in its own setting.

I never said that it would be popular to everyone- just that it's what I'd suggest. And I have both, and like Tianxia better.

I think it might be better to make it a thread with a specific system in the OP and title. Or start a new thread.
Just saying, is all.

I'm surprised no one has suggested cat's cradle as the foundational system for the game.

Quite apropos for wirework.

If anyone was actually going to tackle this... it seems more an idea at this point than anything in action...

And it's too late... hell has frozen over and Far West is released on DTRPG

Out of curiosity, why? The idea was to tackle this as a group.

Well, there could have been, however...

...But a seal was broken, a shot rang out in the dark. A dog howled and thunder rolled in as a storm broke.

Because others, 30 pages later we'd still have nothing, and then people who had defended the ideas that didn't get accepted would feel dejected and underappreciated.

Far better to offer specific parameters, preferably such that would work for a good number of people.

Yeah, we were just a year too late in starting it:grin:!

That said, we can still do it. Anyone wants to write Near West: Year Zero, people?

Neither are my settings of choice but if people really want to try that, I'm in

I think we need some sort of google doc, maybe some way to vote and probably some sort of division

I think I can do some basic illustrating. And I vote Asen to design the Kung Fu

The only good thing about Far West is the map. Any half-competent GM with a taste for chop-socky action cinema, revisionist westerns and saturday mornig cartoons could spin a game up from that map. Start from there, and worry about system later.

been thinking about it and

1)I'm in favor of a d6 system. Don't know too much about Year Zero, will go look it up

2)Question : do we redo the map? changing my proposition from illustrating to doing a map, based on JAMUMU's post (even if we don't & unless many more come I'd probably be more useful writing anyway)

3)I think we should do a vote for the system
