The first review of FATAL I ever read was on SomethingAwful.I must have been of the wrong age or not terminally online enough because I didn't learn of SA until I got back into rpgs and discovered it as a source of a lot of online rpg drama and associated trolls.
Also an oddly humourless forum for a former 'comedy' site.
It used to be. The front page articles and "Photoshop fridays" were hilarious and worth reading. Also an oddly humourless forum for a former 'comedy' site.
That is an accurate assessment from my experience back in the day.they always seemed to carry an undercurrent of maliciousness to me, like they had one foot in 4chan and the other foot in Kiwi farms.
Yep, it was 10$ to join. Again, back in the early to mid 2000s, it was a pretty big forum. I don't think that there was anything like it (Reddit and 4chan weren't in the same league back then).I remember them (Rich) charging people money to use the forum and there were a lot of people paying.
Kiwi farms?I don't know anything about the site founder, this is my first time hearing his name, so I don't want anything I say to be construed as speaking ill of the dead or dismissing the tragedy for his friends & family.
But as far as the SA forums themselves, they always seemed to carry an undercurrent of maliciousness to me, like they had one foot in 4chan and the other foot in Kiwi farms.
I’ve read that they are like RPGnet now.

Kiwi farms?
4chan was started by someone from SA.
Yeah their RPG forum was the predecessor for RPGnet now. Less about games, more about... other stuff.I’ve read that they are like RPGnet now.
Surprisingly good method to keep like-minded people together. I was on SA pretty regularly just a few years ago and it seemed like a really good discussion place for RPGs and miniatures games especially.I remember them (Rich) charging people money to use the forum and there were a lot of people paying.
It's not just casual mockery, it's a central point for active harassment campaigns against any people the site deems an acceptable target, with minorities and folks with mental illnesses being particular targets. It's pure toxicity.A troll forum, primarily devoted to making fun of people like Chrischan
Some of the SA subforums are a lot.morw focused than others. There are still places where you can find serious, helpful discussion. The rest if the place is... well, SA.Surprisingly good method to keep like-minded people together.
