Super clever, ambiguously evil shape changers give me a thrill that I can't explain. Also being able to instill a sense of cosmic doom in witnesses.

But with DnD-ish worlds, I love Liches. The ultimate, scariest undead of them all, theoretically.

I've had a lot of fun with him in games.

I remember one time when I ran Masks of Nyarlathotep, a player's declining sanity manifested as a fear that anybody might be Nyarlathotep. He dealt with his fear by making sure that people could never be sure who he was, never appearing without a disguise and false identity of some kind.

I must admit, I am a fan of the undead, particularly Vampires and Liches.
