Happy Dyngus Day!

I'd never heard of this holiday before I moved to Ohio. It is a Central European or maybe just Polish celebration on Easter Monday. Traditionally, I guess, boys would spank girls with pussy willow stalks or dowse them with water, and girls would return the favor, as part of the celebrations. Here, as far as I can tell, it is mainly an excuse to eat paczki, pierogies, and kielbasa, and to drink beer. While listening to Polka, of course. Miss Dyngus will also be crowned (try putting that on your resume).

Sadly, I am doing none of these things.

Yep, I grew up near South Bend, Indiana and Dyngus Day was it. It’s the day to eat sour kraut and I hate that stuff.
