How did you end up here?

Best Selling RPGs - Available Now @ DriveThruRPG.com
What games are on your list to play? I goty first in person board game group back together last week after a 6 month hiatus and I'm missing them and gaming in general.
We're pretty flexible but so far we've mostly gone for older games with big settings and often lots of backstabbing.

Off the top of my head, among other things we've played Spartacus, Homeland, Firefly, Eldritch Horror, No Honor Among Thieves.

If we get the numbers/interest, I'd love to run a proper heavy game like Republic of Rome or Virgin Queen. I know Brock's also hankering for a game of 2e Talisman with all the expansions.

I hope they don't drop it. I'm pretty sure they'll have it until at least after the next movie (Part 2) comes out.

Here's a secret: When the game first came out they printed special editions of the core rulebook with covers for the Great Houses (Corrino, Atreides, Harkonnen) dependent on where you bought them from. Amazon sold the Harkonnen cover version.

Apparently they have a big stack of them buried in a warehouse somewhere because every few months they run a sale. I picked up the Amazon/Harkonen cover for under $20, which got me interested and made me pick up the other books. Check Amazon, it'll go on sale again.
I'll put it on camelcamelcamel to watch for.

Man, I haven't had anyone to play wargames with for ages. I also have an amazing knack for getting into games right as everyone else is getting out.

I used to mod on rpg.net. I haven't logged in there in over two years, and I didn't come here to talk about it. But if there are still hard feelings, or if my being here bugs anyone, no problem, I'll go elsewhere.
I'm not entirely happy you're here for reasons best left alone although they are mostly public here and in a few other places. However, I will try to not fault you due to your actions because of others being bad actors towards me (like a narcissistic ex) who are primarily behind the bad stuff. You can only act after all on what you're informed, and to some degree, I respect it, even if it made me hurt and angry.

The Pub has lots of posters that also post on rpgnet and other forums, just as many ex-posters with some bitterness about other places, but the Pub is a fresh start for everyone, and we don't have any forum rivalries or condone cross-forum drama.

This looks like a good place to talk about games once in a while. I'm very glad to see it's still going.

Hope it's okay if I'm here.
Good to see you here. The miniatures forums are a bit slow for my tastes. Not that I've done much to add to it lately. I was building a miniatures company directory last year. It'd be nice to have a more modern and up to date version of what The Miniatures Page does.

i think The Pub needs a sister site for wargames...The Tavern

Yah, it's a fine line. I don't want to be ranting about the Purple all the time, but I'll also never not empathise with anyone who's been treated like garbage there- which is a substantial percentage of the Pub's population.

There's enough wargame and RPG overlap. Keep the tent big.

under this tentpeg we're only getting the overlap, The Pub isnt a destination for wargamers. Honestly, when I want to talk wargames, i do it on FB groups (The Oldhammer forum chugs at a glacial pace; The Miniatures Page...well the less said the better; I don't like the formatting of Twitter or Discord for having discussions, Reddit is anathema, BGG is toxic af, and most other options are too 40k or specific wargame focused).

But I can post more about that stuff here at The Pub than I have. I'm not serious about a sister site; it would be nice. but I'm not going to make it happen at this time in my life.

well, we're actually deliberately more permissive about venting in this thread specifically, because we know (most if not all of us by experience) that that's part of the process for many folks leaving their online home under less than amicable circumstances and transitioning to a new community. And yeah, The Pub has a lot of refugees from bigger forums, and we don't strictly enforce any sort of ban on mentioning them, except for the fact that talking about them seems to more often than not go hand-in-hand with political opinions.

Yeah, although there's also a sizeable number of the Pub's population who feel they were treated badly by The Site and we have not only Site posters but ex (and at least one current) Site staff who post on here. (And to be fair, there are also several Site members who are of the view that moderation here was unfair to them).

Realistically, the RPG forum world is small enough that there are always going to be old grudges etc. It's just best for the health of the board overall if people try not to bring those here.

Crapping hell. I'd never been to the purple place before, but I got curious after hearing so many references here to the moderation. I went to see what all the fuss is about.

The infraction log is great entertainment. It's all so.. arbitrary. Best way to approach it is to read the infracted post without looking at any moderator comments, and then try to guess what the infraction was for. The game is not as easy as you might think!

I feel you. I moved to Baffin Island a decade ago and it's put a massive crimp in my ability to, you know, have people to play fancy tabletop stuff with.

Some moderators seem to have a specific thing they ding people for. There's one who dings people for "insensitive language" for using the phrase sacred cow. There used to be one who dinged people left, right and center for concern trolling or the even vaguer "concern toll-ish" behavior. It's like their moderation policy is based on their pet peeves. The infraction forum is a weird read.

That's a fun game indeed! Having done my share of doing that in fascination. It's like doing a wiki walk, you can end up wasting hours on it.

So, I know we're not supposed to dwell on the Purple site, but I have a funny story related to infraction log, which I had not seen at that time. I was playing in a PbP game of Shadow of the Demon Lord, which was going really well. The other two PC's and myself just gelled almost perfectly, we wrote tons of post in character, and probably bored the GM a lot with our non-stop dialog. One week, one of the PC's didn't post. We kinda stumbled on a few days, wondering in the OOC thread where they were. The game kinda stalled, another couple days passed, and I saw some reference to the Infraction thread. No, I think to myself, I've seen them post tons and nothing to even look twice at. But I check the thread anyway... 2 pages in, there they are: 30 Day Ban. I go find the infraction in the actual thread, and they were banned for basically asking for clarification on what another posted said. That's a No No, you Ban now!

Anyway, long story short, it basically killed a great PbP game. :-/

I think this site beyond a handful of others is the only one I check everyday.

I used to be an active poster over on the Therpgsite yet no beyond an handful of posts just have become tired of Pundit overall BS.

If it’s not the click bait style videos and the continuous sky is falling style posts it’s his recent attack on the site just drive me away. He has never visited the site yet he can speak with absolute certainty about the site. How all the members and mods feel. He acts like this site and all of its members all personally despise him. Most don’t care or at most ambivalent about the subject imo. Amazing analysis for someone who never visited the site.

i just no longer feel the need to subject myself to that anymore. Given I have other options like this site.

Oh, I'm pretty sure he reads here as a guest. In fact I suspect at least some of this is that he's still in a snit because I did a review of Lion & Dragon five years ago. (It wasn't even especially negative, I just criticised parts of it rather than claiming it was perfect. But I recommended it to people looking for an OSR version of Warhammer).

But yeah, speaking for the mods (I can't speak for every poster) Pundit and the Site really isn't something that takes up much of our attention. We simply don't care anymore.

Because the history might be useful for newer posters:

It's no secret that The Pub was set up partly because people were unhappy with how The Site was heading. But even then, the goal was never to "destroy Pundit", but simply to provide the kind of alternative Endless wanted to see.

Since then, we feel we've developed into our own thing. And TBP has its thing and the Site has its thing. Which is all good. We have posters who post on more than one forum and that's cool. There are also posters on the Site who frankly I think are much better suited to them than us. We don't see other forums as rivals.

Honestly, I wish people would post about RPGs rather than TBP and the Site. We're not the anti-net or the anti-site, we're the Pub.

But sometimes new arrivals need to vent a bit and we try not to be overly draconian in our moderation so we try to keep it contained in a thread or two.

That's as much as I've said about Pundit/the Site in years and I hope I have another five years before I have to again.

This sums it up for me. I don’t think much about them, I don’t go to them anymore outside of a notification or two. I took them off my tabs. They just don’t give me what I want anymore. Simple as that. I even had a “bad” experience inside the last year (you can read about it in those other places, I still chuckle about it).

I get that people have their bad experience and they come over here and we’re pretty nice and they got some healing to do. As I said earlier to the mods, it’s ok to declare your baggage when you walk in the door, but try and leave it at the door.

we got a common hobby. Let’s share in that

My actual wife scares even polar bears, so there's that.
Note that this is not a denial that he may be married to a polar bear..

Half polar bear children? Check
Wife scares polar bears? Check
Married after half polar bears produced making them at least temporarily bastards in some social viewpoints? UNKNOWN!!

Mrs. Fenris is a warm loving polar bear who dislikes other humans an will kill to protect her children. It's like a Disney fairytale
