How did you end up here?

Best Selling RPGs - Available Now @ DriveThruRPG.com
Just to make this clear to anyone new here, The Pub, as a whole, does not hold any antagonism towards RPGnet or want any rivalry with any other forum, we have posters that post here and those other places and we aren't looking to be an exclusive community or country club. More of an oasis....with a Tiki bar.

We allow folks to vent a bit in this thread specifically because it's often in the nature of why folks move from one forum to the next and sometimes getting stuff off of one's chest is the first step in adjusting to a change in venue, but we prefer to not give into cross-forum drama elsewhere on The Pub.

How did I end up here? Well, one gaming forum I was on for years has come to have dystopian-levels of fun-crushing moderation, and the alternative gaming forum I was directed to apparently doesn't have any regulations at all and has become a fun-crushing internet cesspool.

So now I've found this place. Not sure yet if it will be a good fit for me but I... Hang on:

Restarting my maps thread and having it turn into porn and a some poor furry getting kicked in the unmentionables isn't to blame, but it did give a certain insight into the way the Pub works. XD

...So, our threads can get turned into porn featuring furry nut-kicking here?!? SIGN. ME. UP.

Are you a god by profession and a magician by inclination?

So curiosity got the better of me and I had to check out the thread on RPG.net.

It's locked! Too bad because one of our own admins courteously stepped in to answer questions.

But wow, I think that RPG.net is the perfect place for some people, based on the comments there. I have heaps of mental/emotional baggage related to bullying, and I've felt more welcome here than anywhere else. The few times I had very toxic interactions, I either just put them on ignore, solving the problem immediately, or they were actually booted from here entirely by the community itself (I won't name names).

Ah well!

At the end of the day, all the RPG forums out there have their niche and generally it's a niche the Pub is neither able nor wants to fill.

The more the merrier as far as I'm concerned.

The issue only ever arises when people turn up here expecting to either change the culture to that of the forum they've come from or just don't adjust their own posting style at all. And that's pretty rare. Most people who post on more than one forum do so because they actively want the different experiences I think.

Wait are we talking online RPG forums or moving cities because I swear we used to have a columnist at The Times whos whole stick was ranting on people coming from somewhere else and saying why isn't this place like the place I just left!?!?!

Is God in show business too? :hehe:

IS THE PENIS EVIL?!

Well, just mine really, which has unfortunately limited the kind of gear I can equip on it. Darn alignment restrictions and all.

If only someone would come by to shoot death and purify the earth!

Hi, I've been lurking for a while reading posts and checking out the vibe here. I was looking for somewhere that wasn't Reddit to discuss RPGs. I've always preferred forums anyway. Checked out ENWorld and RPG.net first. Posted a bit on RPG.net after deciding it had a better quality of discourse. I still think it's got that, and there's great threads on there, but although I was never moderated myself the ridiculous hair trigger moderation just made me feel uncomfortable. I mean I broadly politically agree with the mods on a lot of stuff, but I'm fine with people holding other opinions. I don't want to be in an echo chamber where I never meet people with different views to me.

So I checked out the RPGsite or whatever, and nah, I'm not really down for what's going on there either. I was a bit downhearted then and was not sure what to do, so I googled around looking for suggestions and this site was suggested. Checked it out, and especially went to go read threads about the moderation, came to the conclusion that perhaps uniquely on the internet the mods here are not power hungry lunatics and decided to make an account. Also, the users here seem to actually be having fun rather than engaging in weirdly pious discourse or reveling in rage and anger.

Welcome to the madness Eternal Chump. One warning. Endless Flight Endless Flight is definitely not a lunatic however he is exceptionally power hungry. I heard just today that he is busy constructing a magnificent death ray machine on the moon and once finished he will dictate what us petty mortals must do to survive. I for one welcome our new overlord!

On a separate note I would encourage you to hate geese as we hate geese. This site is not friendly to geese sympathizers…
