If you click the link in my signature, you'll discover that my internet service provider has stopped providing that particular service. I need some web space and a url so I can put my files back up. What I want is to code the space in html and javascript, post the information to the space and have it show up as I have coded it. My budget is very small and I don't want a bunch of fancy tools like the godaddy free website foists on you. Any suggestions?

I've really enjoyed using Weebly, but it may be too bloggy for what you have in mind??

I think the big problem is that I want to mess around with html and javascript. I don't want the easy build options. Yes I'm lost in 2000 for some reason, but you don't learn things by not doing them and I want to learn these things.

Can you host it of a PC at home?

I'd have to get a static IP for that right?
There are dynamic DNS services that hook you up. Personally, I think finding a low-cost host if you have any tolerance for such things is the best option. I know some people swear by self-hosting, but I didn't like it.

You could look at AWS. It's cheap if you aren't storing a ton of files or using a ton of bandwidth. I think I have a website still running that cost $0.45 a month since I put it on low priority.

Don't use GoDaddy. I migrated even my registrations off of them years ago, and the only one I still have is because it would take a lot of effort to get my clients switched over to a new nameserver.

I understand I have a site up, but it needs an update, which to be fair I can't do on the scale I want without help.

Do you need it visible to anyone but you?

If you have the knowhow and time to run your own server.
A $5/month virtual server over att Linode should be enough for your needs. https://www.linode.com/pricing/
A domain address from one of the DNS providers. Perhaps https://www.namecheap.com/

Then secure the site with https if you need to for free with https://letsencrypt.org

How common is this in user agreements?

(iv) Restrictions. You agree that you shall not register or use a domain name that is deemed by CNNIC to:

(A) be against the basic principles prescribed in the Constitution of the Peoples Republic of China (PRC);

(B) jeopardize national security, leak state secrets, intend to overturn the government or disrupt the integrity of the PRC;

(C) harm national honour and national interests of the PRC;

(D) instigate hostility or discrimination between different nationalities or disrupt the national solidarity of the PRC;

(E) spread rumours, disturb public order or disrupt social stability of the PRC;

(F) spread pornography, obscenity, gambling, violence, homicide, terror or instigate crimes in the PRC;

(G) insult, libel against others and infringe other peoples legal rights and interests in the PRC; or

(H) take any other action prohibited in laws, rules and administrative regulations of the PRC.

Because I think that might just be a bridge too far.

Well, it's my telephone and internet service provider. But being censored by a foreign government? Seriously? Yeah, I may just change my telephone provider over this.

In the end, after looking at a lot of options, I went with Weebly. I'm waiting for the confirmation email. So, my website will be at uncouthsavage.com. But I'll probably start by getting the files for 21c+, Galaxies In Shadow, and The Arcane Confabulation up first.
