Just throwing some ideas here for a game about ninjas..
Setting: Japan Sengoku jidai/civil war period (1467 to 1600)
Premise: players are members of the Iga ninja clan struggling to survive amid the constant war around
Desirable feats:
- Tracking PCs ranks within the clan (chunin jonin etc)
- Clan offers ninja services to powerful samurai clans around
- Relationship with other factions tracked: samurai clans, rival ninja clans, fisher/merchant villages, Buddhist temples/ikko-ikki, Wakou pirates, etc.
- Classes based on speciality: infiltrator/arsoner, military scout, civil espionage, skirmisher, tactician, counter-espionage, etc.
- Family Backgrounds to complement classes: Jizamurai (poor samurai), ronin, merchant, bandit, etc
- Different missions invokving the group in distinct "mini-games" each: infiltrations; civil intel gathering; battle support/skirmishing; etc.
- Upgrades to the village: blacksmith? Defenses? Contact networks in the outside? Etc
- Some degree of focus on ninjutsu disciplines: Taijutsu (melee), Kama-jutsu (scite), Shurikenjutsu/Kunaijutsu, healing, climbing, disguise, etc.
- optional: mystic arts like Kotodama (magic in written words, like those Naruto paper slips that explode), Onmyo, nature spirits, etc.
- a central mechanic reflecting some personal value that's important to the theme but... what? Ninja didnt have to uphold face/giri right? Or did they? What kind of "code" did ninjas follow? What their societies value? There must be something... hmmm...
Help me out here!
