Alright, this is something I've been wanting to do for the past few weeks and I figured there's no time like the present to get it off the ground, so here goes!

I want to run a sandbox-style OD&D online campaign using the "Implied Setting" for OD&D as outlined on the Initiative One blog. I'll provide a link to the information of the Implied Setting below.

This will be a simple and easy open-ended campaign that will start out with just the core boxed set rules (the Three Little Brown Booklets) for the game, but as the game grows and progresses, I may add the additional materials from the other four supplements (Greyhawk, Blackmoor, Eldritch Wizardry, Gods Demigods & Heroes) and see where the game goes.

For now, we will have the main four races (Human, Dwarf, Elf, Hobbit) and three classes (Fighting Man, Magic-User, Cleric) as character options.

If you want to play a less traditional or more unconventional character, PM me the concept and I will see if I can work it into the game.

Character creation will be simple as rolling 3d6 in order for your ability scores.

I'm going to guess your saves are these:
Death Ray or Poison: 10
Wands: 11
Stone: 12
Dragon Breath: 13
Staves & Spells: 14

I say this because I rolled up a 1st level halfling and copied his saves

Gary Gygax made it very clear that Tolkien had virtually no influence on D&D, therefore the name "hobbit" for tiny people with furry feet is purely coincidental. :wink:
 
Edited Django Applebottom. Rolled hit points, bought some gear, chose a language due to Intelligence 11...do hobbits have their own language or just speak Common?

So what does "deadly accuracy with missiles as detailed in CHAINMAIL" mean for my hobbit? Anything I need to know?

Also, can hobbits see in the dark? The OD&D rules don't say anywhere that I could find. Any special abilities I need to note? Also, any particulars a hobbit should know in your world? Can my hobbit be a sailor...if so I'll lose the cross and buy some rope for knots...?

As for Chainmail, I would not worry about that stuff as I don't own Chainmail.

You might want to do something to consider deadly accuracy because it appears to be one of the major benefits to being a Hobbit/halfling as I read it.

All PC's can speak Common and their race's main language automatically.

I'll check the rules to see about knowing additional languages.

It's 1 additional language for every point over 10 Intelligence.

Do hobbits have a hobbit language as well? I don't really care either way, I just assumed they do as every race seems to have one.
 
Doc, how many players are you looking for in order to make this happen?

(I'm surprised by the dearth of responses so far. I rolled up and sketched my hobbit really fast to try to make sure I got a slot before they were all taken!)

I'm fascinated by my dwarf. Clearly he became a fighter because it was what was expected of him but he has a scholars soul.
 
My hobbit became a buccaneer because he got drunk in the wrong waterfront alehouse and was shanghaied. Or he's a liar just making :crap: up.

EDIT: Okay, done! I think I did his all correctly ... I could still buy some more equipment - I just stuck to weapons and armor for now - but I wanted to see what we really need first.

If this isn't going anywhere, that's fine, but I'd rather know sooner than later, so I know how to budget my time (including possibly signing up for other games). Thanks!

Eh, I'll let you take the helm on this one. Might be easier for me anyway. Due to real life distractions, I didn't have much written down in advance.

You can DM and I can play, and then I can run the next one. Or vice versa. Whichever you prefer.
 
Well, first we should see what Bunch Bunch and TheophilusCarter TheophilusCarter want, as they didn't sign up for me to run a game. If Doc Sammy Doc Sammy wants to roll up a PC and they are still into it, I could probably get things started as early as tomorrow evening. But I don't want to force myself on anybody.
