So the PCs are about to encounter a local holiday called Vonker's Day, which is quite similar to the Valentine's Day we have here on Earth. When one of the locals explains it to them, they will be told it's "a celebration of love, sex, flowers, chocolate, and [thing x]," where [thing x] = something that has nothing at all to do with our Valentine's Day & is completely absurd when paired with the other four things.

Any suggestions for what [thing x] should be?

The problem is that everything can be categorized as symbolically sex, death, or both if you do some Freud to it. So death it is.

Love, sex, flowers, chocolate, and the martyrdom of St. Pessia, patron saint of those wrongfully accused of killing their neighbor's animals.

The dimension the PCs are currently visiting and/or trapped in is a low tech pseudo-medieval fantasy land.

Most of the PCs are from the modern day.

...Human Sacrifice.

Everyone in town has a huge celebration of passing flowers around while stuffing their face with chocolate, followed by a huge orgy that ends with the high priest selecting a lucky couple, then taking them to the middle of town square, doing a huge ritual and slicing their throats with a golden dagger or something and collecting their blood in a bowl as an offering to the gods.

Well, that's simple. Love, sex, flowers, chocolate ... and soapmaking.

Introduce those poor bastards to a half-day of low-tech soapmaking, and they'll be raring to take on dragons and chaos monsters.
