I've been searching for variant MTG rules that attempt to recreate the "campaign mode" of the 90s MTG videogame set in Shandalar. You know, you start with a shitty deck, you wander a world map beating weak wizards up to steal their cards and gold, you venture into dungeons, you have random encounters for good or ill, and you gradually build a deck strong enough to challenge a final boss.

I can't believe this doesn't already exist. Surely it's out there somewhere and I just don't know the right search terms to uncover it?

That sounds cool but I've never seen it. There are other, non-mtg, video games and that vein, though - card based, rpg, deck grows.
