Major selling point: it's a coop card game in the vein of all their others (presumably), but it's complete with one core box! None of this buy multiple sets with increased redundancy of NPC cards just to play the thing! Excelsior.

Interesting, supposed according to posters over on BGG this isn’t the end of Upper Deck’s Legendary series either although I have to think that game has pretty much run its course.

Admittedly, Legendary is my favorite game, but: They still have a ton more room to add on, if they want to make the cards. And given how they haven't been shy about deep dives into Marvel canon, they can keep going for years.

And it's not just posters over at BGG that said it, it was one of Upper Deck's reps.

I was apprehensive about this, but I watched a playthrough Team Covenant recorded. It looks fun. Won't replace Legendary for me, but I'll at least get the core set and see how it plays for myself.

I think I have everything published (aside from any promos) for Legendary. In fact I think the only Legendary or Legendary Encounters game I don’t have is Buffy. My favorite Marvel expansion for Legendary has to Villians, it just adds a near dynamic between the players.

That said I too will buy Champions, I know the core is supposed to be complete but I just hope they don’t flood the market with the expansions faster than I can buy them! I’ve tried to keep up with FFG a couple times (Descent 2E, Imperial Assault, the newer Arkham Horror card game) and I always seem to fall behind...

Nice! Another Legendary player! Buffy is the only other one I play with any regularity (fan of the license). I don't even look at the Legendary sets in terms of expansions anymore, as everything is mixed together for completely random set-ups.

They are already promising monthly expansions for Marvel Champions, as is their way. I love the Lord of the Rings card game, but I got in so late that sets were routinely out of stock. One upside of Marvel Champions is that it will apparently be less storybased and more of a modular set-up ala Legendary, so you're not literally missing the next step in a narrative if a set is temporarily out of print.

I was already in the Army by the time the Buffy movie came out (I remember seeing it at the base theater) and didn’t watch much TV during the ‘90’s so I missed the show. I’ve seen episodes of it and Angel so I get the appeal. Who knows, I may pick it up anyway if only as a gateway game for Buffy fans. (That is really an excuse for my completionist tendencies)

What I'm wondering is whether FFG may be considering doing a new Marvel RPG soon too.

It sounds like an FFG take on Sentinels of the Multiverse, which I unite like (But I play the electronic version, because handling all those decks looks like a lot of busywork). Could be good.

That's more what it seems to be than the campaign style from Arkham Horror, which is probably for the best as AH is fiddly as fuck and has an awful resolution system.

I'd be interested to see the extent of their license with Marvel. I'm susprised this project doesn't use the Star Wars license as they were going to do a coop star wars ccg before Arkham Horror but it turned into the competitive game, and that no longer exists.

A Genesys System Marvel RPG would make me so sad.
I'm not sure that's where they are headed with Genesys. They seem to be putting out only stuff for their own properties. It's possible they might do an Arkham Files game. But I don't see a Marvel license in the works. It's possible though. They are doing Keyforge! Which is delightfully bonkers as I'm not entirely sure what the background for that is anyway.

As far as I can tell this is the only Marvel product they have planned.

SotM is still my favorite supers game, probably because the characters all feel different and you are playing them as individuals as opposed to Legendary. It is a little fiddly if you are playing solo with say four heroes but it is still not as bad as some games.

I actually bought Sentinels, Legendary and DC on the same day. DC barely gets played. Sentinels felt like grindy torture porn to me after an expansion or so (I like a challenge, but c’mon).

I’ve now logged more time with Legendary than literally any game I own.

The may decide that's a thing, if they think making an rpg at all is worth it. What would be preferable to me is if they were to republish the original Marvel Supers RPG (TSR), with a facelift into full colour presentation. They did republish the original WEG Star Wars rules after all….

There’s a negative to that. I know that the scans of TSR’s Marvel Super Heroes are supposedly public domain which is why they are available on multiple sites stating they are legal. I’m still dubious of that claim but I have no doubt if the game was republished those sites would get cease and desist notices like the Star Frontiers sites got. Since those sites have EVERYTHING on them and there is no way FFG would republish everything I’d rather leave sleeping dogs (or mice in this case) lie...
