So one of the folks I've gamed with for several years(in a long term MERP campaign, some Warhammer Fantasy, Unknown Armies, and actually the first player in my Phaserip Call of Cthulhu games back in 2010 I think; moreover I think I met 90% of my current gaming group through him), who happens to be a voice actor, has started his own RPG web series.

The twist? It's just him solo roleplaying with the Mythic GM Emulator. Trevor's been doing this for a while actually (not on camera). He introduced me to the Mythic GM Emulator shortly after we started gaming. I never really got into it myself, but he's a very busy guy, so it's how he sort of gets his fix, especially as he's out of the country for most of the year these days.

Anyways, here's Trevor...

Trevor's a great player, really gets into the game. He also GMed the best Savage Worlds game I ever played in, a SciFi prison break where I played a character based on Captain Sterne from Heavy Metal. I maxed out my Influence ability, and the part where I yelled out "The Butler Did It!" to the gaurds when the valet of the warden we'd just murdered tried to get away from us had us literally ROFLing.

Episode 2 was even better than Episode 1. I’m riveted so far. He’s the best salesman I’ve ever seen for the Mythic Emulator as well.

Thanks for putting this up. I've been curious about the GM emulator for quite awhile

Honestly I envy Trevor's ability to entertain himself. Of course he's hamming it up a bit for the camera, IRL he's not quite so frenetic, still I honestly don't think I could be entertained sitting there doing what he's doing, but it's incredibly entertaining to watch him do it.

The GM emulator is system, setting and genre agnostic, right?

Yeah, the engine by itself is neutral. Trevor is drawing on a bunch of different supplements from various gamelines to supplement it, which is neat. I'm curious about that NPC emulator book, never heard of it before.

This is what he used:

Never seen it before he used it.

I didn't think I'd ever seen it before either, but when I followed your link to look at it, I was greeted with this...

Huh. I guess I should probably read it.
Sadly I get that more often than I care to admit. It's important to check Drivethrurpg in desktop mode from a mobile device because they don't show that in Mobile mode. And you can purchase something twice in Mobile mode.

Looking at that just brought to mind those old "Central Casting" books of the late 80s, haven't seen those in years.
I love my 1st edition copy. It's given me some really interesting NPCs when I went to the trouble of rolling through all of the tables. That's the one hangup I have with it, it's much too time consuming to use it for anything but a major NPC. I finally broke down and coded up all of the tables into an inspiration pad pro generator so I could get an NPC with a single button push.

I think I picked all these up during a recent bundle of holding

Really? Do you have a link? I've never seen a legal PDF copy of either the 1st or 2nd ed of Heroes of Legend available for purchase.

I love the Central Casting book. I had all three and they're responsible for some of my more colorful PCs and NPCs. The NPC emulator looks intriguing too and feeds into my wacky dream of running a 'sandbox' campaign that's completely randomly generated LOL

On that note, could the GM emulator also act as a GM's aid? Like when you're really stuck or looking for inspiration?

Seems like it would to me. Based on the videos, it looks it gives results quickly enough that you won't keep your players hanging. I can see the yes or no table being handy for establishing things that you didn't prep without being completely arbitrary.

There’s a deck of cards available that you can use instead of the book. Might be better than page-flipping for certain people.

I’m thinking of buying. $23 for a deck with box.

Yes. It was stated explicitly the product description back when I purchased it.

Also it seems like I've purchased the UNE before it got a revised edition.

I have the deck, it's pretty nice. And comes with the best tuckbox for the cards I have ever seen (from a utility standpoint, no lie).

I agree, that guy has an career alternative if he gets tired of voice acting.

Glad to hear that. I ordered that on impulse this morning. I have been running an Unknown Armies game with almost no prep, and this looks like a good improv tool.
I think his giddiness when rolling all those raises got to me.
That's a big part of it. It's a game where even the process of the mechanics is fun in of itself. The workload is also very easy on the GM.

I keep thinking the Emulator would work best with supers games but I haven’t done any testing yet.

First game I tried it with was Marvel SAGA (in part because I knew it so well I didn't have to worry about stumbling with the system).

Selling RPGs? Actually that made me laugh out loud because Trevor was, 10 years ago, such a closet gamer. I remember during a break at a game at his place we went across the street to a coffeeshop and while standing in line we were discussing Harn's background, and this girl in front of us in line turns and asks what we're talking about and Trevor turned beet red and sorta stammered trying to come up with any explanation besides "RPG". The incident stuck in my mind because I've never had one ounce of embarrassment about my hobbies, and thus found it endlessly amusing. I was holding back laughter about how uncomfortable he was.

The funny thing is that, in my experience, if a girl is asking you about the geeky thing you are talking about, it's usually because she is into geeky things. If she thinks you are a couple of pathetic dweebs, she probably isn't going to try starting a conversation with you.

I'm glad he's gotten over it. I'm finding these videos inspiring.

I would say that many of you should really read the Mythic RPG itself.
