Modern games like Populous?

Yesterday I got together with friends and we played a board game with hat I backed on Kickstarter called Elements of the Gods. After a few plays, this is definitely my favorites KS game I’ve backed. I say this having lost every game we played. So much fun with feels similar to Five Tribes but still different.



To the point, boardman! The game made me think about Poplulous, which I used to thoroughly enjoy before the starting digit of the year was a 2.

Does anyone know of “modernish” games on PC or console that are similar to Populous?

Possibly, although no direct descendents I know of. But something like Rimworld might suit.
