Mork Borg even got JMal to revive Grognardia after how long (?) of a break to post a review. I wonder if this means he'll return to semi-regular posting again.

I'm honestly happy he is writing again. I did take a look on the Blue Hall of Illumination and was surprised to see him on the podcast and behind the Excellent Travelling Volume zine, and always wondered why he wasn't putting up articles on grognardia anymore. And was just surprised as everyone else when my blog feed showed a new article.

James went on an eight year hiatus. Too bad he doesn't allow new comments. I don't think there would be many people slagging him.

I'm not so sure. First comments at one of the other forums was some butt hurt about the infamous kickstarter and how his first post should have been some kind of apology. I can totally get why he'd be gun shy with opening the site for comments.

I for one would be happy to see new regular content at grognardia. I'm not remotely a fan of Morg Borg (I deeply, desperately hate the visual style so many people seem to love), but whatever.

Comments sections on blogs are rarely a good place for thoughtful discussion anyway. It is usually either bots posting nonsense, a bunch of yes men patting each other on the back or a cesspool of trolls grinding axes.

That's pretty exciting. The real question though is how many effing fonts do I need to match the look of the rule book...

I'm going to start messing about with some layouts tonight I think.

If you want your game to look like a death metal 'zine, I suppose, although I get the impression that was sort of the idea with Mörk Borg.

I bought the game as much for the art and design as i did for the rules.

I sort of wish they would release a free no-art version of the rules so that I could study them without the distractions of the crazyass artwork. The game has it's intriguing elements based on reviews and comments I've seen, but I can't really decide if I would actually play it until I can get a handle on what "it" really is. The artwork is definitely unusual.

EDIT: I see that if I follow the link in Voros' post, there is a license page. On the right hand side of that is a "content" link that does give some non-art pages to peek at. Basic rules and such.

A lot of Feretory is available on the Mork Borg site as community content, so that should give you a good idea of what to expect.

I personally see the artwork as integral to the game, its tone, and playstyle. Its informs how to use the rules, how to fill the gaps in the adventures, and how to bring all the crazy random table results together as a whole. If you strip that out, you will end up with a OSR D&D ruleset variant similar to Black Hack.

I got the PDF, initially skeptical of the presentation. But I'm happy to say that I found the text quite readable (with the exception of the page with neon pink on yellow). Otherwise I found it far more legible and well laid-out than some other books in the genre.

Really nice book. I'd buy a hard copy, if I got the chance at a reasonable price. Super cool stuff.

And it tickles my Metal music tendencies.

Don't think, just buy the hard copy. I buy vanishingly few books in hard copy, but I've never had any reason to regret shelling out for MB. Just do it!

Yeah just waiting for it to show up on Amazon.ca again so I can get it without paying crazy extra for shipping. I showed it to my wife who isn't really a gamer, and she was impressed by the style.

For what it's worth, I don't really care too much about the system itself (I've got so many OSR-inspired games, like Black Hack, White Hack, Into the Odd etc...) but because it is so EASY to use with those other systems, it is on my radar.

I find the monsters, dungeons, tools, etc. more engaging than the system. Nothing the matter with the system though.

I was into doom metal back in the day: does anyone know how the game connects to doom metal (is it in the aesthetics or is there some other tie in to it?)

Well, there’s a location that strongly reminds me of a themed Candlemass album called King of the Grey Islands...

Ha! Ordered it on Amazon.ca. Will be back in stock Nov 2. 45$ CAD (free shipping) isn't too bad, actually.
I"m planning on doing the same thing just trying to not buy anything til the upcoming move is completed mid-Nov.

Has anyone here played, and have a review of it?

I personally don't have any OSR in my RPG collection but something about this calls to me, even though I'm not a metal fan.

I haven't played the game yet, but I've mined it for ideas (both thematically and practically, using the provided random tables).

Even if you don't listen to metal music it is still a compelling resource. For what it's worth, from the list of "inspirational" bands listed in the book, I'm only familiar with a handful and actively dislike several of them. But I still like the material.

I have ran it and it was loads of fun. There is not much more to say to be honest, given the amount already being said about it across the internet. It is exactly what it appears to be from its art and KS pages.

Just got the hard copy in the mail. Wow is it gorgeous!

I really want to run this.

I feel like I want to include highlights from Frostbitten and Mutilated*

* which I purchased this book long before the whole controversy and meltdown of the author, so please don't judge me.
