More adventures in cocktailerie

I'm a pretty big rye whiskey fan. I've been known to drink it straight, if it's of a decent quality. I also enjoy a good Old Fashioned cocktail, made with rye, of course. As long as it's not too sweet. Although tonight I'm drinking brandy. Possibly more than I should have.

Now I need a mocktail for my pre-teen great-nephews. I was thinking of shaking grenadine and lime juice on ice, straining over rocks, and topping up with cola. But I don't have any maraschino cherries, and don't think I can get them in time.
I ended up garnishing these with a mandarin wheel, and they went over very well. My niece even said that she would happily drink them herself.

  • 1 Campari
  • 2 London dry gin
  • 2 sweet vermouth (temporarily bereft of Rosso Antico, I used Czinzano Rosso and took no harm)
  • 2 freshly-squeezed juice of Valecia oranges (which are a little tart)
  • 1/2 pinch of salt
Stir on ice. Strain into old fashioned glass. Garnish with an orange wheel. Drink with savoury and cheesy snacks.
