""Husky retired from Antarctic work" they said, WTF is this thing I came downstairs to? And where is my wife?"
Pentapods are seriously underused as villains or campaign big bads in 2300AD. You're really going to buy a bunch of bioengineered... stuff... from an alien species you know nothing about? And stick it in your eyes, ears, mouth...?
The Pentapod SCUBA mask breathes air from the water, and shoves a tube down your throat to feed you "oxygen". I saw a film like that once, and it didn't end well...
My god it's full of stars!![]()
This is the Hubble Extreme Deep Field image, taken in 2012. There are over 5500 galaxies in this picture, which comprises just 1/32000000 of the total observable sky.
Kudos, man. I liked "Nightfall" as well when I was a kid...My god it's full of stars!
That was a reference to 2001: A Space Odyssey. I don't know what Nightfall is.Kudos, man. I liked "Nightfall" as well when I was a kid...![]()
Oh I do know that one! I've yet to read it yet as my father basically told me the whole thing when I was younger.

I worked for a while at a school district whose food service offices and warehouse were at a decommissioned ICBM launch site.Pic taken from an old Nike site. Thats Nike as in "nuke an entire incomming bomber squadron and escorts in one shot" site.

It was the '70s, I'm pretty sure drugs were involved.

I've always wanted to work in a decommissioned missile silo.I worked for a while at a school district whose food service offices and warehouse were at a decommissioned ICBM launch site.
I worked at a hospital which was built shortly after WWII, and originally the nurses were from an order of nuns who lived on site. It switched over to paid professional nurses before I started there, and the building that was originally put up for them to live in was turned into cramped little offices. Those nuns weren't into luxurious living. There was a time after that when the basement was used as a morgue, but that was moved to its own building before my time as well.
You know, I believe in very little actual supernatural stuff. But stories like these make me wish I'd pursued a career into scientific investigation of such things--not silly ghost hunting shows, but finding out the exact, real world cause for stuff like this. I know they discovered one location everyone saw some kind of hooded monk--and it turned out to be wind, that when it passed into/through an area responded with a certain frequency of sound that caused hallucinations. Which is a real world cause for a seemingly supernatural thing. However, my goal would be to find out the truth with as much actual science as possible.I worked at a hospital which was built shortly after WWII, and originally the nurses were from an order of nuns who lived on site. I worked IT helpdesk, which meant that there were nights when I was on desk until 1 AM, all by myself. On those nights I heard doors and windows open and close in the building's other wings all night long.
The first night it happened, I commented to my manager the next day that the night guards took a long time to make their rounds, because you wouldn't expect it to take four hours. He gave me an odd look and told me that there were no night guards, I was the only living thing on site after business hours*. Kind of wish he hadn't put it like that.
It happened again the next night and every night after that, but I never saw anything and I needed the job, so I just kept my head down and pretended to be deaf.
*In that building. Buildings with overnight patients obviously contained living things.
Infrasound vibrating ocular nerves is a common theory for ghost sightings. Doubly related, here's a picture of infrasound monitors in Greenland that reminds me of Simon Stålenhag art:You know, I believe in very little actual supernatural stuff. Looks a bit like someone playing Cataan in real life! This would inspire a Temple base chronicle or a society with a very different style of architecture and many boats.

Someone needs to write a novel with each of these characters in it, and at least a chapter devoted to their point of view.View attachment 49294
And it even comes with counter art (for all the hex-based tactical combat).

I take it that's close to the general idea, though there are many ways one could be inspired by the image.Someone needs to write a novel with each of these characters in it, and at least a chapter devoted to their point of view.
YES! You win a gold star!Tom Gauld ?
