I assure you, my appreciation for humor is deadly serious.... I'm not entirely sure people are taking this seriously.

I genuinely took more inspiration from THAT image than I did most of the 'fancy' full color cover art... it's vague, a bit clunky and leaves a whole lot more to the imagination. And this is my favourite (AKA The Best) d&d artwork, ever, bar none. It wasn't a cover, but it should have been.

It's the image that resonated for me as a kid and fledgeling DM. There's always method in my total lack of respect for the rules!I genuinely took more inspiration from THAT image than I did most of the 'fancy' full color cover art... it's vague, a bit clunky and leaves a whole lot more to the imagination.
Can't find any good images I can upload so have a link instead:

Almost all of Dragon and Dungeon Magazines. How many covers are left anyway (that I can remember or care about)? I could post Birthright or a Ravenloft up there, to be one of the cool "cover" kids, with their rules. What's inside the book is what matters. And this is my favourite (AKA The Best) d&d artwork, ever, bar none. It wasn't a cover, but it should have been.

Then knock yourselves out! The mags were never my scene.Almost all of Dragon and Dungeon Magazines.
I loved Willingham's stuff, definitely underappreciated.

1E Monster Manual for a SuccubusI'll admit, I have no idea where that's from. Nipples are a plus though, for sure.

Ahh, 1E disregard for propriety. My patron Slaanesh approves.1E Monster Manual for a Succubus
Duh, Bast is from Deities and Demigods, also 1E1E Monster Manual for a Succubus
When I replied there was only the only sexy-furry pic.Cat head is Bast from Deities and Demigods. Other one is the succubus from Monster Manual.
I’m a fan of WFRP 1E as well…Ahh, 1E disregard for propriety. My patron Slaanesh approves.
My first upload had a fuzzy succubus so I deleted the pic and retook the pic. When I replied there was only the only sexy-furry pic.
You and your attention to detail. Jesus. My first upload had a fuzzy succubus so I deleted the pic and retook the pic.
My favourite too.Not sure if this is cheating as it is a Dragon cover but it is the first one that came instantly to mind.

There's also tons of modules, supplements and setting stuff that hasn't been posted yet. More if we include the novels.
Couldn't find a good quality pic of this one, but the original art was awesome. Technically cheating, since I already posted, though. But since we're already down that path...
If non-covers are allowed, I might have went with this one.
Not covers.Really? Nobody?
There's a DCC adventure based on that illustration... but I've yet to read/play it.If non-covers are allowed, I might have went with this one.

(although I don't know how many DMs from the TSR era would have allowed a spellcaster to get off a spell while riding a horse)
I read "cover" in the OP, but by the time I got deep into the thread, I forgot ...Doh! Covers! I missed that!
Only the strongest can survive the harsh world of Athas.Sheesh the female muscularity there is something rarely seen in AD&D art.
And if Rule 34 holds true ...Only the strongest can survive the harsh world of Athas.
To imagine otherwise would be an abysmal want of imagination. And if Rule 34 holds true ...
Sheesh the female muscularity there is something rarely seen in AD&D art.
looks like folks have moved on from just covers, in which case I present my single favourite piece of art in any D&D product
(in this case the AD&D 2nd edtion Complete Bards Handbook):

This was my favorite pic from that book. Been a while since I've seen it.
