One of my other major influences was Biggles.

Specifically, Biggles Charter Pilot. Less concerned with the machinations of the enemy, BCP was about Biggle's team being retained by an eccentric scientist who wanted to look at oddities around the globe.

"This book contains 16 short stories all of which are unusual in that they consist of Ginger telling his comrades in 666 (Fighter) Squadron of his adventures with Biggles when they were chartered by Dr. Augustus Duck (nicknamed "Donald") to take him to investigate various strange phenomena."

I – THE ADVENTURE OF THE ENCHANTED ISLAND
II – THE ADVENTURE OF THE ABOMINABLE CAVEMAN
III – THE ADVENTURE OF THE HORTICULTURAL HERMITS
IV – THE ADVENTURE OF THE CROONING CROCODILE
V – THE ADVENTURE OF THE OXIDIZED GROTTO
VI – THE ADVENTURE OF THE PURPLE CLOUD
VII – THE ADVENTURE OF THE PATAGONIAN GIANTS
VIII – THE ADVENTURE OF THE MUSTY MAMMOTH
IX – THE ADVENTURE OF THE LUMINOUS LILY
X – THE ADVENTURE OF THE SUSPICIOUS VOLCANO
XI – THE ADVENTURE OF THE HAUNTED CREEK
XII – THE ADVENTURE OF THE GOLDEN SHIRTS
XIII – THE ADVENTURE OF THE INQUISITIVE DODOS
XIV – THE ADVENTURE OF THE COUNTERFEIT CRUSADERS
XV – THE ADVENTURE OF THE GREEN HORSE
XVI – THE ADVENTURE OF THE SILENT DEATH

This sounds like a great setup for a Pulp Adventure game.

Jess Nevins' Spirit of the Century supplement Strange Tales of the Century would be another good resource for worldwide pulpy weirdness.
