Now you ask? The previous avatar was flipping you off for over two years, and you didn't question it!
I wasn't square in the crosshairs of your previous avatar. You were flipping off someone to my right. All the people I respect the least are over there.

I went to the eye doctor after a year. It was nice not having to go all the time. For those of you who haven’t been around since the beginning, I’ve had both retinas detach and have had cataract surgery in both eyes in the last four years. My eyes are 20/20 and he said my retinas look good. My pressure is a little high (about 25 in both eyes) so I’m doing some kind of test in six months when I go back. It’s nice to get good news.
I hear you can smoke dope for that.

Had to work a four hour shift Thursday night, which is my the first night of my weekend. This after staying over an hour after my shift that morning, trying to do some detective work for our client. Kind of threw off my sleep schedule. Plus I had to go inside the fabrication facility (which meant putting on one of those damn bunny suits) for the second time in a row, in order to place a fire extinguisher in a room that was missing one. I'm pretty sure the first time I tried I hurt my back, so doing it again didn't help.

Pretty pissed at my best friend right now. By his own account, he used to be a selfish asshole. Dude, sometimes you still are. I asked him if he would switch Sundays with me so I could go to Seattle for my dad's 74th birthday. He said no, with his only fuckin' justification being that he "doesn't want to work two Sundays in row." Dude, you see your dad every weekend. I haven't seen mine for nearly two years.

(Yes, I am working on finding another solution to get that weekend off).

Hey man, I am really sorry your friend was a selfish asshole and didn't pull through for you. Looking on the bright side, I can appreciate his honesty and bluntness. Most people would just lie to you (and maybe even themselves) about their selfishness and feed you a bullshit excuse which, in my opinion, is even worse behavior.

True. I do appreciate honesty.

And by tomorrow, I'll probably be over being mad at him, but this just happened about an hour ago.

Might be of use to anyone in the U.S. looking for available appointments.

Thanks! This is a great tool.

Unfortunately, it still shows 'no appointments available' within 25 miles for me. But it's easier than checking drugstores chain by chain.

I just had the first shot of the AstraZenca vaccination, got a little lethargic last night, but that was it.
I'll be getting the booster next month, then that's it - hopefully vaccinated by April/May.

Latest study says AstraZenca is 79% effective, so here's hoping.

As a BRP player, I'm used to rolling percentile dice, and that's not a bad chance. In RQ terms, it probably adds at least +5 to my CON rolls on the Resistance Table. In Mythras terms, this should facilitate my Endurance rolls at an Easy (+20%), or hopefully, a Very Easy (+40%) chance against contracting/surviving COVID 19.

I'll let you know if there are any dramatic adverse effects, such as if I grow a third nimple or something.
If so, I guess there is always a role for a new Francisco Scaramanga if they want to reboot a Bond villain!

At least we are seeing these vaccination roll-outs reasonably early, there is some hope that we might get thru this without a world-wide economic depression

Stay healthy everyone

I've had a bizarre experience. Yesterday on Reddit there was a thread about national stereotypes, and one poster took the opportunity to lecture about the harm of them. I poked him a bit to see if he would engage with the premise, and I think I'm guilty of failing to read the room because I made a joke that would have gone down okay here and it sank like a lead balloon.

Our lecturing Redditor screenshotted our back-and-forth and posted it without context in another subforum. While I was asleep I was the subject of a two-minute hate and then they just... forgot about me and went on with their lives? It feels like like I was distracted and failed to notice the mob storming the castle and burning it down around me.

I wonder what Andy Warhol would make of all this.

Was it about doing inappropriate things to sheep?

Keeping it vague to avoid being political, it was a thread making fun of stereotypes. When my nemesis posted, I asked him if he was part of a group stereotyped for policing how other people have fun.

The most inappropriate thing I've done with sheep is serve them without mint sauce.

Thays hilariously funny. Also, hang your head in shame for the lack of mint sauce. Unless it was a curry. Lamb rogan josh is allowed.

Imagines camel dressed as a waiter, serving some sheep. One of the sheep yells, "Oi, mate! where's the mint sauce!"
"Bloody ungulates."
"Er... but you're an ungulate too?"
"That's why it's not racist for me to say it!"

David Johansen David Johansen I'm a bit late, but my thoughts go out to you and your family during this challenging time with your son
Thanks for that. He's doing better, the new medication makes him sleep a lot more but I think it's getting better as he gets used to it. The hard thing now is deciding how to engage with social services.

So my mum had been sinking into dementia for some years now, which I've accomodated myself to. I also don't,to be honest and for very good reasons, like her very much. However, I phoned her today, becuase she texted me on my birthday, and shes just ... fucking gone. She's not there any more. I'm more than a little conflicted.

Reddit — even the ostensibly supportive or feel-good subreddits — is a fucking cesspit. It’s a *chan with a thin veneer of corporate bullshit.

This can be any of our parents from here on in, and I have no idea how I would be coping either.
Life is a grand thing, but it also truly sucks at times

My thoughts go out to you mate.

A lot of us are getting to the age where that's a problem we have to deal with. My Dad does okay when he's in his own familiar environment but he's slowed down a lot and it's astonishing that he isn't the number one cause of car accidents in Alberta.

My dad is slowly losing his memory. He doesn't see it I don't think. I've seen it and commented about it to my mom who appreciated the info since she too felt something was going on but she was so close she couldn't be sure. Part of the problem is he's always had a tendency to sell the same joke/story over and over.
He's in his 80's and still doing engineering which concerns me a bit but that doesn't seem to be the part of his memory impacted. I'm not going to enjoy seeing him slide downhill. Mom seems to be good as ever.

Memory disorders usually afflict short-term memory first and old memories are often spared until late in the course of illness. You might want to persuade him to visit a physician and be evaluated.

Yeah I might do that. I just got off the phone with a friend who's mom he just put in a home. He talks about how his mom can remember me but can't remember his daughters. It sucks. Not something I'm looking forward to with my dad.

Mom will be more proactive. She'll take up smoking.

In really good news, I will in, in fact be able to go home for my dad's 74th birthday (again, as long as nothing goes wrong with vaccine logistics and I really do get my second dose on 6th April like I'm supposed to). Not only that, I will be able to stay through Mother's Day, which quite conveniently falls on the following weekend!!

In more complicated news, my brother has a truckload of health issues, and last night he admitted to himself and my parents that he is no longer able to live independently. It's a bummer that that's the case, but it's really good that he's able to admit he needs help and I know my parents will be very proactive in seeking help.

I'm not an "it's all going to turn out okay" person, because sometimes things don't turn out okay, but in this case, it seems likely that things will turn out better than they currently are.
