Hate to be That Guy but as you’ve realized — they are not your pets, or anyone’s pets. They are wild animals that can attack and carry disease. I don’t know if I’d entertain them as guests inside the house.

Yup, doesn't mean I don't care for them.

I don’t really see myself beside anyone other than Mrs. The Butcher until the end of my days, but I’m pretty sure I’d be unable to stand more than a few minutes with a woman under 30, maybe 35. I have a bunch of female residents all on their mid-to-late twenties and they are grating.

lol, I said a bit younger, not young enough to be my daughter/

What’s a little leptospirosis between friends?

That’s because you’re listening to them. Hasn’t marriage taught you anything?

I'm with you here. At this point if Mrs. Bunch passed away and I felt the need for female companionship I'd stay in GenX. She's seven years younger and that already has some background gaps that annoy me (why the hell can't the kids walk to school? I walked down a 45mph main arterial to kindergarten). Trying to deal with someone younger than that would be more trouble than it's worth.

I couldn’t deal with living in a place that had laws preventing kids walking to school. Them getting into your car during the time when every other parent is driving their kids to school and going to work is far more dangerous than them walking.

Same. Mrs. Raleel and I have discussed this, and she would want me to find someone else, but she knows damn well it would just not be worth it. I have one under 35 female friends snd she and I are close, but she’s a sister from another mister. Get younger and I just don’t know how to relate. And holy shit, the dating scene (as portrayed by said friend) makes FATAL look like a relationship guide.

figure the coming up on 24 years of marriage and 32 together is a lot of investment at this point

So, there's no non-awkward way to drop this into conversation: my big brother's doctors estimate that he has one to two years left to live. Found out about a week ago and I've been a bit fucked up by it ever since. I've yet to tell any of my face-to-face friends, but apparently I'm comfortable telling my internet friends?

In life in general, I tend to focus on practical things (hence why I have barely above zero time for threads arguing about this playstyle vs. that playstyle, but will happily engage with threads that amount to practical tips for running games), so I'm trying to just, like, prioritize spending my vacation days on trips back to WA to see big bro, rather than, like, being preemptively sad about him dying, when he's not dead yet.

I guess that's all I have to say about it for now. Love you guys, gals, and non-binaries. Hope you're having a good night.

And ya know, sometimes doctors are wrong... our great-grandma lived thirty fuckin' years past when she was "supposed" to die. Hope big bro is the same, but I'm not betting on it.

BTW, whenever I call him "big bro" he points out that he is the "older, shorter, fat brother" and I am the "younger, taller brother." But also kinda fat these days, lol.

I work in the medical field with doctors. They're wrong a LOT. Hang tough, brother.

My brother is the "little brother" I'm almost a foot taller, about about 150lbs larger. I'm the Ghengis Khan to his Bruce Lee - everyone thinks I'm the older brother heh, but he's 5-years older than me.

Hang in there, man. FWIW I hope they’re wrong. Enjoy every minute you can spend with him — if he lives, which hopefully he will, you’ll still have had a ton of fun. Take care.

Keep your chin up, man. Less than a year ago my sister was in a coma and her case was declared hopeless. My family made one last visit before she was taken off life support. That evening she regained consciousness. It was declared a "medical miracle!" etc to cover their ass.

Obviously I am not saying doctors are all incompetent boobs but even highly trained and experienced professionals make errors in judgement.

My mom was a nurse for many years. She has always said that doctors make a lot of guesses and will look in their medical books if they don't know something. I have been to doctors multiple times for ailments only to be told "I don't know" and sent home.

I've had three PCP over 48 years. My first doctor I saw until I was 18. The second until I was 28. The last since then. I should go to them more. I've been to the eye doctors more times since 2017 than I've been to the PCP my whole life.

Doctors are troubleshooters of an extremely complex system, and some of it is based on knowing certain effects without really understanding the cause. A lot of diagnoses are pattern matching against statistics looking for the most likely match. There’s no way to tell how long your brother will live, their estimate is based on other cases with similar symptoms. The important thing is staying positive and getting as much quality time with your brother as you can.

For months a strange chemical smell that burns my eyes has been assaulting my senses at all hours of the day and night. No joke, I was thinking a meth lab was venting their toxic gases all this time but I found out the answer is far more mundane. My neighbor is building something huge in his back yard and using noxious chemicals to treat the wood. He's out there with zero protection just slapping the shit on without a care in the world. What a tool. This guy also does things like using power tools and a leaf blower in the early AM. When I confront him about this behavior he pulls the "I don't speak English" bit and unfortunately it ain't Spanish or I could muddle my way through it.

I'm not gonna tell you what to do. Not that anyone really listens to me anyway. But they are only going to get bolder and bolder. It will lead to a situation. One that your not gonna be happy about. You, they, or important property will be damaged.

Right now I'm just worried about confirmation they are still alive.

... and just like that, I discovered I had a burst hot-water pipe heating up my patio.... FLARRRGHGHHH!!!...

Sucker is going to require jackhammering and digging over 3ft down to get to the pipe, much less figure out where along the line it broke.

There goes all my newly acquired gold. Life giveth and taketh.... This simulation is really starting to get on my nerves.

Well, when they say they 'practice' medicine, we should believe them!

Every day I have to commute on the Freeway to work, and every morning this certain section I drive past blasts my car with the overwhelming smell of Marijuana. Later, on my way back home I drive past the same spot and don't smell it. My working theory is that there's a Pot Shop that burns all its stale left over product in the morning. Probably not the case but at this point I have no other leads.

I found out from my plumber, the foreman for his digging team used to dig tunnels for the Mexican cartels at gunpoint...(yes he's a legal citizen).

Now I'm tantalized at the idea that I can get him to dig me a bolthole to the greenbelt woods down the street, and I'll have a secret bunker/gaming Batcave, and fill it with lethal/semi-lethal traps. Or maybe my own Temple of Doom!!!!

We're all fatter these days. I hope he gets a second opinion but yeah that sucks. This is not the reason I'd like to have you in WA for.

Sounds cool but please don't make him do it at gunpoint. The man's been through enough.

Shitty news, but that is a good attitude to take. I'm sure for somebody being told they are terminally ill it kind of sucks when people act like you are already gone.

My wife is preparing for a trip back home, returning at the start of October, so have been getting travel money (Nightmare when nobody is travelling so the shops don't hold a lot of currency), getting a PCR Test before she can fly (Then getting an SMS and Email saying they were sorry that she missed her appointment, what? No, she attended the appointment, so now we're waiting to see if the test actually goes through), buying last-minute things and so on.

The good news is that I have 4 months to do whatever I want!

The bad news is that all I want to do is, work, write RPG stuff and watch Streaming TV Shows/Films.

Yeah, there is an almost 10 year gap between my wife and I. It works but only because of the person she is. I've met a lot of women my own age that I'd go crazy trying to live with, so I'm not sure how much age matters, but a big gap doesn't help.

Same. Mrs. Raleel and I have discussed this, and she would want me to find someone else, but she knows damn well it would just not be worth it. 22 years here and agree. I didn't much care for dating back then and I'd hate to start over now.

People are bizarre. You get someone like Keith Richards who does all the stuff you aren't supposed to and he is already past the average life expectancy. Then you get someone like Mr fitness, Jim Fixx who drops dead at 52.

... and just like that, I discovered I had a burst hot-water pipe heating up my patio.... FLARRRGHGHHH!!!...

We had a spigot where the pipe ran under the driveway. At some point the pipe cracked, but it was the rainy season so the ground was already wet, and we never really used the spigot, so our first notice that something was wrong was the $1000 water bill...

At least it was an easy fix once we found out, just removed the pipe where it connected to the house and plugged it.

Got a reminder text today to pay the cell phone bill. Of course they are always very politely worded and full of legalese.

I'd have a lot of respect for a company if instead of the usual, excuse me but you seem to have forgotten to pay your bill just sent a meme text like this.

9 years married, 15 years together. I care so little for dating that I've never actually done it. My relationships have all been with people I met and got along well with.

In general, taking life advice from song lyrics has not worked out well for me in the past.

However, "Life is short, in spite of your plans, so tell them girls they're pretty while you can" from Drink Till We're Gone by Lucero seems pretty solid.

*One particular girl.

*And by "girl" I mean ~33 year-old woman.

Just came home from graduation, I am emotionally drained. Some of our graduated I had not seen since last March.

Today was the last day of 1st grade for my youngest. There is a bit of yay, we have some freedom (my wife works weekends so we really can't get away while he is in school), but also a bit of sadness as school is really his only socialization and he only got in person school for about 3 months this year. We are hermits and have no friends with children his age.

School was suspended for months here last year, and I thanked my lucky stars we have two neighbors with kids close to Baby Butcher in age. It was his one outlet for socialization for the better part of the year.

It is a downside to having children later in life, there is a 13 year gap between Thing 1 and Thing 2. With our older son we knew people with kids, but with the second the people we do know who have kids, have teenagers. The plus side to having one later, I have had a lot more free time to spend with him.

The gap is nice too, built in babysitter who works for pizza and video games. :hehe:
