I just got some documentation, which I'll have to show to the police when they ask "Papers please" if they stop me on the way to or from work.

I could work from home, but my company has disallowed it because they want everyone in the building. On the bright side, I'm in an office by myself, and I don't often have any direct interaction with others.
What country are you in Gabriel?

Washington is ordered to shelter in place but no papers required to move about.

Wow! I’m in the US! Are you in New York? They are asking us to stay home here in Plano (suburb of Dallas) but there isn’t an order that I’m aware of.

I'm in Waco. We have a shelter in place/all non-essential businesses shut down effective until April 7.

not yet, at least. I also got some papers. I imagine they are similar to G Gabriel 's - essentially, you are essential staff, and you can go into work.

what business, might I ask? I assume critical infrastructure/government of some kind.

what business, might I ask?

Freight.

The shelter in place went into effect yesterday. Traffic yesterday was light, but far from nothing. It was actually kind of like traffic on a Sunday afternoon.

I’ve been busy converting my classes over to full digital in preparation for distance learning. I work in a rural district; my school serves four of the six poorest zip codes in Oregon. Tech and internet access are big concerns.

The shelter in place order for Illinois, where I live, explicitly stated that we're still allowed to go for walks & runs as long as we maintain social distancing while out. So I was still able to get my ten-mile run in today, which made me very happy. I know of a trail in the woods that almost no one else uses.

I've gotten a lot of house projects done- deep cleaning, sorting, reorganizing, etc. Currently in the process of switching which room is the office and which room is the guest room.

A few of my friends have been hosting Jackbox games like Fibbage and Drawful on Twitch. I had never used Twitch before, but I figured it out so I could participate. That has been fun.

My brother is in the hospital because he had a "mild heart attack." Personally, I don't really understand the words "mild" and "heart attack" in the same sentence, but that's what the doctor is calling it. Bro seems to be getting good care, so I'm glad of that.

A myocardial infarction (heart attack) is when there is any tissue damage resulting from a dodgy ticker moment, as picked up by a blood test looking for Tryponin. If the damage isn't severe enough to stop the heart from working it's a mild heart attack.

I've had one where there was a positive tryponin test but pretty much walked out of hospital a few days later. Was only held up because the visit went over a weekend when the specialists to sign off the discharge weren't available.

Thanks for the explanation. Makes more sense now.

My new glasses just arrived. Definitely sharper but looks slightly weird. I'll get used to them in a few days I think.

I should have had an eye appointment before all this went down. Not so much because I outright NEED new glasses, but last year I got lenses with special coating that filter computer light and also tint in the sunlight, and I kinda hate them...because everything *feels* filtered to me. Just bugs me.

Mine have an anti-glare coating, but I think it's just a hydrophobic/lipophobic coating that makes them easier to clean.

You can call the optometrist to get the prescription, then get a new pair online at places like Zenni's. It'll probably be $20-40 total.

It's nothing super urgent. But I'll totally look into that, as I really didn't like most of the styles available at the optometrist when I got these.

Well, that was bizarre and mildly unpleasant. The ex-wife I've had zero contact with for fifteen years just popped up in my email. Not out of any pandemic-related concerns; she needs me to sign a form related to the house we used to own together. I will do so, and promptly, because I was perfectly happy to have her completely out of my life.

I need to get new glasses and update my prescription. Course my work coverage just kicked in just before they temp laid me off for the Coronavirus shutdown, lol.

I think I've indulged myself enough this week with late night horror films, drink and junk food, time to try and maintain a schedule and figure out some kind of exercise regime, since my favourite physical activity is swimming and all the pools are shut and it isn't remotely warm enough here to go swimming outside that is a bit of a pickle though.

Zero-contact is the way to go with narcissists, so if your ex-wife had narcissistic traits you're doing the most healthy thing, because these people literally make you sick with their behaviour.

Yeah and make your moves in Diplomacy!

I'll just pour my heart out if you don't mind.

I theoretically have several hundreds of thousands of worth in real-estate in my name. In practice, I'm broke as fuck. Few weeks ago I loaned out what I have on my monthly budget. About 600€, to the mother of my child. My first wife. She used it to get out of Spain, before the C-virus lock-down of Europe.

Her main income was leasing out airbnb style accommodations in Lapland. Well, of course her business was shut down immediately after the international news. So she wasn't able to pay back.

Today I cried for the first time in several years. And I almost did it in public. I'm in danger of losing my wholly owned apartment because I' haven't been able to pay the housing company (don't know if that's the correct English term).

There's some background stories that are involved in this. Mainly my mothers parents incompetence when dealing with financial stuff. Also inheritance. Struggles on how to resolve said inheritance, and the argues that have ensued.

I know that this sounds like "first world problems", but I'm seriously considering buying some fishing hooks and line and wandering up north, off the grid, to wait for this thing to blow over.

Moracai what country are you in? Could you possibly setup a gofund me to help out with finances?

Literally the opposite of “first world problems.” Hope you can find a way out of your material predicament.

Is your government looking into doing anything like loan deferment or supplemental income stuff to deal with the economic hit? You might call your loan/mortgage company and see if you can setup an alternate payment plan. You won't be alone in all this and banks usually don't want to have a lot of property on their books instead of loans.

*Cries behind $700 lenses intended to correct three different vision defects*
And would cost about half that in any other country in the world. Gotta love NZ's supply chain.
Having said that, I have been clobbered for £400 for a pair of glasses before.

How's Roll20, Nobby-W Nobby-W ? I'm thinking about giving it or Astral a go.
Roll20 worked OK. We didn't use most of its features though, and we used Discord for voice chat.

Do yourself a favour and get a decent headset - also try to induce your other players to get one with a good microphone. That makes a world of difference. Jabra 620s and Jabra 550s can be had off Ebay farily cheaply.

I second this recommendation. I got a Jabra and it made all the difference!

Aaaaand the tree bukkake a.k.a. pollen has gone nuts in Georgia. A thin veneer of greenish-yellow gunk covers pretty much everything. It's bad enough where I'm at, but in Atlanta it's the 2nd highest recorded pollen count since they bothered to measure such things.

Because, of course, it's not like anyone is having to deal with any respiratory problems at the moment...

Great so now you have a metric butt ton of people coughing and every scared it's the Rona!

Just tried out Root on Vassal as a substitute for in person play. Looking like a good solution!

Home working going ok. Wife is finding it tough to adjust, but I used to spend a lot of time on the road, so even having a table to work on is a bonus for me. Both "essential" workers with not much to do right now except brush up on professional training.

Daughter and her BF came back from uni before the lockdown, and are having online lectures and singing and music lessons in the spare room. Turns out she got hooked on coke (the wrong sort) living down in London, self-medicating mental illness, so she's finding it tough without drugs. OTOH, she's taking her actual meds for the first time in months.

Her BF lived with us for 18 months before going to uni, he's no trouble to have around. So much for the empty nest, but they're good kids and help out a lot.

Other daughter is doing fine in Japan with her mum. Worried about my folks in Scotland, but they're surrounded by family and friends.

The one upside to lockdown is, paradoxically, the freedom to exercise. Been having huge walks with my schnauzers out in the countryside around the village, just us and the open sky. Seen deer - roe and muntjac - and hares creeping closer to the houses in the quiet, and lots of birdlife.

We're on the flightpath between Schiphol and Manchester airports, and usually wake up to 30 or 40 contrails. This week - nothing. The Red Arrows - British aerobatic team - are stationed nearby and have gone quiet too.
