Police units of note in the Vetawa region

Vetawa is a mish-mash of overlapping and conflicting jurisdictions. There are quite a number of different municipalities in the overall conurbation, including Vetawa, Shonen, Defaki, Armus, Barrya, Kelley Forest, Moseli and Tonami-Cushing. Local governments within these cities have their own police departments as well, and there are several dozen of these. There is also a starport police unit in Moseli. Then there is the Nova Batavia state police, several other state-level policing agencies and an alphabet soup of national police departments. Most are quite corrupt.

Arjen is in the Rochinya Zavernan Socityas (Naval Intelligence Organisation), typically shortened to ROZAS and often referred to as NAVINT, which is not technically a policing organisation, but is military-affiliated intelligence agency that largely concerns itself with military intelligence and foreign intelligence with domestic links. This is one of the less corrupt of such organisations, if one can ever view a spook service as not being corrupt.

Other state agencies of note are the Biro Outsystem Bisnes (Bureau of Outsystem Affairs), typically shortened to BOBI, which is a civilian foreign intelligence agency and the Biro Interstelar Licens (Bureau of interstellar Commerce), which shortens to BIL and is a commercial entity that regulates interstellar business and protects the external interests of the manse. It is rumoured to carry out operations against pirates and similar miscreants, and conduct industrial espionage and infiltrate the economies of other sovereign governments.

There is a state organised crime police taskforce called ANTIYAK, a state serious crime bureau called the Platsya Organisya Detectso (PLOD), roughly meaning State Investigation Organisation and various other state level bodies. These organisations are all corrupt to various degrees, jealously protective of their turf and barely on speaking terms with each other.

Yunokawa Bath House

Named after a famous Terran hot spring, the Yunokawa is a somewhat seedy bath house in a Cimmerian style near the port district of Rokanan. It is a frequent haunt of mobsters, in particular the Cimmerian Komagane syndicate.

Rokanan

A city on the island of Dobryanka in the Yasmum Archipelago. Rokanan is in Nusantaran territory but is close to the border. It is a wild and corrupt place, largely in the pockets of criminal syndicates who use it as a staging point for narcotics produced in the region and arms smuggled in quantity from Cimmeria.

Frel Kashugi

A fixer in Moseli startown who arranges moving contraband discreetly in and out of the starport.

A brand of whisky. Often colloquially shortened to Alpha or Alphameg

Taxadine

Taxadine is a combat stim drug sometimes issued to soldiers. It's somewhat addictive and can induce psychosis, so it's generally used sparingly. Taxadine will speed up reactions and improve strength and coordination for about half an hour, which will then terminate in a crash. Often, glucose drinks and amphetamine stimulants are used to mitigate the effects of the crash. There are slower, less intense variants such as Metacarbamine that can enhance soldiers over a period of several hours - these are more commonly used then Taxadine.

Taxadine is viewed as the crack cocaine of combat drugs.

Now that we're getting stuck in and earning some XP, what's the training and upgrades thing look like in this hack? Obviously we don't have a ship, but are we still using the crew upgrades and shit? Just curious what that's going look like. Also, what are our starting crew gambits? Normally that's based on the ship too, plus 1 for my funky Scoundrel ability.

So, I've sorta-kinda adapted the gang HQ process from Blades in the Dark rather than the ship from S&V. I'll go back and figure out more details in the not-too distant future.

Since we're playing a hybrid, would you consider letting Yoster, at some point, take one of the abilities from the Spider playbook in BitD? I was looking at Weaving the Web and it seems good for the kinda guy Yoster is and his background.

Weaving the Web: take +1d when using to Consort to gather info on a target for a score and if done the crew gets +1d on the engagement roll for that score.

I might make up a S&V-ified Spider and you could switch playbooks to that.

Nah I dont want to switch playbooks.

OOC: I'm largely back in circulation now. Will fly to UK on 31/1 so likely to be mostly offline between 31/1 and 1/2.

Still a bit ill from the Cellulitis. The doctor is consulting with a tropical diseases specialist to try and figure out what to do.

Just an update on my status - my shoulder is getting better but not out of the woods yet. I'm still rationing time on the computer. Pressure at work should ease in the next couple of weeks as I finish something up. Watch this space.

Just by way of an update - my neck has started playing up again, quite badly this time. I'm going to see a specialist privately tomorrow, so will keep you posted.

No worries, you take care Nobby!

I'm getting an epidural steroid injection on Wednesday. With a bit of luck that will calm the irritation down.

The steroid injection has improved matters in that I can now work on the computer, although there is still a bit of irritation and referred pain. Most - but unfortunately not all - of the time I don't need painkillers. I'll probably be taking some tonight.

Still rationing computer time to some extent. Extended periods working on graphics software are still not a starter.

Fear not; I haven't forgotten you.

Stellar

A popular brand of beer in Nusantara. Considered a bit generic and bland in some circles, but generally not disliked and does the job of quenching one's thirst without inciting fanboyism amongst beer snobs.
