The document boxes on top contain Dragon & Dungeon magazines from the 3e period.

The upper cabinet has Challenge magazines, folders of old characters, and stacks of Hero 4e and Classic Traveller hiding behind the front row. The bottom cabinet (which isn't quite as bowed as the photo makes out) has a second row behind the first as well. That'd be Rolemaster, more GURPS 3e, AD&D 1e, 2e, Torg, and a bunch of other stuff I'd have to dig out to check. The books on the upper right are FGU titles like Space Opera and Aftermath! that have long-since lost their boxes. Not shown at all is the box of GURPS 4e hardbound that won't fit, and the box of Forgotten Realm 1e & 2e boxes.

Great, thanks! Well, at the moment there's little to no structure to the way my gaming books sit on my shelves so there's really no way to clarify anything by adding notes, but I'll definitely look into doing that once I've restructured my collection.
I keep thinking of restructuring the books on my shelves but it seems like an impassible hurdle to actually do it. I've now got a pile of RPG books that aren't on any shelves yet ... and there doesn't appear to be enough room ... :worried:

My RPG library following my cull. It includes graphic novels and other geek books.

I also have a couple of boxes of RPGs of ones that didn’t make it to the shelves but also don’t qualify to be culled.

Aside from that, I have a basket of board games, a bunch of CCG stuff, and a few books and box sets laying around loose.
Hello, I will be your robber for this evening. Your address please? :goof:

I'm moving in about a month so my stuff is currently down and all ove the place in boxes/stuff. I should take some pictures when I get everything set up across town.

Figured we could use a thread devoted to pictures of bookshelves, which is pretty much my porn these days

Necro Q for the OP,

Where did you get these white bookshelves?

I ask as I bought a bunch of the classic Billie bookshelves from IKEA last year and almost every one of them, some or even most of the shelves are bowing downwards (where as a decade or more ago when I bought my last set of IKEA bookshelves they didn't bow from the weight of the books)

I can't stand it when the shelves bend so I'm looking for hulk strong bookshelves if they are easily/readily available in North America from a major seller.

Maybe this thread here on the Pub, can give you some ideas:

Shelving units - what'cha got?

Here's a potential solution:
If you do something like Billies from Ikea you can buy extra shelves and cut them down to be mid supports and prevent sagging. That way they also match the finish of the overall shelf.

About 3/4ths of the deadtree Rpgs I own:

The rest is in boxes, waiting to be organized.
I'm in the process of purchasing a new wall unit for my living room, which will house my Rpgs, novels, wargame rulebooks, and big-box boardgames.

I wish I had more space, so I could have them all readily accessible. One thing I didn't mention is that all the boxes have been filled up to stop them being crushed and to save space. I need a bigger house so there's room for more shelving.

I'm pretty sure those are Billies in the pic, but I've also heard that Ikea has sorta cheaped out on the materials in recent years - I dunno if the shelves are still solid wood, or they have gone MDF (which is a cheap sorta "wood filler" - those tend to have the worst propensity for bowing I've found). If you want bookshelves that won't bow, then you want a more expensive solid wood unit, my preference was always cherrywood. The (admittedly heftier) price range jumps up to $500-1000 a piece unfortunately (at least the retail options living in a large city); we're getting into what I'd call "heirloom furniture", the types of stuff that get's passed on for generations.

You can sometimes find the midway point between Ikea and heirloom though, affordable and simple full wood panelled bookcases that won't bend if you don't ask too much of them. I've recently purchased IKEA Kallaxes for some extra shelf space, and they are, about twice the cost of the Billy series, but incredibly sturdy. There is no customization though, it is just straight "boxes" (I mean you can buy like drawer attachments and whatnot, but you can't adjust the shelf heights).

I filled up one with boardgames and graphic novels, including a few omnibus editions and such...

The Kallax/Expedit (Expedit was the old version that had slightly thicker outside walls) are honestly the best thing for board games IMO other than like, custom built shelving. (My plan in my new house is to eventually build a wall of custom shelving, but that is going to wait until after I'm recovering from all the other renovations, for now I'm just going to put my Kallaxes in there.)

Billies are MDF. They are piles of crap but somewhat aesthetic piles of crap that you can get used free or cheap. 80% of mine I got off Free (City-name) on Facebook. The other 20% at thrift stores for $20 or so.

They can be made to look more expensive with moulding and facing. I would go with something else if space & money were no object but I find the depth in inches matters when you are placing them on all four walls. I need the floorspace because some idiot build a huge table into the space.

I’ve showed this before but I’ve rearranged it a little. Pop culture from the 80s to now. My wife says I’ve become more of a kid as I’ve aged. This is just one corner downstairs.

Like I said, it's been recently tidied. I also have some spilling into my living room now- and if you look at some of the shelves, they have multiple tiers in there. I really need to lay off physical books- I just don't have much space left.
If you do, the RPG industry might experience a slump:shock:!

I'm envious of all the great collections of RPG physical books. I'm not at home and couldn't really compete anyway--too many collection purges and I keep most of the stuff I'm not using in boxes. So I'll contribute a shot of some office shelves:

What make of shelves are these?

Here's the section of my library I think of as my "RPG section." Obviously, a lot more history and the like than RPG products per se, but it's those parts of it that I think are most applicable.

Nice to see Defourneaux's Daily Life in Spain in the Golden Age on the shelves (and Riche and so many more). I actually first bought Defourneaux for RPG purposes myself, but it ended up with my 'work' books.

Jumping off from my previous post, I have no problem with people posting their non-gaming books in this thread. Seeing what history books and novels people have on their shelves is as interesting to me as their RPGs. It's where a lot of people get their gaming ideas from.
