It's a great deal. Not sure I'll go for it, since I already spent $20 for a Bundle of Holding Star Trek bundle back in May. This one gives you more for less, though.

. . . I already spent $20 for a Bundle of Holding Star Trek bundle back in May.

Me too. Although the Bundle is an undeniably value, I'm not drawn to their supplements because I don't need more Trek setting material. What I saw in the Core and three Division books I got in May wasn't that new and exciting. And since I can see all the series on Netflix, I'm not sure I need more resources. (I could be proven wrong).

What are people’s thoughts on the actual game though? I know some people aren’t really a fan of 2d20 systems, but each game release seems different.

I'm a fan. I'm a past owner of the FASA and LUG versions of the game and this one runs very clean and easy. There's no struggle or disconnects to do what they do on the shows.

Our group also did a Conan one shot and an Infinity "campaign" and very much liked both.

It's pretty good if your aim is to emulate a Star Trek episode. There are some boardgame-like elements that ruin immersion a little bit, which for some are a deal breaker, but all in all in my very limited experience so far it plays well at the table. The rulebooks themselves are not edited well and I've sometimes had difficulty finding a particular rule, so I'm making notes to myself, but that's true of most games I look at nowadays.

Personally I think the Starter Set is the best way to get acclimated and accustomed to the system. There is a pretty good adventure included which leads the referee through the different rules and how to use them as you play through it.

I like Star Trek Adventures well enough that I want to run an ongoing campaign using it. If I can't do it at the table I may even try recruiting Starfleet Academy graduates here at the Pub to try it over Zoom or something.

How is the content apart from the 2d20 system? I'm tempted to pick it up even if I use if for something else.

I think it's pretty good. Lots of background information you can use and lots of colorful tidbits. Plenty of starship types to choose from and use. Not sure how much is straight off the TV series, though, as I've only seen all of Star Trek and am slowly getting towards the finish line of Star Trek: The Next Generation and have only ever seen a few Star Trek: Deep Star Six and Star Trek: Voyager episodes. The game is geared so you can set your campaign anywhere in the time line from the TV shows, but seems to default to whenever Star Trek: Voyager or wherever the last Next Generation movie left off (I've never seen any of those). As for me, my intention is to set the game contemporaneous to the 2nd or 3rd season of Next Generation aboard either another Galaxy-class starship or maybe a Nebula-class starship just to eliminate the civilians being aboard. I mean toward Galaxy-class just because everyone is familiar with it, but I'd probably let the players choose.

All that civilian tonnage on the Galaxy class could be replaced with marines and torpedoes.

That wouldn't be a Star Trek series that interests me, though. I like five-year or "ongoing" missions to explore strange new worlds, to seek out new life and new civilizations, to boldly go where no man has gone before!

I would be very interested in something like that.

I'll let you know what, if anything, transpires. If it happens, it'd likely start around 8 p.m. PST on whatever night is best for me.

I'm on East Coast time so that wouldn't work for me but I thought I'd ask.
