Sounds good! I've got a name and story for the art above (and colored version by a more professional artist) but it would give too much away )

How about this one?

Lady Bennu (because of the phoenix-like symbol, it's not a true Egyptian one but it works)
Real Name: Ahti (Ameera Ba pseudonym for modern times)
Ahti, or Lady Bennu, was an ancient Egyptian from pre-New Kingdom Egypt. She devoutly worshiped Ra, and after a time was imbued by Ra with powers of light and fire, and virtual immortality to serve as Ra's messenger and guardian of Egypt on Earth. She fought and defended Egypt against outside threats for over 200 years, sometimes dying and being reborn from her ashes.

A vile servant of Apophis trapped her ashes inside an enchanted canopic jar, which was hidden among others within a tomb for an as yet unidentified mummy. Archeologists discovered the tomb and noted the odd number of canopic jars (five instead of four.)

The jar had noted warnings of the danger of its opening, so after it was discovered in 1956, it was placed in a museum, until it was forgotten and lost for many years. In late 2012, remodeling of the museum lead to her accidental rescue. While moving things from storage, the jar was inadvertently damaged which released Lady Bennu. Surprising everyone with her sudden appearance, many of the workmen fled in terror. An Egyptologist familiar with the time period was brought in while she was trying to find her way out of the museum and despite difficulties managed to communicate with her, after a short rough conversation her powers gifted her with the modern tongues of the world--as befit a messenger to know how to speak to deliver the messages of Ra, unfortunately, she has not been able to reach Ra through meditation or other means, and so has chosen to guard modern-day Egypt until she can receive further instructions or a message.

She has routed a modern cult of Apophis and destroyed a magically resurrected mummy, as well as a few tomb-robbers, she is often confused by modern religious folk (Christians, and Muslims, among others) and remains devoted to her lord. In her modern secret identity, she is an expert consultant on her time period for Egypt and acts as both an assistant to the Egyptologist who spoke with her and a tour guide.

She has even indicated the location of four "lost" tombs from her era.

Does anyone want Icons, MSH, or H&S stats for her?

Sense 2 (Poor): Mystical Awareness

Qualities:
"I'll fight if I have too!"
Sweet and Genuine
Chosen by Hathor

History:
Every so often, one of the Gods of old seek a champion and imbue a mortal with their power, in the hopes of aiding those and perhaps gain worshipers once more. Grecian, Norse, Mayan and Egyptian deities are among the most active. Although those tend to be the more militant or vengeful ones, it's rare to get a Goddess of Love or Health involved. Hathor, for example, would rather watch Humanity than interfere in anyway, unless some great evil stirred. Unfortunately, one has, which has gotten the attention of nearly every pantheon still active. And so Hathor picked a chosen.

Tabitha is a recent arrival to the American scene, her father Ebo Fadil is a prominent business man with interests both in his home country of Egypt and the U.S. And Tabby being the youngest at 18, gained his dual citizenship. A nice, gentle, submissive girl despite the protective combat training she along with her brother and sister recieved, she doesn't seem to be one that would gain magical abilities or even want to become a heroine. However, although generally sweet, passive and genuinely nice, the University Sophomore has a protective streak that has gotten her in trouble back in her home country. And was the real reason Daddy brought her along this business trip.

So when the 'Great Evil' snaked it's tendrils of power during a rave that the pretty girl had been invited to and turned her own friends against her, the Goddess had found her moment, her opening to imbue a champion! Suddenly empowered with healing and other defensive abilities, Tabby made quick work of the inept cultists and strange magic. After using some favours to get her out of the arrest when the police raided the party, his baby girl of a family of 3 siblings decided she would stay in America and learn of her purpose as it seems that she's needed here, rather than back home. Besides, she has a crush to protect and a course to finish!

Best I could come up with on short notice. Not my best work, I apologize.

Solid work Chris, no need to apologize... well, except for apologizing in the first place.

Sorry for the lateness. I'm going to give the nod to Silverlion. I really liked the details he included in his idea, thought I like Chris Brady's quite a bit too so honorable mention there too. It was a tough choice.

Silverlion, the next submission is yours.

Well, its been about 10 days, any takers?

He patrols the skies over Jamaica, and Kingston in particular. He wears Red, Gold and Green. He is deferential and mannered in approach. If he spots trouble he tends to land close by and stroll up with a nodded "Wagwan?" He has been known to show up at international supers events, though it's more likely for natural disasters or alien invasions than crime.

Qualities:

History:
Have you ever wondered how you'd react if you had completely random powers from an experiment or an accident? Maxwell used to until the school game. Someone had spiked the water bottles with mutaphetamine, the super power giving street drug. But apparently this strain was designed to be permanent and so far avoids the psychotic break the more common stuff gives.

A good kid from a middle class home, the moment that the bullies and victims started to attack each other after a few minutes of confusion, he stepped in trying to minimize the damage that the sudden explosion of Post-Human hormonal teenagers inevitably causes! His innate adaptability allowed him to handle the freaky changes relatively quickly, throwing ice blasts on the ground to make people slip and fall, or using his size shifting ability and enhanced strength to wrestle down the others. He tried not to hurt anyone, until the cops came.

Slipping away during the confusion, he's been testing the limits of his abilities in private. Even going so far as to teach himself to skate. Modifying an old school play costume and fixing it with some metal plates (Hooray for enhanced strength!) he 'stole' from a junkyard, then painting it over, Max has decided to name himself The Unremarkable Skater-Bug! Once he did that, the antennae had to be added to the helmet.

He's started to take on street level crime, not completely sure about his full capacity, nor having any real training in how to fight. But the biggest fear? His parents finding out he's got super powers, he'll be grounded for life if they do!

Little late, but I say we go ahead and give it to him, what does everyone else say?

I like it, its amusing but doesn't come across as parody, but of course its up the picture's poster to decide.

Just been fighting various energy and life things. Alas.

Well, he's obviously a mix of Max Damage and Guts from Berserk!

I'm unfamiliar with those characters so I'll take your word for it

But while that's the case, the premise of the thread is to create a background for a character inspired by the picture

That's irrelevant to this thread. I guess my suggestion was a bust.

Jake "Handy" Delgado was a mechanic at his father's shop, he'd worked there his entire life, just like his dad did under his grandfather, and his grandfather and more. They were always the best in the neighborhood, and willing to work with anyone on getting their beat-up cars running so they could go to work, or get their kids to school. The Delgado's were known as a standup family. Not the kind of family you'd push unless you wanted them coming down on you like a hammer en masse. All big, all brawny, and none of 'em with enough sense to know when to walk away.

Hearing some trouble round the back, Jake at 15, was sent round back to make noise and tell whoever it was to buzz off. Turns out it might have been a good idea to walk away. Drug deal went very wrong, right before Jake's eyes, and well, the small Italian crime family moving into the too-entrenched Latino part of town didn't get wise fast enough, and opened up on poor Jake, and torched the shop.

Fortunately, they didn't know the Delgado's or the kind of family and friends they'd made.

Little tinkerer down the way saw Pappa Delgado (Hidalgo), crying over his son bleeding out on the street. An ambulance was minutes away, and the little tinkerer? Well, he had a secret or two. First, he dropped Jake into stasis with a little stick no bigger than his thumb. Told Hidalgo to carry his son round back to the scraps. Not a full auto yard, just dead TV's, satellite disks, and a few strange things he didn't notice as he walked by- shedding tears for his son. The little tinkerer? Everyone knew him as Eljay.

Assumed it was for Elijah and went on their way, what they didn't know was LJ120-EM-14Theta (In English letters and Arabic numbers) was an alien android observing Earth. One of the most advanced alien species out there sent him in to see what humans were like--and it found a place it actually loved and a people worth standing up for, but it wasn't allowed to 'tamper,' or intervene with the species development.

So it did what it could to nudge here or there helping people with their heater, or tv, or whatever. It respected the Delgado's and their families willing to do so for others. So while LJ, knew it couldn't change the species? One human isn't the species, right? So it rebuilt Jake. Most of him as he'd been before--don't tamper with something works, but you know, a specialized skeleton, and healing biomimetic muscle wrap isn't a BIG change? It left one arm uncovered so Jake could make a point. He couldn't "aid" the species, but Jake? Jake could. Given the enhancements, and healed of harm. Jake became a local legend, helping to fix things as they were needed. He wasn't the guy you called to fight the evil masterminds, no. But a gang? They definitely didn't operate within a mile of his place anymore. The Italian Mafia? Gone. The Bratva? Later? Just said no. Everyone got to know Hammerfist, his family, and just somehow got a clue.

LJ still works his little store, watching with hope, and proud of those people around him trying in terrible times to stand together. Maybe in a couple of hundred years, he'll get new orders, advanced doesn't always mean "fast."

Jake knows LJ's secret and keeps it that way, so do his family. It's what they do.

Chris Brady, should we call this one the winner or wait for another entry for a little longer?

That’s an awesome picture. He’s got work boots on and a wifebeater shirt, but has pants with a crease, a silver buckle and suspenders. That and the tribal tat have me thinking Mob Enforcer/Assassin who worked his way up the hard way before whatever happened to the arm. Thanks for the pic, that’s a great Shadowrun PC/NPC.
