From what I read in the conversation, this will be for the SIEGE Engine. Full compatibility with C&C is expressly mentioned. I'd think Troll Lord fans probably prefer this to a 5E version.
Hmm I was vaguely considering the 5E version, as I know the learning curve would be minimal, and the character sheet would be straight- forward

I have not seen the earlier SIEGE engine version of AA, but if it was based on D&D 3E then the character sheet wilI likely be much more complex with skill bloat etc, more complex than I usually like to run D&D and pulpy action

I guess I need to take a look at the SIEGE AA character sheet first, but if its too much like 3E era then thats not my bag anymore.

Not a fan of doing the three volume corebook thing for any game. It strikes me as especially pointless for SIEGE AA.

To me, Indiegogo implies they're going to do it anyway and will take whatever money people will throw at them beforehand, thus the reason not to do it as a Kickstarter.

Moving it back to SIEGE makes sense as I'm sure they plan to continue to support C&C, and there's no telling what WotC will do with D&D Next.

The SIEGE version is actually less complex than 5E--Castles & Crusades used the OGL and OGC from 3E as a baseline, but rolled it almost entirely back to somewhere between B/X and AD&D in terms of complexity. AA is a little more complex in a couple of spots, but still not quite at 5E's level, to say nothing of 3E.

I thought the use of indigogo vs Kickstarter tended to be due to rules about too many running/open campaigns at a time.

SIEGE engine is a LOT simpler than some iterations of D&D. Though a lot depends on how you see the mechanics of individual classes. This is apparently a new mega-printing that includes clean up and the companion. Not exactly an entirely new edition. Since someone kindly provided me with C&C books this being compatible is a huge thing. I like the idea of the SIEGE Engine, and can find it useful, although I'd probably use the "roll and add" houserule I've seen.

It is based on 3e as in you roll high for everything. There are no skills, no feats, and fixed progression…there’s no good multi classing either

Multiclassing never sits well for me, but having the scope to swap a skill from another Class is a good option - but wouldn't be available here obviously

3E without Skills/Feats sounds pretty simple and straightforward, no bloat
Makes me wonder how character archetypes are portrayed (unless Class is a package of abilities usually covered by Skills & Feats, which is almost how 5E Proficiency Bonus works)

Classes are self contained. Like B/X or AD&D 1e. Each class is it’s own archetype, I guess?

even though IndieGoGo kinda sucks
Yeah man, it's kind of a hassle. I'm in for the PHB and CKG in print, but I'd like to get some indication of the shipping costs and it's also unclear to me how to add add-ons to your pledge.

I went with the $100 full set and I’m sure I’ll get dinged for shipping. I’m in the US so it shouldn’t be crippling. I figured I’ll add on what I want for their next KS

The Player’ Handbook for Castles and Crusades (the parent game of Amazing Adventures, and the same system) is available for free. That’s the best way to take a look.
Thanks for that - I just downloaded it, thank you very much for the heads up!

The C&C PHB is a really good looking book, it has a good vibe to it.
I'll take a much better look at it tonight once I get more time.

A few intial niggles however -
From a quick glance at the C&C character sheet, I can see that the character sheet itself looks a bit cluttered and 'exact' for what I envisioned from a stripped down D20 system.
I also don't like the old TSR style Saving Rolls, I find it unusual that TrollGod Games went with those over the D&D 3E Resistances which would have been covered under the D20 OGL.

On the positive side, I can see that there is no 3E Skill bloat, which is definately good.

D&D hums better for me when the core Characteristics are central to gameplay, rather than moving to a more Skill-focused game (that's what I use BRP/ICE/WFRP for). As an aside, D&D 5E also did well by having core Characteristics, with a single PB for more specialised skills. It's broad, but that's kinda how I like D&D to be.

I do like how C&C looks like it minimises Feat bloat by trimming it down to just Class Abilities

C&C does look like a reasonable version of the D20 system, I can see why people do like it.
If the game designers get rid of the TSR saving rolls and trim the presentation of the character sheet down a bit more, then SIEGE may be more what I want from a D20 system.

Different horses for different courses
Certainly something to keep my eye on
(Especially Astounding Adventures)

I personally prefer the Ref/Con/Wis (Int?) saves better, but I know why they did it. One thing I can say is that the saves as presented almost never come up in play. The vast majority of monster abilities and spells specifically reference what stat to use for a save, so they end up being a lot more logical at the table than in the book.

C&C is the only “D&D” game that I play/run, although I have played many others and probably will play yet more, this is how I and the folks I play regularly with envision “D&D.”

Which is why they won’t play DCC much to my chagrin.

Hmmm I might be just as interested in this version
5E is probably more suited to pulp action/adventure than it is to classic fantasy
I own both the C&C-style AA and the 5E version. I like both. My current group is totally sold on 5E, so that's a bonus for me at the moment, but I love the original just as much. C&C is like 3E but much faster and looser, and AA plays just like that. I find that AA works well for a "Dresden Files" type campaign, but I sometimes have to tinker with spell lists a little in order to get the flavor of the books.

Oddly enough, we (while break from Psycho Vikings) are starting a Dresden Files game. We’re using the FATE one though, because we love it.

I enjoy the FATE one, and actually was part of the playtest. My group isn't sold on FATE, however, so we never play it.

All you need is the book.
Cool. I was considering picking it up. I know Jason Vey (we've known each other from when he wrote some supplements for Eden Studios), but I've never picked up the original version. I played 5E once shortly after it came out and liked it, but haven't played it since. Figured at such a low price, it would be worth picking up.

Jeez I'll even check it out for that price.

No biggie for me if the line gets discontinued as I am likely to prefer a 5E chassis over a 3E one (like SIEGE) anyway.

In some ways I think the D20 5E game mechanics may suit Pulp Adventure better than they do for High Fantasy.
Having one Proficency Bonus for skills, as well as the Advantage & Disadvantage dice mechanic, it sounds pretty pulpy to me. Retrap Inspiration as Luck and it's good to go

In any case, I can spend $10 USD checking this out

Yeah. It's a really good deal. They also have the original SIEGE version on sale for the same price.

Point of order and not to besmirch you, but SIEGE is about as close to D&D 3e as Dungeon Crawl Classics
I quite like DCC, so if SIEGE AA is anything like that then that's good.

Although I read somewhere that C&C SIEGE uses old TSR-style Saving Rolls, and they never made any sense to me.
Not sure if Troll God Games kept those same Saving Rolls for AA or not, but that wouldn't be my thing.

I'll be more or less happy with the 5E core mechanics as foundation for something like this.

But it's probably a good idea for Troll God Games to move forward with a return to their own D20 SIEGE mechanics (given that 5E will be superceeded)

DCC and Siege aren’t similar, but neither is very similar to 3e. I prefer Siege to 5e, but systems are personal decisions.

Troll Lord is trying to avoid being tied to 5e, especially because of the subscription model it’s probably moving to

Since I got paid a day early, I went and ordered the 5E version. Shipping was $5.50, so still a good deal compared to the price tag showing on Amazon. Already got a tracking number, so hopefully it ships on Friday (I'm not getting my hopes up that it will actually ship today).

Yes that's certainly a smart move for them
I think it’s a smart move for everybody. I’m not sure if the subscription model is going to absolutely shatter the tabletop industry or prove to be a boon like 4e.

Either way I think the 5e gravy train is about to head full steam into a tunnel that’s just painted on the side of the mountain for a lot of tabletop companies.
