That is the dark wuxia game (just a note I don't believe that release date is set in stone). I love Osprey books and was very excited to work on a project for them.
Can you tell us more? Like setting details? Is there a website link you can drop yet?

When I worked on Righteous Blood, Ruthless Blades, we timed the combat because we wanted a fast, Gu Long style of fighting. We also aimed for brevity in the entries (to make them easier to run at the table but also, again, to get more of a Gu Long style). Righteous Blood also takes place in China itself. It isn't set in a fantasy world.
It was time for just such a game, if you ask me!

I don't have any information on a website for it yet (it is being put out by the RPG division of Osprey though). I know very little that has been confirmed (I was just the the co-writer and designer on this one, so I don't have as much knowledge of the background stuff). I can say it focuses on world building at the Jianghu Level, embraces the anachronistic and romanticized history approach of Gu Long and movies inspired by him. His books tend not to pinpoint a historical period (a bit opposite of Louis Cha/Jin Yong). It has a similar system to Ogre Gate but much simpler, with character levels, and fewer martial arts abilities to juggle (the abilities are broader in character too). We managed to pull off a few things that I was proud of as well (nice drinking rules, an interesting initiative system, a gritty and deadly combat system and solid "Fire Deviation" rules). The setting is meant to feel like a Chor Yuen movie.

I've picked up a few sandbox settings on PDF: Gardens of Ynn, Yoon Suin, and Ultraviolet Grasslands. Have just started on UVG and digging it's weirdness so far.
Yoon Suin is a personal favorite. So, so good. If you like these, make sure you check out Hill Cantons/Marlinko material from Hydra, as well as Operation Unfathomable.

Cheers. I love Jason's stuff so OU is on the list. Been reading the Canton's blog for a long time, and was going to grab Misty Isles, but went for Gardens of Ynn instead. But Isles and Marlinka are also on my ever-growing "to get" list. Hot Springs looks great too. Too much OSR goodness around.

Did you back the Kickstarter? This sounds up my street but I’m not seeing it in the usual places yet.

No, just grabbed the pdf from DTRPG.
Ah, I see what happened now. The free intro book is published by Hydra Cooperative, whilst the full book is published by Exalted Funeral. At first, I only though the free intro was available.

Off to the checkout...

Question about Songling, @BedrockBrendan... any plans to put out more adventures? The four in the rulebook are terrific, and this is a game that I think works particularly well with published adventures (since it leans away from sandbox play). Especially the notion of ten-and-done adventures lends itself well to campaign volumes.

Thanks. I am glad you like the adventures in the book. I may release adventures if there is enough demand. So if the line takes off well enough, so I can justify the investment in adventures I will. I have an adventure written already called the Starlit Inkstone. Ironically it is a sandbox adventure (its a light and easy sandbox, but still a sandbox). I made it thinking people might want to see how to turn Strange Tales in a sandbox direction. So that is one that could come out at some point. A series of 10 of monster-of-the week style adventures would be fun to work on. A book of ten adventures could be a possibility but that would require each adventure be fairly short in length (unless the book were pretty big).

I was thinking it might be about as big as the rulebook if we're using adventures the size of the ones included, but on second thought, it might be bigger than that. The rules are awfully compact...just how I like 'em.

I basically finished reading the book today without going through all the adventures. It just holds together so nicely so I really hope it gets exposure - I was quite disappointed and a little surprised that I didn't see it on the bestseller list.

So after going to my old address in NYC (which was my own fault), getting sent back to @brettmb, and finally being mailed to the right address, I finally got my copy of Two Fisted Tales 2E in the mail today.

We got up to number 12 for a little bit, but the bestseller list is based on the amount a book makes, not just the numbers sold (unless they changed the formula recently). If I had set the price at 12.99 instead of 9.99, it likely would have boosted a little higher on the list for example.

Jealous - I’m a backer but probably won’t see it for a few weeks yet, being the wrong side of the pond

It actually beat the notice that they had started shipping by a day, so it was a bit of a surprise walking out to head to the grocery store and finding a large package on the porch.

This is something I almost passed on as initially I had little interest in the idea of random generation of an adventure. The more people talked about it the more it grew on me as a solution to many problems encountered in the real world of playing games with people who have actual lives. It seems well suited to pick up games or a solution for those game sessions where half the players in a group call off at the last minute.
A lot of this stuff is going to make TFT a very good game for introducing new people to RPGs.

I've played a fair bit of GURPS so the basics are familiar, but I never played TFT "back in the day". It has a very funky sci-fi / fantasy vibe to the assumed setting which I didn't expect, but it is growing on me.

Yes, I noticed this a while ago when I saw two items on the bestseller list that were in opposite order of how they were listed on the $5 or Under list. Since the cheaper one was ranked higher on the latter list, I realized that the only thing that could explain this, other than an error, was if the bestseller list was really a Highest Revenue list. That of course also explains why Monte Cook's latest exercise in gaming hubris ranks on that list at all (I'm too poor and prudent to know if it's any good).

TFT specializes in delivering the goods at the table, whether or not you have prepped some elaborate story line or boss fight. There are lots of games that have a better sales pitch or sound cooler in white-room analysis, but not many that are as consistently entertaining to actually play.

Pretty much the only way my friends and acquaintances could get me to run a fantasy RPG would be if they agreed to play The Fantasy Trip.

Cool. Let me know what you think of the changes. It's a pity it isn't retro-compatible with the cards for 1E.

That I did not know. I was thinking about ordering those, but now I know I won't need them

Forbidden Lands praise! Pride is a brilliant mechanic and one I wished I had thought up myself as I can think of several character down the years who claimed things but were never ever able to back them up. I've never lost an arm-wrestling contest! That lasted for 1 more contest. Pride would have been great for little things like that.

And it lends itself well to publishing at least 6 more adventures:devil:!

Do you mean they have any reservations, perchance:shade:?

Very nice.

EDIT: Wasn’t this a play on the word “reservations”? I.e. reluctance and bookings for a (fantasy) trip

...thank you, I guess? Not sure why you found it particularly funny.

I mean, I would have much preferred TFT to the houseruled D&D 3.5 that I've been offered to play, and yet I accepted even that (with the explicit understanding that it would be a short game:shade:)!

Bit of a cheat this but I decided to get these printed professionally. Its been mentioned a lot here, more than a few times by @Stevethulhu for example, and I do already have the re-released Star Wars 1e set produced by FFG but I kinda like the presentation of these, in the four easy-to-manage books:

I'm definitely pleased with the results.
