So, it keeps coming up- why the extreme... "feelings" towards 2d20? Is there a thread somewhere that shows how such inoffensive pablum of a system can inspire such ire?
It's more joke than real but it's right on the edge so it's easy to get confusedSo, it keeps coming up- why the extreme... "feelings" towards 2d20? Is there a thread somewhere that shows how such inoffensive pablum of a system can inspire such ire?
You keep your mouth off of Jimmy Buffet! We even had a Cheeseburgers in Paradise restaurant locally and it was great! I shed a tear when it closed.Mediocrity is offensive tho. That's why I hate Jimmy Buffet.
Nah don't worry about it, there's plenty of folks here who don't mind the system, even if it's not their favourite system. So, it keeps coming up- why the extreme... "feelings" towards 2d20? Is there a thread somewhere that shows how such inoffensive pablum of a system can inspire such ire?
I need names and addresses of these pro geese people..Nah don't worry about it, there's plenty of folks here who don't mind the system, even if it's not their favourite system.
Some criticisms are valid, but not to the extent of the public lynching it gets here, but it's just become a thing to bag here
I know if I post something about a good Conan 2D20 session I just ran, then that's like putting a target on my arse for a few days.
It doesn't worry me if some people don't like my cooking, and sometimes its worth doing a 2D20 text dump just to see who you wake up, heh heh
It's a decent game, IMO it's certainly as good if not better than D&D
But it's not my main course either, there are other systems I will die on my sword for
And I'm dubious that Modiphius should be using 2D20 for all these franchises they keep buying; some of them are not pulpy at all, and 2D20 will be an ill fit.
But Conan is cool no matter what.
I did like Endless Flight 's Ben Kenobi meme 'Before The Dark Times, before 2D20!", that was pretty funny
But it's not all 2D20 Hate here -
We have factions for and against Geese as well, and that runs much, much deeper than 2D20
I'd say a lot of the resentment of the system comes down to it repeatedly securing big licenses that people would rather see done with other systems. I have no strong feelings on the matter myself. So, it keeps coming up- why the extreme... "feelings" towards 2d20? So, after a quick perusal of the In The Labyrinth hardcover I bought used a while back, I sprung for the I Want It All box. I got free Prime shipping, so I figured that was as good a deal as I was going to get on it. It's very impressive. I read Melee tonight, and played a quick 1-on-1 combat (myself being both of the 1s). I'm going to try to walk myself through it, step myself up, and then spring it on my group. The hardcover has a really warped front cover. SO did the used one I bought, but I figured that's because it was used (and it may have been). But they both have the same odd warp "pattern". Concave middle, with bowed out top and bottom. Weird. I'm not peaking on it, but I don't feel like returning the whole thing, and I'm fairly certain they won't let me do a partial return. *shrug*
My biggest issue with the 2D20 books aren't mechanics, but instead are about the layout. The books tend to be quite stunning in look. It's just how they go about laying out the mechanics and explaining them. They need someone with a better eye for organizing the books. Better indexes, charts etc.Nah don't worry about it, there's plenty of folks here who don't mind the system, even if it's not their favourite system.

My new Marvel Omnibus arrived today. This is one I've thought they should have done for a LONG time.

I've had the Uncanny X-Men Vol 4 Omnibus for a couple of weeks now. The Marvel Universe one is the new one. It collects the enitre original run of the Deluxe Handbook of the Marvel Universe from the 80s. But it does lack the Updates that came out for a few years after, which IS sort of a bummer.
Still, it's a MAMMOTH book.

New Armor Class achieved. Or does it not count since it's not an RPG book?
I immediately went to buy it as I am prepping to run Marvel Super Heroes, but that price tag caused me to put it on my wish list instead. I mean, I am pretty sure I'll buy it, but I need to do some performative deliberation first in order to seem like an adult.I loved and had all those back in the 80s but can't justify that price tag right now.
And my issue is how they're trying to shoe horn a system in all settings with no care that it won't work with them.My biggest issue with the 2D20 books aren't mechanics, but instead are about the layout. I'd like to have had the experience with it to know whether or not "shoe horning" was an issue, but I've found no one to play it with in my area pre pandemic. My experience is only with buying and reading through Conan, John Carter, Mutant Chronicles, Infinity and Star Trek. Hmm I think I've developed a collector's addiction. LolAnd my issue is how they're trying to shoe horn a system in all settings with no care that it won't work with them.

There are two in that list that do not work: Conan and Star Trek. The Universe (By way of Momentum mechanic) does not care in Conan. it doesn't 'work' against the players. The players succeed because they are bigger and tougher, or they run. The universe does not conspire against people.I'd like to have had the experience with it to know whether or not "shoe horning" was an issue, but I've found no one to play it with in my area pre pandemic. Good idea. Why not just print what you need from Classic Marvel Forever?
The Hyborian Age is gritty and uncaring, yet often the central characters are very pulpyThere are two in that list that do not work: Conan and Star Trek. In Star Trek, they don't get problems thrown at them by their actions. Again, the Universe is a neutral force, it doesn't twist and turn because some great deity bargains with the heroes.
And those are my main issues. Also, players are notoriously risk averse. The Hyborian Age is gritty and uncaring, yet often the central characters are very pulpy
To this extent I find Conan 2D20 actually works well in play because it does feel tactile and gritty, yet the Momentum Pt mechanic lends itself well to cinematic actions. Not sure if it can portray post- Original Era Star Trek however. DUNE even less so.
The Conan 2D20 core book is challenging to navigate at the gaming table, that is a big detractor.
I also feel that it was an unecessary mechanic having GM Doom Pts to offset to offset the PC Momentum Pts . This has not enhanced my role as a GM, and could potentially detract from it.
Despite that I've had alot of fun recently running Conan 2D20.
Yeah I'm starting to find that myself. Especially because the default is they always get to act first in combat, and any rolls of ties in opposed rolls (Struggles) are always in their favourAnd those are my main issues. Also, players are notoriously risk averse.

I hope you'll post something about The Clay that Woke when you've had a chance to read and/or run it. It looks very interesting.
My tastes, I fear, are more predictable. I took advantage of the GM's Day Sale to pick up some BRP supplements I'd been missing:

After being delayed in the post for a while each, the following all arrived yesterday:
I'd have no problem doing that. I'm in the middle of a "Strange Tales of Songling + Righteous Blood, Ruthless Blades" game at the moment, so it'd be a while until I'd have actual play experience, but I could throw up a reading impression as such.I hope you'll post something about Ghosts of Albion. I've been interested in the game, though not enough to pick it up.
