Doing my part to stimulate the economy with my stimulus check, I decided to finally get a decent desktop (I've been working from a laptop for years now. Admittedly I have a nice laptop, but still)
Congrats. Dual monitors was a huge upgrade for my work efficiency and general quality of life. I’m hoping the same goes for you.

I have been considering one of those 48” curved monitors but need to gather more information before pulling the trigger.

Totally worth it. I can heartily recommend the Dell panels.

I had already been using two monitors, but it was laptop + external monitor. And it's nice to not have one small monitor . Also because of the laptop keyboard and that I always have used an external keyboard when at my desk, that small monitor had to be even further away.

Since I was already using it at my desk 99% of the time, there was no reason for it to even be a laptop. (Though now I have it in my laptop bag for when I do want to do something and not sit at my desk, or for when I travel... you know when travel is a thing again).

Also, because I just bought the second monitor (to match my existing second monitor), apparently google ads thinks I need to buy this monitor, which you know, if I had fuck off levels of money...

$1400 is too rich for my blood!

I dont even have a 48" extra wide, just this 34"

Dell UltraSharp U3415W

I'm sure there are more recent iterations that are bigger/sleeker/snazzier, but I was able to ditch my dual 27" setup for this. It's even got a built-in kvm switch so I can toggle to my work laptop as needed.

When I started playing in your group over Roll20 I found my 15.6 inch laptop wouldn’t cut it so I added a 24 inch Dell monitor. Would have done 2 monitors but my laptop is on the breakfast table and I have to reserve room for things like food. I know, poor priorities!

I run a BenQ 32" monitor with a old dell 27" monitor in portrait orientation at my desktop. I find that's good for gaming and for what little coding I do these days.

Could you tell me more, please? I don't know anyone who has ditched their dual setup for an extra wide. What are the pros and cons? Also I don't see anything in your Amazon link.

I just copy and pasted the amazon link to the monitor I bought 4 years ago. You might have to disable ad-block or something? I altered the link. Anyway . . .

The pros: Most of the functionality and real estate of a dual-monitor setup -- having multiple windows open next to each other and having them all be usable (documents, webpages, etc.), but without the annoying line in the middle. Also great for my particular use-case as a Remote Sensing/GIS Specialist doing image analysis in ArcMap and ERDAS (also great for vidjya gaemz). Easier to use with a single VESA wall mount or swivel arm mounted to a desk
The cons: You might need a decent-ish video card to push pixels if you do any sort of 3D gaming at all. Also if coding is more your thing, or you use a second monitor in portrait mode then this won't likely replace that particular setup.

When there is sufficient demand I suppose.
As I read through it my ideas keep getting kookier... and sidling closer to Land of the Lost.
Could be worse. Could be Little House on the Prairie.

I've been thinking of getting something like this - the DM who runs the 5e game I'm playing in has one. It needs a machine capable of doing 4k to run it, but if you have that it's a reasonably good setup. When we were playing in-person, it's large enough to put up a hit points and status tracking app that the whole room can read.

At the moment I have a 30" NEC PA-301W which is a 16:10 2560x1600 monitor, really too big to set up as a dual-screen even if I had the desk space. The screens I looked at are about 50% bigger horizontally at 3840x1600, which makes them the better part of a metre wide, so these screens are getting physically quite large. Even my old NEC is pretty clunky and weighs in at 24kg, although modern ones are substantially lighter.

I got a hardcover version of Electric Bastionland, which is awesome. I've had the PDF for a while, but the book itself is quite impressive.

I also bought the Index Card RPG Bundle of Holding. Really digging it.

I'd be interested in reading anything you'd like to post about it, from a capsule review up to a 'where I read' thread. I've been intrigued by the game, but it always was a little too expensive to justify, given that I have a number of other games on roughly the same subject.

It's Little Cave on the Tundra .

Bard's Gate is not related to Bard's Tale in any way, right?

I picked up Datk Times a bit ago. It’s a bad future, cyberpunk superhero game where it turned out implanting power-bestowing technology into people resulted in any future children they have developing biological powers.

it’s got some holes in it with regard to playing normal humans and their ability to use cyberware and nanotech, and a part of the backstory makes me want to ask the author if they understand the use of the word “dirty” in dirty bomb, but other than that I recommend it.

Yeah, I have it. It's pretty good, though I'll probably just cannibalize it for parts.

Not an RPG, but hopefully suitable inspiration material for gaming... an omnibus b&w collection of the entire run of John Carter, Warlord of Mars that Marvel did in the late 70s. Found it out in the wild for $12.

I finally got the second edition/printing of Teenagers From Outer Space. I've had copies of the 1st and 3rd printings for a while, so now I finally have the full trilogy.

It's not really a trilogy, though. All three are the same book. The 2nd print is very much like the first one. Very little has changed. The cover changed from the anime-esque original to something more in line with promo art for an American Saturday morning cartoon. Most art inside has remained the same as the first print, but some pieces have been inexplicably replaced with new images in a slightly different style. There are also some new images decorating the sidebars every once in a while. The content itself remains almost a reprint. There's the notable addition of a programmed introductory solo adventure and there are more example characters. Other than that, it's almost word for word and page for page.

The 2nd print is perfect bound like the 3rd and unlike the saddle stitch 1st edition. I think it's fair to guess that it dispensed with the tiny dice which had been sold with the 1st edition. (The first edition had a tiny baggie stapled into the back containing two microscopic d6s.) The cover of 2nd edition is super glossy. It's very much unlike any other perfect bound book R Ralsorian ever did that I'm aware of.

Now that I have all three, I think I have to say that I like the 1st edition version best. Maybe that's just nostalgia, but other than art there are not really any meaningful differences between them. The 3e book tries too hard to be anime. While 1e has a disconnect between it's cover and interior art, there a consistency of the 1e art that is missing from the 2e book. And, once again, maybe just nostalgia, but the 1e book makes me think of high school in the 80s more than the others due to it's presenation or maybe just because I actually had it back in high school during the 80s.

Now I need to decide if I want to hunt down Field Trip and The Landing. GAK! I wish I had snagged those when no one wanted them and they were super cheap.

Managed to grab a copy of Age of Treason. This is for the Mongoose Legend release of Thennla now replaced by the Mythras versions that have not only been updated to Mythras but rejigged as to content as well. Managed to score it for under a fiver including shipping. Should get it next Monday. I wanted to get it to fill in anything that hadn't been converted and for the mini-campaigns/scenario in it.

Received my copy of the Beyond the Mountains of Madness reprint today. I'm very happy with the quality of the book. The binding looks sturdy, text and images are clear and crisp, the cover's beautiful, the map is printed on a fairly thick paper.

Gonna take a while to read - over 400 pages. But this is going to the top of my Need to Run list. And I really hope Chaosium keeps reprinting classic material. The newer adventures have been more miss than hit for me, but there's 30 years of content that needs preserving.

My copies of Explorers and the Marine Handbook for Hostile were waiting at my door when I was leaving for work. Glad to finally have those in my possession now

Got all three of these delivered today.

Symptoms by Larraz is a horror/thriller gem I watched a poor quality boot of years ago so I'm excited to see in good shape.

The Barbarians I haven't seen but was inspired to order based on our S&S films thread.

Tintorera is an amazing cinematic carwreck I caught on TCM and had to own for posterity's sake.

I got the Savage Worlds Adventure Edition Vehicles Guide. I haven't properly read it yet, so I can't really give it a fair assessment. I will say that I had hoped the section with examples of spaceships would include a bigger number and variety of ships. Guess I'll just have to wait for the new Science Fiction Companion, whenever that comes out.

I'm waiting for the Supers companion, for personal reasons. But this book is on the list.

Made a big POD order from DTRPG. A couple from Kickstarters (Wave Man, Wicked Ones, Worlds Without Number) and a few more just to add in. A real variety there, looking at it.
Wave Man intrigues me, but that may just be because a friend had me watching Shaw Brothers traikets last night.

It's pretty minimal in its treatment, and is good for solo play too, which is a bonus.

Reminds me a lot of bushido in it's tone, with Schools and Stances and Jutsu and Guises and Disciplines. Three classes - Bushi, Ninja, and Scholars. Most rolls are 2d6 for the attack of different colors. One of those d6 determines the stance effect for whatever the player is using to attack, and the other determines the tactical response of your enemy, and any special attacks they use. It's pretty cool.

I forgot to mention, I got Tin Star (SteveD) Relics, a modern-day urban fantasy game where you play angels--the gates to heaven are locked, and no one is hearing the big G guy. I've not got a chance to read it, but I am planning too.

Its been a while since I posted here (and I love looking at this thread to see all the shiny!) so I will do further posts in the near future but I really wanted to share these... I thought I'd get some old D&D books that have a massive nostalgia hit for me done via a print service:

Apologies for the annoying reflections/shadows but the covers are lovely and glossy and really *ping*. The interiors are as per the originals...

... Really happy with the results and can see me doing a few more but Karameikos, Keep on the Borderlands, Rahasia and the Isle of Dread are all books I loved as a kid. So many awesome memories.
