Can someone sell my on cyberpunk as someone who's never been into cyberpunk? I look at Cities Without Number and feel no calling to it despite having SWN, WWN and Godbound. And PDFs of just about everything else.

You know, not really. Like it's a flavor thing; if it's not your thing it's not your thing. I don't feel any calling whatsoever towards superhero games (specially the [metal]-Age ones), so I just don't get them; if Sine Nomine were to put one out (excluding the arguable fantasy superhero-ness of Godbound, which I did back) I probably wouldn't bother getting it.

That's assuming you've experienced the media that talk to Cyberpunk, like Blade Runner/2049, William Gibson (especially his post-Sprawl trilogy stuff, everyone crows about Neuromancer but it's really just a starting point), Bruce Sterling, Walter Jon Williams, Rudy Rucker, George Effinger, etc etc etc. If not, it's just about reading it and contextualizing the spirit of the genre as being just around the corner, worst case scenario of no apocalypse, more advances in science, and a complete lack of human empathy and accountability at the highest levels.

My problem overall is that I never manage to get the players to WANT to be the voices of humanity struggling against the monolith, they always seem to want to just make a ton of money and rise above it, which isn't the point.

Anyway, the summary is that if it's not your thing you shouldn't need to be sold on it, and use the stuff you DO like.

Cyberpunk 2020, Shadowrun, Blade Runner, Ghost in the Shell, Akira, Cowboy Bebop, Bubblegum Crisis, Judge Dredd, Robocop, Total Recall, Aeon Flux, Tron, Battle Angel Alita, The Matrix, Escape from New York, Minority Report, Equilibrium, Altered Carbon, Gattaca, Neuromancer and other Gibson books. Any of that sell you?

High Tech, Low Life. The street finds uses for things. Punks striking against Megacorporate rule. Cops trying to keep order on streets that make Mogadishu look like 5th Avenue. A crew of thieves like in Heat, only they’re all cybered up. Gun Porn, Computer Porn, Cyberware Porn, Bioware Porn, Car Porn, Nano Porn. A gearhead‘s wet dream heaven.

If the genre doesn’t get you, then if you have SWN already, there’s sure to be tons of usable content in CWN, even if you don’t run it specifically.

Hi everyone! Shameless self-promotion, but I'm really excited to announce my next RPG art project: I'll be drawing a poster map for one of my favorite OSR/RPG settings, the new edition of David McGrogan's YOON-SUIN: THE PURPLE LAND!

Screen Shot 2023-01-30 at 8.01.35 AM.jpg
I'll only be drawing this is the Kickstarter meets its stretch goal of 70K£, and the poster won't be sold afterward; it will only be available to backers. But most of all, I really want to draw this map! So please go and back the game so it happens!!

Many thanks!! -- Jason Thompson

I was very happy to see that Stretch Goal announcement. To save you the awkwardness off self-promotion, allow me to post samples of your work from the email I received this morning.

Big fan Jason, just one more reason to back this essential release.

Kevin Crawford's Cities Without Number is now live. Should be good for those who like his stuff and want a simpler Shadowrun alternative.

Edit - There is a WIP version of the game already up for backers, and as usual KC is fine with it being shared with anyone interested. For anyone on the fence or just curious, you can find the WIP folder here:

I'm a consumer whore! For this specific RPG producer!

For those living in the EU, is the DTRPG PoD duty free, or coming from the UK?
Unless something changed recently, Lightning Source (the printer for DTRPG) has an operation in the UK for European orders. From what I've heard in the past it's pretty reasonably priced to get stuff from them if you live in the EU, but if you have any questions about it I'd check with DTRPG directly to see what they say.

Hmm. Must be Zinequest season again.

Ah, interesting. I didn’t know about Mark Finn tabletop stuff outside of the Conan consulting gig for Modiphius. That looks pretty cool, as well as the other stuff he has on thievery.

The problem: being written for 5e, I don’t know how S&S it will be as compared to standard 5e, ie High Fantasy Supers.

I asked him the question, we’ll see what he says.

People, we are LIVE!

Brave dwarves delve deep to find and rebuild their lost home in

"A HOME REFORGED"

A Home Reforged is a setting centered around the struggles of companies of dwarves, trying to reclaim and rebuild their long-lost homes. These dwarves have lost their former kingdoms, after a great revolution against the tyranny of their old kings. Now, they roam the land, focusing on the values of family and unity to stay alive and retain their sense of purpose and belonging. The path is difficult, and many will die, but they keep fighting and pushing forward with the hopes to, one day, being able to witness again the walls of their old capitals and rebuild them.

A Home Reforged is designed in the spirit of David Black’s The Black Hack, but it is very easily adaptable to any old-school RPG system. Every aspect of the game is specifically designed to offer a unique dwarven adventure, while light on the rules and heavy in flavor. The game contains some original rules and themed abilities though, which can be used as is or be easily adapted to any other game.

In A Home Reforged, death is not the end of your game. With the game’s specialized “Heirloom system” when a character dies, another dwarf from their clan takes their place, receiving the old character’s clan heirloom and swearing a grudge to avenge them. The game also contains original rules about both exploration and settlement building.

Inside you will find:

· Five unique classes – Based on classic fantasy archetypes but built upon dwarven principle.

· Original rules – Rules for exploration, settlement-building, clans, and a leveling system based on a character’s mighty deeds.

· Powerful factions – The Dwarves are not the only denizens of the Deep Underground. There are three major and three minor factions of creatures.

· Monstrous Creatures – In addition to the monsters usually found in a dungeon, unique creatures inhabit the tunnels of the Deep Underground.

· Locations – Tables with locations that provide inspiration to make your own version of the Deep Underground.

· A full introductory adventure – Explore the Ruins of Nur Burim, to reclaim an ancient Dwarven forge in the heart of a volcano. The story is full of keyed maps and is a great start for every campaign.

I'm so glad that it is a full adventure and not something I need to craft stuffs for. That's some next-gen customer service right there!
(For the record: I've been snarky on publishers both big and small for their buzzword shenanigans since the nineties)

Who knows? It's one of three Shadowrun-esque games, Vault, Sinless, and Subversion (the first two have launched but the last hasn't)
There was a Shadowrun-inspired game reviewed in a video by RPGPundit years ago, anyone remember which one that was?
