We managed to stop the plans of the Followers of the Mad Gods in last night's Witchcraft session, although it was a pretty close thing (very thankful that we have access to Drama Points). There was some (in-character) tension between my PC and the others as my character was trying to divert the attentions of the Followers toward herself and away from the others, since she is already known to them, and she thought it best to keep the others off the Followers' radar, so to speak. It didn't actually work out that way, but as all of the Followers (of this particular cell, at least) were killed during the big fight, hopefully they weren't able to get any info on the other PCs out to any others of their cult.
Hopefully...

No one went mad or died, only one of us briefly suffered from a phobia of worms and larvae. We managed to avoid or at least kind of stay on good terms with the police, though they ordered us not to leave Lima. We do not trust Luis Mendoza. Next time we leave for the ruins.

Running a Cyberpunk RED game. I really like the system. The Netrunning system is a huge improvement over 2020's pseudo board game.

Let's see, other than super-exhaustion after vaccination, I've been playing in a "special agents who hunt crazy/dangerous psi's" using MSH, alternating weeks with my own MSH superhero game, where supers aren't remembered and as far as anyone knows weren't real, until the time capsule was opened, and someone is still trying to suppress the actions of the characters in figuring everything out. Like what happened to the WWII United Sentinels, and why? Who did it? For what reasons? One of their "allies" turns out to be more of a villain and sent a demon after them.

I'm running Farflung when my health allows, and a D&D5E where the PC's are 12, and I'm trying to get them to 20 to take out the really big bad. (Almost two years of play.) Though player count has fluctuated due to moving online.

I also am still playing a space opera setting a friend cooked up and I enjoy it greatly, no system really, though I want to take it and build it into a system, it's got a bit of a unique feel to it.

Been playing Icons, and a game hack a friend made of well MSH, and it's actually a pretty solid variant. I like sticking with MSH, with a few house rules, or none at all.

Plus playing in a D&D game, where I am a charlatan with real magic and multiple identities (Eldemyr, Myrelde, Grannie Grace, the Blighted Man.) which is fun since they've different personalities. Eldemyr is into chicanery "his" sister is more straightforward, and into looking good, and spending money, but also using her looks for reasons, Grannie Grace is supposed to be a strange terror to people with strict disciplinarian and moral standards, and the Blighted Man is a beggar, who looks like he's had serious health problems for a while, but he's mostly a rumor monger. (Changeling race character and performance plus disguise kit skill.)

Writing on my novel (first book, but a sidequel to the one I've written fully but need to fix things in.) But lack of energy has put my game writing on a slow slow burn. Though I'm excited a bit about doing a D&D BECMI hack.

Twenty, twenty, twenty four hours ago, I want to boil some tree sap.

Put in a kettle, put on a plate, I want to boil some tree sap.

So I do a lot of the social media announces for the company I work for, and you have no idea how many times I want to reference that song when it is the last 24 hours on a sale or event.

So this weeks session of D&D involved a ton of puzzles and riddles which when solved gave us possession of a liches phylactery. At the end of the session we joked that we could now just repeatedly kill the lich and have him resurrect to farm xp until we were powerful enough to kill the BBE of the campaign. I suggested that everytime the lich reforms, we murder him the same way someone dies on Murder, She Wrote. A good session for a good day.

My face to face B/X Carcosa game has been delayed until the 21st. No offense guys but talking about gaming is a poor substitute for face to face gaming.

My plan is gaming every 2-3 weeks after Covid is over. I learned my lesson from Covid and a few scrapes with death: life is too short and random things can strike you down so make time for the things you love.

Hey, I kinda did that:shade:!

OK, it was more like "get the SO to play RPGs (and her bringing other friends)", but still:grin:!

My wife and I started dating when we were 15. I introduced her to tabletop RPGs and honestly she plays in more games than I do. (though this has more to do with my social energy than desire for gaming. She is just way more social than me).

So I started a campaign of Masks: a New Generation (which I love) with my 2 oldest daughters late last year that went by the wayside because I was stressing out about events in the US.

Lately, I've been diving into Sentinels RPG and was interested in playing it. My 2nd oldest daughter loves the Sentinels universe and was interested in playing it, so was easy to talk into playing that one. But I hated to kick off a new campaign without having finished off the last one. I asked my oldest daughter if she'd be interested in restarting the Masks game so I can bring it to a close so we could move on to the new game. She's like "that character wasn't working out for me anyways, so I'm okay moving onto the new game now".

So I guess I'm off the hook for Masks and kicking off a Sentinels RPG game soon!

Yesterday's Basic Fantasy game was essentially a series of non-stop battles, as different factions, including the PCs, sought to acquire the Deck Of Many Things. I had pre-figured the different tactics and pre-rolled attack rolls for what would happen with all the different NPCs if the PCs didn't do anything, to help keep things moving quickly instead of stopping to roll dice and have the players wait while I was doing so.

The teens managed to successfully navigate through the different groups and players, bypassing some, setting some against another, and taking out a few directly. The session ended with them acquiring the Deck; the actual drawing of the cards will start off next session, and I've already warned them that I won't have anything specific lined up for the rest of the session, since there's no telling what direction the cards being drawn may take.

Later that evening our Witchcraft session, while not completely devoid of darker elements, was overall lighter in tone than previous sessions, almost becoming a comedy of errors at one point, as we had to prevent supernatural hijinks from occurring during St. Patrick's Day (our campaign is set in Savannah, GA, where SPD, and the parade that accompanies it during non-plague years, is a big fucking deal).

I have to push back my Carcosa game to April because everyone is in a mad rush to get vaccinated. We haven't played since February. Even though I am elated that everyone is getting vaccinations I'd be lying if I said I wasn't frustrated and annoyed by the delay. On the plus side, this allows me time to set up the factions using An Echo Resounding and latest delivery from Bronze Age Miniatures will have arrived.

Started up a new game online last night. B/X (OSE), running on Foundry. Recruited three players - one I've played with and chatted with regularly over the last year, his friend, a guy I played had a fun campaign with back in 2017 but haven't talked to in a couple years, and one rando. Over the past week we've chatted through character creation and some background info. They are playing:
Creek the Elf
Enguerrand Wilkshall III the Magic-User
Grimgar the Dwarf
Rodger the Cleric of Thyr

And it's off to the borderlands for them, hired by the Royal Cartographer's Guild to "meddle in local politics, secure valuable holdings, claim strategic locations, dispose of competing interests where necessary, and modify boundaries to more favorable conditions wherever possible."

The initial region is a mashup of B2's Keep, B4's Lost City, Stoneheart Valley's Fairhill, Scourge of the Demon Wolf's Kensla (renamed Netherseal here), and Morgansfort's Old Island Fortress. A little further afield are The Many Gates of the Gann and Khazra's Canyon (Red Prophet Rises).

We began play with the party arriving at the Keep, and most of the evening was spent exploring their new base and meeting with the locals. They got a lot of leads here. Wolf trouble in Netherseal. Goblins in the woods near Fairhill. A visiting priest is studying the forgotten gods once worshipped in the region (the Lost City). Gnolls have been stirring up trouble (Gann and Khazra's Canyon). But a miserable vagabond's tale of woe in the Old Fortress ruins is what most caught their attention, and they set off for the area he precisely warned them not to ever go to - after convincing a couple hirelings to join them. On the way they ran into some of the Keep's huntsmen, returning from Netherseal with the savaged remains of their companions. Good luck with that! and onward to the ruins.

They found the ruins, investigated the area to find tracks to two entrances, and decided to camp a short ways away and watch what sort of visitors the ruins have. We ended there, ready to delve into the dungeon next week.

Wednesday afternoon, CJs game. We've seen enough geography and houses to know we are still on this planet, still on the UP, but there are goblins attacking all over the place, some elves fighting the goblins and the goblins have giant wild boars all allies. My Character's AR15 kills goblins quickly and their morale breaks when enough die but he's worried about ammunition and he wants to find something that makes a bigger impression on the big hogs. Bruce's game warden character is still using his bolt-action 30-06, good against the boars but not so much against goblin swarms. The elf we are hanging out with is using a damn bow and arrows, how useless is that? She can heal people, though.

Thursday afternoon, my game. The characters found themselves facing a living flame, a fire elemental bound to defend an area. It doesn't have hit points, exactly. A blow strong enough will put it out but it has to be done all at once. A blow of half that strength will cause it to flicker, which means it can't attack, and then pop back to full strength. They had it flickering most of the time but it managed to burn circus strongman/wrestler Anantha rather badly, and he could not just flicker. Fortunately, Brother Ahmeet whacked it hard enough to put it down. And then they healed Anantha.
They found four things like large armor stands. Three were empty but there was a big hooded cloak on one of them. It was made of the mineral fiber that dwarfs and trolls sometimes make into armor. Brother Ahmeet and Sister Femka had Anantha put it on as he was the largest. At first, it draped all over him but when he put on the hood and the attached mask, he shrunk down to normal human size and looked like a typical dockworker, down to his shoes. This alarmed Femka who said that there must be three trolls loose in the city, looking human.
They took the cloak and reported the whole thing to the Constabulary HQ and then reported it again to the Inquisition. Father Tormentio reprimanded them for not bringing it to him first "now the Beureau of State Security will get it" but didn't make Brother Ahmeet do a penance.

No Witchcraft session last night, but I did run Basic Fantasy for the teens yesterday, which admittedly was just some draws from the Deck Of Many Things, and one combat which followed.

Only two of the six PCs drew cards, but seeing that at least some of the group were going to do so, two of the three NPCs did so as well.

The elven M-U chose two cards, getting the Sun (granting her 50,000 xp and a Cube Of Force) and the Flames (earning her the enmity of a demon lord).

The dwarven fighter chose one draw, getting the Fool (losing 10,000 xp and forced to draw again) and then the Comet (which raises you to the next level, provided to defeat the next monster/threat you encounter by yourself).

Their Drow follower chose two draws, as did the offworld mutant who is also among their number. The Drow got the Euryale (making her now -3 to any Petrification saves) and the Key (granting her a treasure map and also a Sword Of Sharpness, which also happened to be intelligent), while the mutant got the Talons (losing all of his magic items) and the Star (adding two points to his STR score).

So, nothing especially game-wrecking, but I now have a couple more plot hooks for future use.

Preparing for the return trip home, they loaded the dwarf down with some of their magic items and remaining technological weapons, then had him walking in advance of the party so that he could try to solo any monsters encountered and then level up. Which was just as well when the four trolls showed up via random encounter. Four trolls is a pretty tough fight for even a name level fighter to try to defeat by himself, but the use of one of their grenades and the last few charges of an energy pistol helped even the odds considerably, even if it was close enough that he was down to single digit HP by the time he had finished off the last of his opponents.

Pointed out Robin Laws’ player types, and found a quiz for my players to take. I knew the answers somewhat, but it was interesting to see. We are currently working with an incredibly diverse group, with at least one of everything except specialist. While I put as much stock in this as I do any personality test, this one appears somewhat accurate for us. This makes it quite a challenge. It’s gotta have just about every element

I found an amusing thread that had people post theirs, and somewhat unsurprisingly to me, nearly half were storytellers. I think this represents a bit of a bad sampling because people on rpg boards tend to be GMs.

The results of part of the crew and myself

Hey, I need this one, sort of... I'm running my own Thanatari temple adventure... Got a Thanatari priest who just embodies a flying skull. They defeated his shade last session (after it killed a PC - thankfully adventuring in the Big Rubble gave easy access to a Chalana Arroy temple for resurrection...
