Former post in this thread, where I mentioned setting up a new game. Ending it with:

Two of the four players knows each other since before, but otherwise none of us know each other from before. So this can be really interesting, or a complete disaster.
I'm six session of play into the game I mentioned back in March. While there has been some groans when they discovered yet another faction and complexity to the situation (a pre-invasion rebel group might have infiltrated the currently known rebel group), all of the players are still in the playing and seems to look forward to the next session.

The player characters are:
One half Vulcan from Star Trek (doing her best to hide her "elf-like" ears).
One Inquisitor from WH40K, that have shown himself able to dispel/cancel out magic
One elemental magic using warrior from Wheel of Time
One from late 19th century London, with training in some form of magic the other players, but not their characters, have recognized as necromancy.

For some, they have ended up in a more magical world than the one they came from, to others they can only use a fraction of the magic they once could wield.

Thanks to the three individual that was summoned at the same time, they got some simple clothes, some money, and some form of identification tag giving them the status of "friends of the Empire." Sticking out like sore thumbs, they pretty much had people following them around wherever they went in the city.

The temple they turned up at have been referred to as:
* Temple of the Celestial Order by an Empire from the north that occupied the area almost two decades earlier
* Temple of Ba'al by the locals, and the leader of the rebels is referred to as the chosen of Ba'al
* Temple of the ancient ones by a bedouin like people (one of two larger refugee groups from the south, since a large country there turned into a desert and now is overrun with undeads)

The Empire managed to invade while the locals were busy fighting of an orc invasion. Since then, the Empire has been busy fighting rebels and the war against the orcs then kind of inherited. According to the refugees, the land died after an orc army (let into the city by dwarfs) destroyed the temple in their capitol down there. The orc attacks have been focused on the city the characters turned up in, and it is believed they are after the temple there. So far, the Empire's chariots have easily defeated any army out in the fields, but any troops the Empire has sent into the great forests have been slaughtered.

The chosen of Ba'al was believed to hide in the same forest.

As they found out they can't be more than 2 km (about 1.25 miles) away from each other without all of them getting a severe headache, and at least two of them want to get back to their old world, they decided they needed to figure out more about how they were summoned. As the local rebels seemed to be amateurs, the Ba'al priests apparently never managed to summon anyone (and the lady from London thinks that Ba'al means the devil), and the priests from the Empire obviously has been able to summon people, they decided to get the local head honcho of the Empire to trust them.

After contemplating infiltrating the rebels, they changed their mind, and went to track down the three individuals that the priests of the Empire intended to summon. As they had suspected, those three had went on a mission to track down the chosen by Ba'al. Not being expert trackers, their task became a bit easier after they not only followed three people, but an additional fifty Empire soldiers. Which still they managed to muck up, and started to follow the trail of an orc raiding party. Luckily for them, they managed to spot an ambush by some orc scouts and defeat them. The former inquisitor was a bit extra happy by realizing it wasn't the kind of orcs he knew about. A mind-meld later, and they had figured out they had been heading straight for an orc village.

After doing a strategic retreat out of the forest, following the edge quite a bit more, they found two dead soldiers from the Empire. Both bleed to death after being shot by arrows made by a much higher precision than anything else they seen so far in that world. The arrow heads being long and narrow to better punch through armor; and having a triangular cross section, making it harder to stop any bleeding.

A blood trail lead them back to an ambush site where several soldiers of the Empire were found dead, and signs of injured people fleeing in all directions. They followed the quite obvious track of the largest group and the ones pursuing them. A couple of hours later, they came upon a group of soldiers surrounding a clearing with a grove in it, with a creak on the other side. These soldiers were the first they saw wearing mail armor (they learned a bit later it's most likely made by dwarfs). While spread a bit thin, they estimated there being 60-80 soldiers to be able to surround the area. By being able to surprise them, having quite some luck with shooting arrows at them, and with some display of magic; the soldiers thought they were being under attack by a lot larger force than just four, routing them.

The three they had been searching for were among those that had been surrounded. Out of the original fifty Empire soldiers, only seventeen remained. None of the three had anything useful to share about their distance predicament, or how they could be sent back, but perhaps people at their home could. The players decided to help them with their mission, and a mind meld on a wounded prisoner later, they knew the chosen of Ba'al was at a fort a few hours march from where they were. The good news was that the fort seemed to be at a very low readiness, and the three had some clay discs that could give them iron skin and healing which would make them pretty much invulnerable for a while. The bad news was that there were a hundred soldiers at the fort, beside the chosen of Ba'al and the about dozen well equipped soldiers he hadn't sent on the ambush. They decided they had a chance if they could get there before any of the ones fleeing could get there and raise the alarm, and if they could do it while being nighttime.

They did pull it off, with a shock and awe attack, taking out half of the posted guards almost immediately, setting up their seventeen soldiers (lacking the iron skin) covering four of the five barracks for the soldiers, creating a magical stone wall in front of the door of the fifth barrack. The character from WoT, and the leader of the three, rushed toward the sixth building; the commandant's house. Directly inside, they faced two of the chosen of Ba'al's personal troops. The Londoner came in close behind them, but instead of assisting in the fight -- and they had some trouble with them -- she rounded them and checked the doors instead. Behind the first door, there were several men almost ready to don their armor. As the door opened toward her, she slammed the door shut, and jammed it with a chair; managing to hold it long enough for the other two to finish of their opponents, so they could block the door with a quite heave desk that was in the room. Meanwhile, she had opened the other two doors, finding an empty office, and one bedroom with only one person that she ended up in a sword-fight with; the man they were looking for. He managed to hold her off until she got some assistance, by the leader of the three throwing himself over him and started to wrestle. She however ended the wrestling match with a good kick the the chosen of Ba'al's head.

With the chosen of Ba'al captured, they quickly retreated. Had it not been for the iron skin magic, at least two of them had been wounded with at least one of them losing an arm. Now, it had completely mitigated all the damage on the first one, and the arm was just wounded but still usable for the second one.

We ended that session as they had managed to get far enough into the forest to dare set up camp for the night, continuing with some one-on-one for the half vulcan as she mind-melded with the prisoner. Considering what she learned, it will be interesting to see how she will tell it to the others the next time.

Well, that was a long-winded way of saying I have one game going, and it hasn't crashed and burned yet.

You've met La Sombra de la Luna, now meet his fellow técnico, the human H-bomb known as...Atómico!

There should be two more luchadores on their way.

Well, unlike superheroes they don't lead dual lives. If you're Santo or Blue Demon, you're Santo or Blue Demon all day, every day.

Lucha Libre Hero explains the gist of the genre perfectly. No matter how campy, childish or ridiculous it gets, the actors always keep playing it straight. This is why you really need player buy-in to run this properly.

Yeah. I loved the idea of my character teaching class, while in his mask.

Anyway, I'm running a D&D game still (to 20, or bust) lost a player--he's just suddenly vanished. Had a one-shot guy step in, not sure if he'll return. Made an interesting dwarf cleric. Otherwise, I'm moving forward. They reached level six, and right now have snuck into an ancient dragon's lair (to hopefully steal some items to help save the world.) Fighting the dragon is a VERY bad idea, as its hugely overpowered compared to them. Though I've made it REALLY hard to wake him. (Mostly because he's OLD, and needs his rest now.) They fought his great-great-great grandson, and he did some serious damage to them, but there is a HUGE difference in power levels. Everyone has a special mount they were given at fifth level (from a B/X) article but added to 5E. With some twists.

Then normally I run Shadowrun on weekends, but it's been on a brief hold. Hopefully back to it this weekend. All my MSH games have been paused due to illness/life stuff. Other than that, I've got to get my car repaired next week (accident, my fault, no damage to the other vehicle, just mine of course.) But still covered at least mostly. Plus our fridge went out, so that's not been fun.

Bad allergy attack on my eyes this morning, so forgive the typing if it is worse than usual.

Today the RQG session was shorter but really fun nevertheless. The more I played the more the players get into Glorantha, and It's been really great to see how their mindset has slowly changed along the games. Today for exemple one of them cast protection as soon as the combat started and It's the only reason he stayed alived when the Sakkar ripped his chest.

The thread about what roleplaying games we did not played but wished to, also made me reflect. I came to the conclusion that at the moment there are some things I would like to try, but I didn't saw myself reaching out or running any time soon. Anyways, we never know when we will find something that will drive our inner nerd crazy. I guess I'm currently on a hype train, since I grabbed a copy of the Guide to Glorantha. :hehe:

First session of a new chronicle went over well. Probably was a bad idea to have carried two heavy boxes of Heroscape in 90 degree heat but everybody really liked having a nice 3D tile battleground for the combat. Well I now have a couple of weeks to rest before the next session.

third session of Red Hand of doom. To refresh your knowledge
  • minotaur fighter/cleric of Murugan, specialist in the spear and shield
  • changeling paladin of Ganesha
  • elven evoker
  • dragonborn thief/acrobat
the others were not present

last time, they took Vraath Keep with a blizkreig rush and fireballs, but Wyrmlord Koth escaped - to their detriment. See, Koth (and one lone goblin worg rider who ran like the dickens) told the RH that the adventurers were coming and were heavily armed, armored, and skilled. This also prevents them from delaying the RH by one day.

They return to town with loot and a map and notes. Between the paladin (who speaks hobgoblin) and the wizard (who cast know languages) they decipher everything and see that the horde is on their way. They convince the town speaker and the sergeant to fortify some, but they should evacuate the town. They have the town speaker call a town meeting, and he says they have to leave the town, and the town is not happy. Then the paladin gets up there and gives a sermon on Ganesha. spends a luck point and crits. So I pull in the rules for Arthur in Mythic Britain inspiring folks. Turns out a crit is 2x(20+(2xCHA)) which, well, he has a 19 charisma.

He's just created fanatics with 116% passion for Ganesha. They are SUPER DUPER INTO OVERCOMING OBSTACLES AND BEGINNINGS. This is pretty much the best possible outcome for these guys. Now they are fanatics about ready to hit the road to go to Brindol. I gave them a 10% faster travel time for that, which gets them there in like 4-5 days. They will get some other stuff, but the player is super happy. this is something he's wanted.

The other folks put in their time as well - the fighter/cleric gives advice on strategy and fortifications, and inspires some folks to fight, but not so hard that they die, because it's a big ass horde. delay is good. the thief acrobat teaches folks how to make simple traps and deadfalls to help delay. the wizard consults with the town wizard on town defense, and he figures out some good tactics with wall of fog. Inspired a bit, he stays up the night and learns Dig, which will help too. They got some time before the horde shows (8 days, when the party leaves), so they should put in some serious delay (I ranked it as a day.. it's a skeleton crew)

they leave town after all this and happen on an old forest giant, diseased and waiting to die, in the forest. They take some pity (:shockedpikachu:smile: and the wizard, who was going to be a social character, unlike literally every other character he plays (this is the guy who infamously said "blah blah blah skip the flavor text" and also said "yea yea yea, next next next") makes some amazing rolls on influence (I am Raleel's shocked face at his 70+ influence). They also give him a +1 big ass gauntlet that is a relic of the original attack on Vraath keep as a token of good will. This helps, and he's going to recruit some giants to help. This delays the horde 2 days - a good help, and i might offer up an option for them to help more.

They move on to skull bridge, and I have a giant foam diorama for the battle. they see half a dozen or so hobgoblins and a dragon guarding the bridge. they know they need to take it out, and they have a horn of blasting. We ended after the first round of combat with the paladin charging in with the invisible thief on the back of the horse, jumping off, and blowing the horn.

As I expected, Lucha Libre Hero has been pushed back to July 13th. That's okay, though, as it gives me more time to prepare and refamiliarize myself with Hero System. I'll also probably have watched all three Campeones Justicieros movies by then.

Just came back from another session of RQG.
The game really grow on me, and the more I visit Glorantha the more I like it. It's been a while since I had this awe about something.
I don't think even the Old World got me so hook as Glorantha did. And believe me, I like the Old World a lot.
The system is really good too, six sessions and the only problem I had with it so far is when one player helps another on a skill test. Still haven't found an answer for that on the book. But will search a little bit more before saying anything.

Stopped at a used bookstore over the weekend and bought a Battletech game, Battlespace, got it for $12:smile:. This is the first time I've ever gotten a Battletech game. It looks like it has all the pieces too. It looks pretty cool I think I'll add it to the list of games I need to play.

I tend to have the helping player make a roll, and give the one performing the main action a 20% bonus (or lessening the degree of difficulty) if he succeeds. On a special or critical success, that becomes 40% bonus or two degrees of difficulty. And maybe, on a roll of 01, I'd allow 60% or three degrees of difficulty less!
The drawback is that the reverse applies if you fail your helping roll:evil:!
That said, I'm not sure whether this is even how they do it in d100 systems today. I might have adopted it from Cepheus/Mongoose Traveller1 without paying it much mind:devil:.

Mythras has it that the assissting player makes a roll and if they succeed they add 20% of their skill (rounding up) to the player they are helping. However AsenRG AsenRG 's solution is more in line with the simpler form of BRP in RQG.

I simplify the complex until I make it easy:grin:!

Got back from my holiday in Russia on Tuesday and have been too tired to look at my PC. Finally managed to log on today and go through my RPG Sites. Probably going to take all day.

Tomorrow, it's the Cricket World Cup and Wimbledon final, so a full day of watching sport.

RuneQuest game on Monday, if I can remember what happened last time.

I had to cancel the long-planned Lucha Libre Hero game because I've had to drive my wife to urgent care and have no idea when we'll be done.

Hope it's nothing serious!

Thanks all. (Un?)fortunately the symptoms subsided and the doctor couldn't figure out what was wrong so she's going to have a follow-up during the week unless it happens again in the meantime: sudden blurry vision with something like afterimage squiggles, could be neurological so they were checking for stroke () symptoms. Just got home a few minutes ago. We were lucky the wait wasn't that long.

It's always hard not getting an answer on what is going with a health issue. Sorry to hear your weekend took such a rough turn.

Trying to verify whether we'll be able to play on July 6th or will have to push it back to the 13th...
I ate at my favourite Mexican takeaway today. They have a couple paintings of wrester masks on the wall, and I was interested to note that after watching several luchador movies recently I was able to identify them as Blue Demon and Revenging Shadow.
