I am taking on the monumental task of cataloging my entire RPG collection based on system, scenario and book. This is going to take a while!
I recommend using a program to do the grunt work for you:thumbsup:.

One thing I plan to do if I can figure it out is to pipe the results (filtered such that only the title is selected) into an Excel file. That will hopefully get most of the digital stuff but the print stuff will be harder

I suggest starting with a barcode scanner book library software.

Tomorrow with the 2nd Alien RPG session, the survey crew of the Halifax plans to take orbital lander down to investigate a 8 mile oval of what appears to be green vegetation on a planet that only has purplish fungal forest and primitive moss.

"Probably nothing dangerous other than the fungal spores, so everyone grab a respirator."

Found the Weyland-Yutani rep.
They guy playing the company agent (we randomly rolled up his title as "Relational Functionality Manager") is the sweetest guy in RL. I predict that if he gets a cryptic message from Weyland-Yutani superiors he'll bring it to the party, "Guys, this can't be right. It says here they want me to infect one of you. Seems a bit odd. Am I reading this correctly??"

Yeah you think he's just the nicest guy there is, but once he gets the evil experiment requests he's going to get totally into the role and then you'll see his true colors!

I had a similar experience running one of the published scenarios with pregen characters. The nice guy of our group was playing the “secret android” spying for another company, and there comes a point where he’d reveal himself and cause even more issues.

The player just never pulled the trigger. He didn’t know how to deal with the PVP angle (despite me telling him it was okay and we have a backup or two that he can switch to if needed).

So I just stripped the “secret android” thing and let him play his guy going forward as if that had never been the case.

Very similar. If I want some corporate treachery, I'll have to convert one of the NPC crew members into the secret plant.

Speaking of androids, the ship's doctor did do a run down of existing crew members and new scientist specialists to make sure they were all human. In the game, it would just be the doctor checking everyone's health before the mission, but player knowledge was on the look out for potential android treachery.

My Zweihander campaign of more than 2 years ended tonight with the characters all scattered to the wind. The Hedgewise has gone south and joined the Imperial Colleges to become an Imperil Wizard, the very people they have been fighting against. The Vigilante got blinded by a demon and got left behind in the Temple of Mercy. The Coachman has become a Badlander, and the Gamekeeper has headed to the frozen North were the campaign began. The city they lived in is under assault and burning, the walls breached by the Rod of Thunderous Upheaval, the very magic item they didn't want to risk searching for on the very first adventure, instead selling its location to a band of dwarven mercenaries.

It didn't turn out like everyone expected, but it was a Grim & Perilous ending!

No. While we were sure the campaign was getting close to an end, we didnt expect it to end tonight or the way it did. So maybe Dragon Age and Forbidden Lands character builds next session.... Much reading to do

Didn't really have anything planned for yesterday's Basic Fantasy game. Well, there is something that I'd like to run for them now that they're setting up their own power bases in the area, the next time they decide to drop things back in my lap, but it's not quite ready for prime time. So I went with the option that may well wreck the campaign and/or send it off into a new direction. Their blind seer ally had sudden, painful visions of magical cards that can bring great weal or woe to those who draw from them, and a vague sense of where these cards might be. As they made preparations to search for the cards, they began to discover that others were also conducting a similar search. That said, they aren't aware yet just how many factions and players wish to get their hands on the Deck Of Many Things...

Later that evening, in the Witchcraft game, things got personal for my character as some of her old enemies, servants of the Mad Gods, made their presence known. While they were nasty enough that the other PCs took an instant and proper disliking to them, the enmity between myself and these particular cultists is especially strong (i.e. I have them as an Enemy). We managed to stop some of their plans, but as it turns out that's just the tip of the non-Euclidian iceberg, which we should hopefully be able to follow up on next week.

My group has had great fun with the Deck of Many Things. One session there was some down time, so my character decided that the best way to kill it was to draw from a deck that he had recently acquired. In the span of about 2 minutes, my character got a castle and a chance to alter one past event, while another PC lost all of his magical items and was effectively left standing naked in a crowded town square. Eventually I used the past change wish and unintentionally blipped my character out of the current session.
Later on the use of the reality altering wish came back to bite me in the behind, as a conclave of dragons effectivly forced me to be their servant because my wish almost destroyed reality.

I haven't used any but there are phone apps that act as barcode scanners. Some are designed for books to pull in the info. I really should check it out once I get a new phone. Put all my fiction in as well so I remember what I own when I'm at a used book store.

I have this app on my phone. It is pretty easy to use.

One of the members in my gaming group uses Libib, which can be used not only for books but also CDs and DVDs. The free version allows you to catalog up to 5000 items. She seems pretty happy with it.

We use this to keep track of our kids books because we buy a metric butt-ton of them at thrift stores and we can never remember what all we have. It's pretty good

For my next Savage Worlds session, I'm going to drop in the one-sheet Ghosts in the Machine from The Last Parsec. Well, I'll start there anyway. It would be entirely in keeping with past behavior for my players to make several hard left turns that will require me to come up with something entirely else on the fly.

That's what makes being a GM fun.

As someone that has played it once, and run it two and half times, you have a lot of fun ahead of you. It's one of the classic campaigns that really lives up to its reputation.

HEPCATS Episode 31, Part 2:

As the team arrives in orbit around X1, they see a ship with “Fred’s ship” sloppily spray-painted on the stern. They think the name is a cheap ploy to trick them into not believing it's Frank’s ship. They don’t buy it. Zera thinks “Fred” is an acronym for “Ferdinand Reginald Edward D’Artagnan.”

The team uses the highly experimental Georgia Ghost Ripper that has been converted into a Ghost Amplifier on Franceska, who becomes 38x bigger and goes after Fred’s ship. Although she can become tangible with concentration, she’s unable to grab Fred’s ship, because it turns out to be a hologram! Frank’s actual ship appears behind GREG, and trains weapons on GREG.

GREG is technically capable of flying himself, but he’s “not very good at it,” so Baron is piloting. Baron deftly flips ship so that GREG is head-on to Frank’s ship, and the battle begins!

Frank attempts to tear a hole in the hull of GREG by using a tractor beam. Zera wants to throw GREG’s guns at Frank’s ship, but GREG convinces her that throwing guns is not the best use of them, so instead she opens the hatch and shoots her rainbow energy, incapacitating the tractor beam.

Baron, being a pacifist, won’t fire the guns, so he yields control of them to his harpoonist servant, Kit Kivenak. She gets overly excited about the opportunity, though, and completely misses Frank’s ship.

Zera, who is feeling unusually persuasive, works on convincing Frank that he should just give his ship to the team.

Meanwhile N0-5R thrusts himself across to Frank’s ship, cuts a hole in the hull with his new laser eyes, and pushes his way inside. N0-5R finds the bridge and intimidates Frank by making threatening motions with the bashing stick while saying intimidating things.

DJ-Q2 comes to GREG’s bridge to see what’s going on, and offers to provide a soundtrack, since he has “sick beats for every situation.”

To be continued...

HEPCATS Episode 31, Part 3:

Between N0-5R’s intimidation and Zera’s persuasion, Frank is ready to give up the ship, but warns them that “my cyborg bodyguard Cyber-FRED is half-crazed and won’t go along with this plan.”

On cue, Cyber-FRED arrives. Cyber-FRED is split right down the middle between human half and robot half. Not sure what that means for his genital situation…

N0-5R turns his head sideways and simultaneously shoots Frank with his left eye and Cyber-FRED with his right eye.

Princess Bluela’s contribution to the battle is to consistently pop in with double entendres. Zera said something about “finding the hole” in the hull of Frank’s ship, and Princess Bluela says, “you don’t have any trouble finding the hole.”

Zera: “Thanks!”

Zera does, indeed, find the hole, and makes her way to the bridge.

Frank says “You didn’t have to shoot me! I was telling the truth!” Cyber-FRED is, indeed, half-crazed and attacks the team.

Baron also joins the group on Frank’s ship and attempts to nonviolently contribute to the battle while N0-5R bashes Cyber-FRED with his bashing stick and Zera stabs Cyber-FRED and lights him on fire. Frank’s ship’s fire suppression comes on, reducing the fire to a smolder, but Cyber-FRED is thoroughly incapacitated, although not quite dead.

Zera asks Frank why he keeps trying to ghostnap Franceska. At first Frank reiterates that he needs her to power his engines, but then admits he also has a crush on her. Zera asks, “Have you tried not kidnapping her?” Baron interjects that it’s unlikely Franceska would want to go out with Frank, given his repeated attempts to ghostnap her. No one asks Franceska what she thinks… Zera mockingly calls Baron “Dad,” which begets a lively discussion of whether or not Baron could actually be Zera’s dad.

Frank reiterates his agreement to give up his ship, so the team drops him and the smoldering remains of Cyber-FRED on the surface of Planet X1. So now Team Zero has two capital ships! Only one pilot, though… In fact, the ships nearly collided after Baron left GREG, since no one was piloting.

To be continued…

The thought that occurs to me as I am currently 30 minutes away from running the Savage Worlds adventure Ghosts in the Machine, which (spoiler), involves saving a mining station from a malicious robot presence:

.... Shit, they're just gonna nuke it from orbit, aren't they?? Never should have let them capture that planetary bombardment ship.

Not sleeping, but very tired. I got 2nd covid shot today. had insomnia all last night. Partially because one of my meds ran out Friday, they said they'd refill it by Monday, but nope, had to get the doctors/caseworker involved Tuesday. Pharmacy ap said they filled it yesterday, but I got there today, and nope it wasn't ready. Had to wait half an hour to get it filled (and this pharmacy is usually so much better than this--I think they're overwhelmed due to Covid.)

I hope you get some rest tonight, Silverlion Silverlion.

Try having some voice going in the background. I've used Scott Manley's Interstellar series on Youtube as it's about 100 episodes long and just plays one after the other. Audio books can be good for this as well, depending on who is doing the reading.

I find playing the sound of ocean waves on my echo dot helps me go to sleep faster.

So I won't be running Basic Fantasy today, as a couple of the teens had to cancel at the last moment. Under other circumstances I might try to run a one-shot with a different system for the remaining players, but while I'm better than I was yesterday, I'm still not at 100% either physically or mentally, so I'm just going to rest and take it easy this afternoon so I can hopefully be up for playing in tonight's Witchcraft game.

Game via Discord last night, because it was the final night of a seven-day lockdown. Not one of our better efforts, it took nearly an hour to get organised. But the game was fun. There was a ten minute discussion of whether my character would/wouldn't take damage by teleporting from a stationary position into a moving vehicle, which the GM nixed by pointing out I had a perk that specifically protected me from that kind of thing. I love that we can be this goofy.

If they killed him/it, it no longer matters. Hopefully:thumbsup:.
If they didn't, he's now as hard as steel there. Constantly:devil:.
And yes, I'm sure your party would find a way to (ab)use that*, too, because they seem like some other parties I've run games for:grin:!

*Hopefully just by dirty jokes:shade:.

well friday we played valheim instead of table top gaming, and probably will be in this state (video games, loose fridays) until at least May. This, of course, is making me want to do a viking game, but I'm going to try and sit on my hands for a while and take a break. Then a longer discussion with the group.

It also has me sad that Mogoose has not updated vikings of legend in 8 fricking years. it's missing a page (I have rq2 vikings so I know what's on it) in the pdf but no fix. Also crappy bookmarks. Sad too, because it's all OGL and I'd just assume use that, but Mythrasized a bit.

I played Valheim for the first time the other night with Brock Savage Brock Savage and his wife. After a trip through the woods to their camp, they set me up with a bow, a spear and some bronze armor. I spent some time practicing my bow on the evil dwarves skulking around at the edge of the woods. We then set sail in a longship seeking adventure. A storm started up immediately. As if the rolling waves and rain weren’t enough a sea serpent attacked the ship. I stood up to shoot it with my bow, lost my footing fell overboard, and promptly drowned.

It was more fun than it sounds.

yep, it's been pretty fun. we just made a longship this morning, and i saw Odin this afternoon. After the TPK last night (and recovery, we're alright) I think I was having a solid time. Overall I'm pretty happy with the historical notes they are making - the longship-shaped burial stones, certain linguistic notes, the runestones, etc. They even include an atgeir, which most people don't even know about.

We managed to stop the plans of the Followers of the Mad Gods in last night's Witchcraft session, although it was a pretty close thing (very thankful that we have access to Drama Points). There was some (in-character) tension between my PC and the others as my character was trying to divert the attentions of the Followers toward herself and away from the others, since she is already known to them, and she thought it best to keep the others off the Followers' radar, so to speak. It didn't actually work out that way, but as all of the Followers (of this particular cell, at least) were killed during the big fight, hopefully they weren't able to get any info on the other PCs out to any others of their cult.
