Violent Night is fun. Really fun.
I think my favorite moments are Santa's muttered monologues.
It's just so inspired overall. Sends up of so many action movie tropes.

I suppose it's a coincidence that I had a dream last night about Leguizamo breaking into the White House on a zip line and endearing himself to a Trump who was about to alert security--by quoting Trumpisms at him. Thankfully I woke up before anything else could happen.

Haven't hit the end of the movie yet. Will update if my opinion changes.

Yeah, saw it on Christmas Eve last year, and had a blast- took my mind off my solitary Christmas. The kid was actually a good part of the movie too- made it seem really like Home Alone if they'd shown the real results of the traps.

I'm laughing so hard at the anime Konosuba in between typing this post.
Where BOFURI is a wholesome sort of absurd entertainment with a feel-good friends vibe, this is something else entirely.

Konosuba is utterly and ridiculously wrong. And even though I can predict 80+% of the comedy, execution is so spot-on. It's not a constant humor... they pick their moments. The main part of the show is almost bland in comparison.

But that makes the comedy hit harder.

Mature audiences only. Definitely recommended.

I finished Season 1 of Narcos, and enjoyed ut. On Season 2 now. Took a break in the middle of season 1 to watch 2 episodes of FBI.

Last Thursday, my friends and I watched a few horror flicks. Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey, which is as bad you would expect. It's getting a sequel though, as it made 6 million on a 100K budget. But yeah, just terrible. I could have written a better movie, and I'm not a script writer. Then we watched Trepidity, which was a 40 minute film that had been funded on Indiegogo. Ok, but nothing special. We then watched The Pope's Exorcist. Again, not bad, but too much in the Special Effects department.

I actually like Better Call Saul more than BB. BB is great but Saul feels more grounded with less flights of toughguy fancy.
I actually feel it is the other way around. Mike has transformed from the competent trouble shooter of Breaking Bad to basically Batman in Better Call Saul.

Finished watching Blood, a Korean film about a vampire doctor. It got better as it went along.

Not sure what to watch next, although I have added a few series to My Netflix, so I watched Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them but I didn't enjoy it nearly as much as I enjoyed the Harry Potter films, it is definitely one for kids.

Just finished Three Thousand Years of Longing.

Fantastic. Right up there with The Fountain.

I always wonder why there aren't more movies like this. But maybe it's worth it to have just the ones we do.

Three Thousand Years of Longing was great but wasn't a great return at the box office. That's why we don't get more of them.

Started watching FUBAR on Netflix. Basic premise is Arnold Schwarzenegger CIA agent getting ready to retire when he gets pulled back in to save an in danger CIA agent who turns out to be his daughter. They then have to work together and resolve their issues.

Watched the thriller show Rabbit/Hole starring Kiefer Sutherland, whose acting I generally enjoy. The show is very silly, but silly in a way that I mostly find quite entertaining.
I thought the twist of Lance Henriksen being The Man Behind the Man was good, but I thought the final twist of someone else being The Man Behind the Man Behind the Man was dumb. I get that they needed a way to leave it open for another season, while also mostly wrapping up the story, but that part didn't land for me.
Still, I found the show entertaining and do not regret the time I spent watching it. I told my buddy a little about it. He and his wife then watched it and they both also found it enjoyable.

I was just was starting this actually.

Just finished The Bad Batch. The ending of this season reminds me of TESB.

Tech can't really be dead, can he?

I finished 'Russian Doll'. The first season was like some weird Groundhog Day, the second season turned into 12 Monkeys on acid. I liked it even though I hate abrasive characters like the protagonist.

I'm gonna force myself to finish FUBAR, only 2 episodes left, to see where it's going, but I doubt if there's a second season that I will watch it.

And I started GLOW. 80's nostalgia with the sweatbands, the hair, the running shorts and the aerobic leotards. And nasty women. It almost feels like 80's porn but with more clothing and worse acting. We're still in the recruiting & training phase. I'm hoping there will be some real tournaments soon.

And tonight I'm watching either Inglorious Basterds, to get that off my bucket list, or Fall (about the two women atop the radio tower).

Watched the 2011 action-suspence movie Colombiana with Zoe Saldana. Found it to be pretty good. It was one hour and forty-five minutes long, which I felt was just about the right running time for it. I really appreciated how most scenes got right to the point. I could easily see how a director could have stretched it out to 3+ hours, and I'm glad Olivier Megaton did not do that.

Watched Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald and found it to be a lot darker than Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, it was an enjoyable romp.

Finished watching Alma, a Spanish series about teens recovering from a coach crash, with a supernatural twist, I really enjoyed it.

Spent half an hour yesterday adding shows to my List on Netflix, so I should be able to watch new stuff fairly easily.

I'm currently 2/3 of the way through Season 7 of Strike Back. I kept putting off watching this and Season 8, but I'm glad I jumped back in. I had no idea Jamie Bamber joined the cast in S7. Still love this show after all this time. Way more action oriented than the original 2 seasons the BBC did, but that's Cinemax for you

I never knew this was on for so long. I remember Philip Winchester from The Player with Wesley Snipes (which I don't think got enough of a chance), and thought that Strike Back had gone off when that came on.

Watched The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf, it was OK but dragged a bit and was dull in places.

Currently watching Good Morning Verônica, a Brazilian cop series, I have only watched episode 1 but it is pretty good so far.

The run with Winchester and Sullivan Stapleton ended after 4 seasons. A few years later, they brought it back with a new cast, and that version ran 3 more seasons. What's amusing is Daniel MacPherson plays the American member of the team, and like Sullivan Stapleton, is Australian. He was also a long time cast member of City Homicide, a show I used to watch years ago (along with a couple of other interesting Aussie shows, like Sea Patrol). So when I saw him on Strike Back, I thought that was kind of cool.

I took a break from that to catch up on Law & Order, and am now watching the Peacock "original", Vigil. It's set in both Scotland and on board a UK nuclear sub. A possible murder took place on the sub, so a DI is sent to it to investigate, while her colleagues investigate other aspects of the case on their end. It's only 6 episodes, and I'm halfway through it. Enjoying it so far. They have a few British "original" series, one which stars David Schwimmer and is supposed to be a comedy called Intelligence (which was the name of a well done but short lived Canadian tv series)

So this popped up on my YT feed today while I was doing research on Siberian rodents for my upcoming rpg zine. Worth the diversion, but the end was anticlimactic.

I went ahead and finished the last two episodes for SWAT and FBI: International yesterday. Today I've started Fubar. It's a bit cheesy, but given how serious all the other show I've been watching have been, I don't mind it being low brow

I just finished SWAT today. I also finished the Flash- which deserved better.

Hulu

Currently 44 episodes into Black Clover. I think my favorite character so far is haHA (Seikke).

I picked up The Old Man about a month back, but paused after 3 episodes. It's a really nicely done show, but the plotting felt too convenient/contrived. Also, it makes me feel like I'm watching a watered down John Wick 4. Age is getting to these guys and they're trying to make it "realistic" without feeding them a steady dose of PCP. I'll finish it because it's decent, but it won't be a binge.

It's the usual over-the-top say-it-to-cast-it aspirational epic fantasy anime. Pretty much another My Hero Academia or One Piece, although I had to give up on One Piece since half of every episode pretty much became a clip show. I'm not up-to-date on My Hero Academia either. Oh well.

The TV Series?
Three Thousand Years of Longing was great but wasn't a great return at the box office. That's why we don't get more of them.
Shame, I enjoyed it a great deal. Not what I was expecting but very interesting. But I appreciate a lot of what Tilda does.

I was retro-watching Fringe, which a friend recommended, but I finally gave up on it.
Now I'm watching Yellowjackets and so far (episode 5) I'm loving it... but a lot of that might be due to what I imagine is going on, vs. what ever reveals are coming.

Fringe takes like 10 episodes of season one to "catch on". It develops slowly, but then hit like sledge hammer once it all clicks. After it begins to click, you will then realize all the things that foreshadowed it all in the first ten episodes. It is a great piece of TV. It is just something that has to be seen in its entirety to make sense of the art.

I got to the end of season three. So I think if it was going to 'click' for me it would have. It has its moments, but it consistently disappointed me by taking the more anodyne path. I kept wondering what it would have been like if it had been made by the likes of David Cronenberg, David Lynch... or, heck, John Waters.
